    I bought an older one off Craigslist. I heard that you should use distilled water. Have you ever heard that. Maybe that depends on your water source? Anyway, I just found your channel and the first video I seen was your shop setup. That sold me right there. I subscribed. Peace

    I don't know how many hours that took but you are out of your mind doing all that work time and material for under $4,000.00. Here is SC along the coast people are charging $8,000 to $10,000 to do a Pontoon boat. You would be better off working at a gas station then doing all that upholstery work for next to noting.

    Hi, Good video thank you for sharing. A couple of questions: What size seam do you use for the plastic strip and If cutting the inside curve or outside curve smaller, will the match marks still line up or do you have to stretch one one piece or the other. Cheers

      All of my seams are 1/2 inch. Yes you have to stretch them, when you short pieces the alignment marks will be off by a bit.

    Great videos Sir! OK I need some clarification. My wife seems to understand how you glued the foam pieces in but I don't get how the heck you got it to glue to an uneven surface. Isn't there a cavity behind there now? Why don't you cut out a square/cube and glue a square/cube piece back in? Thanks for the help, we just found your channel this morning and are loving it. We just started our marine canvas and upholstery business. We have the sewing skills, just new to the upholstery game. Thanks again!

    • @fabricmetalandwood3485
      @fabricmetalandwood3485 Před 3 měsíci

      In theory there should not be any cavity behind the repair. It is not he easiest to cut a square out of the middle of the foam. When I am placing the repair piece, I open the hole up as much as possible to stuff the patch in. Hope this helps.

    • @fabricmetalandwood3485

      Some covers are available, sometimes you have to buy the whole seat. Just depends on the boat. Marine and auto kind of similar. I dont see any boats with real leather and Usually dont staple auto seats.

    Hi there! Was looking for a video on patterning… so thank you! When you steam your foam and fit it back onto the board, do you make sure there is approximately 1/2” overhang? If there is not, do you add foam? What happens if you pattern / template your foam and it has shrunk too much so that the vinyl will be too tight for the board? Do you ever measure the board to make sure you are getting accurate measurements? Hope this all makes sense

    • @fabricmetalandwood3485
      @fabricmetalandwood3485 Před 5 měsíci

      I dont check the over hang when reusing the foam. I have never had it where the foam was too small for the backboard with out any deterioration, then I repair the foam, then yes I give it a little extra. I measure the board after making a template the foam, it always comes out. Even when making new cushions, I measure the form from the backboard, then the cover from the foam.

    • @fabricmetalandwood3485

I have been using those for 5 years and only thrown one away, that was a second and I did not use it for about a year. But as far as using it, It gets used at least once every two weeks.

    A piping foot 'can' be used as a general purpose foot, but still it is not the same. Now sew some piping and see if there is any difference.

  • @einars899
    @einars899 Před 5 měsíci

    Yo are using a piping foot to run a normal seam! You should not be surprised it will not work right. And admittedly I'm not used to imperial measurements, but I think the "bad foot" is further from a standard foot. It will not hold down the fabric evenly.
