W4F - Fly Fishing "Louisiana Bull Redfish"
Back in Louisiana, fly fishing for giant Bull Redfish! This is my 3rd time back in Louisiana hunting these beasts. No doubt it is the best place in the world to sight-cast to giant Redfish on the flats.
I had the pleasure of going with one of my childhood friends Adam. We have gone to Utah, Idaho and Iceland together. If it wasn't for Covid we also planned to go to Canada. Nothing better than fishing with old friends and being there for is PB (personal best) Redfish.
If you're interested in the Louisiana experience contact

zhlédnutí 2,7KPřed rokem
Wish4Fish is back on the water. This time fly fishing for Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit in Key West, Florida. It's been since 2021 when I was last in Key West. Sight casting to Tarpon is definitely one of my favorites. On this trip we decided to break up the Tarpon and look for Bonefish and Permit. There is something special about casting to tailing Bonefish and Permit in the Keys. Dave had a cou...

Ken Tanaka of Wish4Fish is back! This time to talk about the new Costa gear and sunglasses for 2023. It's time for an update on my sunglasses review. Some things have changed since my last sunglasses video in 2020. The Costa Pro model has now replaced the Omnifit and many newer models have the pro features. Also see some of the new 2023 Costa Del Mar gear like their backpack, tote, and roll-top...

Ken Tanaka of Wish4Fish is back. This time, camping in the Catskill Mountains of New York with the Outsiders NYC. I am bringing it back old school. Camping adventures was sort of how Wish4Fish started. Going on these fishing and camping adventures. For a lot of people, going camping for the first time can be a scary thought. I hate to use the word glamping but this is a good way to introduce yo...

