The Kestral does the spin drift automatically so I don’t really have to worry about it. I was favouring left of plate and with the 6mm and I hit where I was aiming. I remember shooting my .308 win. At 550 yards years ago in a no wind condition and I was consistently hitting 5” right of hold. I figured that was spin drift. But .7 at the gun is pretty minimal and the 308 was very limited much beyond 800 with the bullets we had back in the 80's. I was stationed in Korea with the ROK Marines, and about 3 months before I left, we were starting to experiment with the Army's long range competition round, the 300 Win Mag. with the 220gr Sierra Match King service ammo So much more impressive LOL I have several long range videos, but nothing on CZcams. That hit with the 338 wasn't actually within 1 moa. 1 MOA would be represented by a 5inch circle. On the diagonal, your target is close to 7". Since you hit on the corner, you would have missed Eric's target. Still a good shot though. My impression was that you missed just outside of the same place with the 280 and not by much. All in all, pretty good shooting. I have always figured, if my first sighter was a "V", I would do OK. If it was a four, I would be in for a long day. Anyway, this is a tough challenge, and you did pretty well. The shot with the 6 was good, no matter what kind of rifle. On another subject, what lapel mike are you using? The one MOA challenge is tough but I believe appropriate. If you and your rig can't cold bore smack a MOA target from a nice rested, comfy prone position at your range then under less than ideal field conditions not much room for error, physical variables and tricky unseen winds.

    • @bcextremeoutdoorsman
      @bcextremeoutdoorsman Před 8 dny

      @@couespursuit7350 Hi, one MOA is a very small target at distance. Vitals on a Stone Sheep or deer are 18” as long as you get the windage correct you have a lethal hit. But the shooter has to make sure they are confident and skilled enough to make the shot. By practicing ( positional ) and knowing your rifle and ballistics etc. It’s up to the shooter to know what there ethical hunting distances are. This is just a fun challenge, as I said above the vitals in a deer sized animal is quite a bit bigger than a MOA. But aim small miss small. Hi, and thank you, that was one of the points of the video was to have it videoed as it happened. I do a lot of sheep hunting and the from top of the back to bottom of the chest is about 18”, a deer is about the same. Any where in the front shoulder in that 18” is lethal. But I don’t want to use all that vertical. Realistically anything in a 10” circle is ethical, in my opinion. So basically that’s 2 MOA @500 yards. Of course tighter is better, again realistically a lot of guys out there hunting struggle with shooting 1 MOA at 100 yards. I have seen it lots, due to them not shooting enough. Now for the wind question, that’s a tough one. Lots of factors arise from this question. If the wind is very high and variable I won’t shoot and I’ll try and get closer. If it’s steady and under 10-12 mph at 500 yards I’ll DOPE the wind with my kestrel and if I feel comfortable I’ll take the shot. Thanks for watching and the great comment, I hope I answered it all got you. Take care, be safe and shoot straight.

    Good shooting, the square target is more than 5” if you measure diagonal so not a hit with the lapua technically, but i couldnt do it either so haha

      Yes, about 1.4 moa. The square target would still be in a kill zone of a very small deer. Humbling target size is correct. The Cortina target is truly threading the needle. Many kill shots would be failures on his deer target.

    Do all game animals stop and stand still at exactly 500 yds. What do you do if they stop at say 455yds

      @@EFD620G Hi, watch my hunting videos and you’ll see what I do 😊. If an animal stops at 455 yards, I’ll range it with my binos get the DOPE from the binos, then I’ll dial the DOPE on the scope and then engage the target. Or once I get the distance I’ll look at my DOPE card that I have somewhere on the rifle for the area I’m hunting. Then the same, I’ll dial and engage. 500 yards was just what the challenge was at, I didn’t design it. Thanks for watching and the comment, take care.

I got a late invite to help on a bighorn hunt here and definitely not in shape for it. Is your shoot at the Cameo range outside of Grand Junction? I just about drive myself crazy over cold bore, clean or dirty, how clean? Like bore snake clean or copper stripping clean. I obviously want to take really good care of my guns and 400 yards is probably the farthest i will even get to shoot. I have ar10 308, howa 6.5 creedmoor, weatherby 2506, Winchester model 70 7mag. They all shoot around 1moa on average or a little better. Give me some solid advice please.

    • @bcextremeoutdoorsman
      @bcextremeoutdoorsman Před 9 dny

      @@jcows12 Hi, when I clean my rifles it down to metal so completely cleaned, I use a bore scope to make sure I have the carbon ring removed, as well. If you have good barrels it shouldn’t take much to clean. Then I’ll shoot it to condition the barrel until it is stabilized and shooting consistent and velocities are consistent as well. It doesn’t take many shots. Then it’s ready hunt with. Depends on what rifle, my 338 I’ll clean more often as you’re burning more powder and it will fowl quicker, so I clean it around 30 rounds. The 280ai around every 60 rounds. Again if they get wet at all, I’ll run a patch down the barrel, then when I get a chance I’ll take another shot. I never use a bore snake unless it’s an emergency and I have never had to use one, but I have one in my backpack just in case. I hope this helps and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Any other questions just ask, take care.
