I.M.O. the best series I ever have seen, at least the first three. After that it wasn't that special. I have the first 3 series on DVD and watch them every now and then and keep enjoying them, although the last 2 episodes I can only watch with some "Dutch courage" in the form of a good dose of Irish whiskey. In 2006 I visited Avoca during my holiday in Ireland, one of many holidays I spent in Ireland. It didn't seems to changed very much, contrary of other parts of Ireland, compared to 1974, when I first visited Ireland.

This is funny. I love the crossover with Ballykissangel. It's a good show also and I remember enjoying these two and their relationship in the show.

I wish I could watch it again.

Birdy Sweeney (Eammon Byrne) made me laugh a lot with the way he always nods his head with almost every word he says. Byrne would have been my surname, if my nan hadn't married an Irish fella. The Frenchy in the balloon cracked me up too. As did the response Liam gave to his behaviour. Such a good series. Louis also is very comical. Kate McEnery (Emma Dillon) looks ravishing with long blond hair ....on her head.. Some of Tony Doyle's (Brian Quigley) remarks were hilarious too. Only ones I could not stand were Father Mac and Niamh Quigley.

Bally always got on my nerves. Dodgy theology aside, it tried too hard to prove that "things really do happen" in that "breath of fresh air" called the country. For those of us from rural places, this is awfully patronising. Colourful characters in a parochial setting is nothing new, and I really enjoy it where it's played for laughs, such as in Father Ted or the Vicar of Dibley. But when it starts having pretensions to reality, it too frequently misses the mark.

The first time I heard the song My Funny Valentine was in the VoD, about Alice; the second time was in The Simpsons, about Lisa. I think life would be perfect for a girl with Alice's beauty & Lisa's brains; the reverse (Lisa's beauty + Alice's brains) would be disastrous!