What time of year were you there? August / September?
I was there in August. No doubt the best time to go.
Nice!!!
Thank you very much. If you enjoyed this video please do check out some of our more recent content. We have videos fly fishing all over the world.
Yo Ken. Hope you are doing well. This is one of those crazy videos (have watched it like 5 times). You definitely needed a larger net. lol Heading out to Idaho in August. I would be so stoked to catch 1 large brown. Have caught nothing but rainbows in the upper Henry’s Fork. Will try below Mesa falls. Last year I was lucky enough to catch a salmon fly hatch on the south fork. Looking forward to your next adventure.
Thanks for watching again! 🤣 Good luck on your trip!
Wich month you been there ❤
Reel? Rod? Line? What flies were you using and hook #? Excellent video! Thank you!
Thank you very much. I appreciate the kind words. All that information is always in the description below the video. As for the fly, that will only work during the Cicada hatch.
Awesome!!
Thank you very much. If you enjoyed this video please do check out some of our more recent stuff!
I’m counting down the days to September
Simon is a legend. Very intelligent guy and fantastic presentation skills. Thanks for sharing, Ken.
Sure thing. Simon is great all around.
Hola Ken, gran aventura al sur del mundo, lugares muy duros por el clima y muy hermosos por su fauna y paisajes desérticos. Muchos peces grandes y otros chicos saltarines también. Buena pesca y saludos cordiales desde Argentina.
Thank you very much. Yes, very beautiful place with tough conditions. Such a magical place with monster fish!
don't get it I watch fishing shows to see the fish and the fight why would you just show the hook set then in the net never seen a fishing show that doesn't show the fight????
Sweet, then don’t watch 👍🏼 Have fun watching a person rod the rod and reel in line. I show the fight when the fight is relevant. With trout, not so much.
@@Wish4Fish wow simple fucking question and you reply like that I wont watch another 1
You call that a simple question? Zero need for your passive aggressive attitude. You could have “simply” said “I wish you showed more of the fight” to get a civilized response.
@@Wish4Fish I was blunt I'll admit that but I don't get what in it would piss you off I asked I said I've never seen a fishing show that doesn't show the fight what attitude I asked a question I've seen tons of fishing shows I don't want a pissing match but at same time I don't think I wrote anything to deserve the reply. I meant no offense when I wrote it and It caught me by surprise your reply wasn't expecting it.
Who said I was pissed off? All I said was don’t watch. I even proceeded to answer your question. You’re the one throwing F-bombs, not me. Next time you want a question answered seriously you should think about how you’re asking it.
ive had great luck with cray fish imitations on small creeks. i throw a small split shot on the leader to just drop it right near the bottom and do one fast strip then let the fly drop down for 5 or so seconds. They hit it on the drop every time
Nice! Sounds like a great set up.
Enjoyed your video. You are, without a doubt, a high energy type of guy who really gets excited by what you do. A day fishing with you would wear ME out just watching and laughing. Just great, really enjoyed it.😅
Thank you very much. You should check out the video from my last Labrador trip in 2022. It was another action packed fantastic trip!
Use a 5 gallon paint strainer to collect samples. They fit well over your average trout landing net. And you can get a good sample on larger waters in 20-30 seconds. Just by holding the net in the water!
Nice! They also sell net seines that fit over your net as well.
p.s. Mr. Tanaka is great so subscribe if you haven't already.
Thank you very much for the kind words and support. ❤️
my son and i will be there father's day week end for our yearly camping/fishing trip....tight lines all.
Awesome! Nothing better than a father / son trip! Love sharing outdoor adventures with my son!
Thank You, nice Video 😊.In the Pacific Northwest, Once while chasing Trophy Summer Steelhead and Spring Chinook (as I very often do), I heard someone call people born in Argentina, "Argentines", so I went to a number of College Campuses, and asked Natural Born people from Argentina, "what they should properly be called", and the answer from 23 people who were born in Argentina, was invariably the same (Argentinian )!!
Thank you very much
Buddy on the back was eager to get it in the fish's path. But once it's in their path slow it down, no more aggressive strips. Let it sink and just a tiny slow bump as they get close. A motto I repeat to myself when they are tough like this: "Make it seem like they found it"
That was a tough trip! One of the worst with at the Lagoon by far. We have had some stellar times there but you can’t win them all.
Great vid …What was your setup for the brook trout ?
Thank you very much for the kind words. All that information can always be found in the description box below the video. I was using both of these set ups. 7wt Thomas and Thomas Exocett with Abel Rove and Airflo Streamer Max Short line 8wt Thomas and Thomas Sextant with Abel SDS and Airflo Gulf Redfish line
@@Wish4Fish right on …is your rove reel a 5/7wt if so how do you like it ? Also have you ever used the Abel tr
It’s a 7/9. Although you can easily use a 5/7. Best reel on the market in my opinion. Especially for what I do with it. Although bit of an overkill if you’re just fishing Brookies. Unless you’re fishing salt or something that rips line you don’t need it. TR is awesome! Also the best Click n Pawl out there. Easily can use that for all trout of all sizes.
@@Wish4Fish if you were just using the tr for Brook trout around 6in to 2lbs would you buy the 4/5 or the 5/6?
I usually also go with the bigger option. Although in this case it really doesn’t matter. That’s more of a personal preference.
how about teachin the lil guy english? no reason for him to speak chinese anymore.
Incredible video! You need a bigger net! 😂
Thank you very much. 🤣 I had several but didn’t want to bring them on the plane because it would be more of a pain in the ass. Although, not sure which one was more of a pain in the ass. 🤣
Thoroughly enjoyed the video, great fish! Where did you stay and what part of LA did you fish?
Thank you very much! I appreciate the kind words. I don’t remember the name off hand but you can see the sign for the place in the video. My guide his contact information is in the description box.
What flyline you using ?
Airflo Power Taper. All my gear info can be found in the description box.

Great job!
Thanks. Was only 9 years ago. 😉
Hate to tell you this, but I grew up there in Idaho, and your stuff you are taping, at least at the end of this, is not Harriman State Park. Its below the Ashton Dam, and Chester Dam. And yeah, the fishing is lousy, thats why no one is fishing it. Idaho Fish and Game should be planting it with Browns and doing what Montana has done, put a species that can survive fishing pressure, and will actually spawn.
Thanks, I am aware of where we were fishing. You should read the description.
I wish you give more details on flies being used
I give that information when the details are important. I also don’t give that information if we don’t want the knowledge known. For this case the fly choice is more or less irrelevant. As long as you’re using a decent streamer as well as the right color for the occasion then you’re good to go.
stayed at the roscoe motel- the stream is literally 10 steps away. its really nice
Such a beautiful area. Glad you had a great experience. Hard not to hear.
Placido R.I.P the last year.
So tragic! One of the guides told me what happened. We shared a lot of great moments that week. He definitely stood out from all the rest. RIP ❤️
Hey Ken, I know this topic has been bouncing around like a ping ball on the internet without no firm answer. Which costa glass LENS would you recommend for stream and river fly fishing (northeast- PA,NY) Currently I’m sporting Costa Diego with Copper silver lens and it’s just ok.. but looking for second pair that could be more effective with variable suns.
Unfortunately there is not a one stop shop. I actually carry two pair on me at all times. Copper is supposedly the best all around. Although, I use green mirror. That’s mostly for inshore sight casting, which I do most often. That is also my style of fishing when on the rivers as well. For low light, morning and evening I use the silver mirror sunrise! Best lens in the market for low light.
As a life long Saint Paulite I’m telling ya, you have to check out Shamrocks, the nook’s sister restaurant close by! Also, make sure you stop in at Matt’s bar, The original home of the Juicy Lucy!
Lived in Minneapolis for 2 years. Been to Matt’s and I think the Nook is better! 😉 Haven’t been to Shamrocks, will check it out next time!
Awesome vid…love it!!!!
Thank you very much! If you enjoyed this video, please check out the other LA Redfish videos I have as well.
stocked or wild in these spots?
Has both. It’s a tailwater fishery in the middle of nowhere with very little pressure.
Good job! really liked the video. I was there about 12 years ago. Yves had to take a hook out of my thumb. I bonused on an 8 lbs quaniniche.
Thank you very much. I appreciate the kind words. NICE! Such a lovely place.
You're not really a fisherman everything you show fishing is wrong great when you're fishing in a place where there's Hundreds of fish
That’s possibly the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. I literally traveled the world and fish. Keep on hating hater 😂
My idol ❤😊
Thank you very much! I appreciate your kind words and support.
Great to see you back out with the fly rod !
Thank you very much David
Cool video. Gotta come to Costa Rica for some tarpon. The addiction is real. Bring extra gear. you will always break some thing tarpon fishing.
Thank you very much. Definitely planning on it!
Excelente🇧🇷
Thank you very much. I appreciate the kind words.
Fished the channels and backwaters South f Leesville and just North of Grand Isle for reds in a kayak early October for a day. White trout and small reds. Winds were brutal. But great trip none the less.
Nice! Definitely much harder in a kayak. Only fished for Reds 1x from a kayak in Texas. Would love to hook up a big Bull from a kayak.
Great experience hunting the big bull reds on the fly. I've fished with Todd several times.
Thank you very much! I always have a good time with Todd ❤️
Good to see you fishing again!
Thanks ❤️
Great vid, nice fish, and good work in that wind!!
Thank you very much Tom ❤️ I appreciate the kind words. Yeah, that wind was no joke! That’s the one tip I give every saltwater fly fisherman, practice casting on the wind!! Can make or break you on days like these.
Epic! You made the most of a cold, windy week.
Thank you very much Terry ❤️ I was just saying, that wind was no joke. That’s the one tip I give every saltwater fly fisherman, practice casting on the wind!! Can make or break you on days like these.
I’ve fished in a lot of places for a lot of fish, but redfish are near the top of the list for pure fun.
Hard to beat ❤️
So exciting! Where did you stay for accommodation? Far from the ramp?
Thank you very much. The guide has lodging that’s 3min from the marina.
That's pretty sick.
Thank you very much.
That's awesome. Looks like a blast.
Thank you very much. Louisiana is awesome! Highly recommend!
Sick ass clip bro , those are some BULLS
Thank you very much! ❤️ No doubt the best place to sight cast to giants on the flats. Check out the full edit at 3p today.
You make it look easy man! Well done !
Thank you very much. I appreciate the kind words and support.
