@@justinetherton4107 It now has a functioning shaker hood. Those are called power bulge’s. They came on 70 sport fury. I cut them out and grafted them on the Imperial.
I remember seeing those bikes brand new. I got a brand new 1987 Honda XL250 when I was a senior in high school. Best bike that I had. Now I'm riding a 2024 Suzuki DR650.
Just came across your channel. Awesome! Came across a 72 New Yorker for sale on kijiji in Canada located out in Vancouver. It is a triple black beauty with a moon roof. Was thinking it would be cool to have something like it and turn it into a mild custom, and then I see your beautiful creation. Keep posting more vids as you progress.
The best “wax” which isn’t really a wax is Glare auto polish. It’s the only product that doesn’t leave smudges on black paint! It has a military patent and was originally made for radar dishes on military ships. It can also be used on exhaust. It is also sold by Honda, called Honda polish. Go to Glare.com and check it out. It’s been a secret of show car people for a long time. Amazon has it and Ebay has Honda polish. The stuff is amazing and can be applied in direct sunlight and removes extremely easy.
I got the bike the way it is. If you put pod filters you have to re jet the carburetor’s. I believe the front fender is off a GPZ probably the directionals too. Before you modify it, realize the mark2 is one of the most valuable vintage motorcycles made. It’s always worth more stock. I sold that one for $19,000! If you modify it make sure you can return it to stock. The easiest way to jet it is to buy a jet kit like Dynojet. If you want to sell it I know someone who will buy it immediately for a good price.
I had one back in 1981 to 83 set up almost identical to this one. I kick myself for selling it now. I would kill to have it back. Do you know of any for sale?
I know this was posted a year or so ago but long story short my Dad passed away in 2019 and I got handed down his 1980 KZ1000 MKII and it hasn’t ran for a long time but came across this video for inspiration and was wondering how you did the pod air filter setup? And where did you get the blacked out parts (Like the fender, turn lights, etc) and maybe other tips and tricks you can tell me to improve the bike. Thank you!
The rear rims started out as stock police rims, I cut them in half on a lathe and rolled a piece to bring them to 11-1/2”. I also had to machine new centers to use the 5” bolt circle Imperials have. I believe the tires are 295/60/15.
I tried to get the owner to let me put a 360 in it but he got the car with the rebuilt drive train already in the chassis and didn’t want to spend more money?
I see this motorcycle listed via the V-max filter on eBay today (3-31-2021). I have owned a 1994 gen-1 V-Max and a 2007 gen-1 V-Max. The Buell is interesting, but I will probably opt for something fuel injected (versus a four-barrel carburetor) as well as something with ABS - or possibly an electric motorcycle (Livewire or Zero), or not at all.
Most people don’t know what an original tube frame Buell is. Fuel injection can’t be tuned for performance parts unless you buy a $500 tuner which doesn’t work that well either. If you simply change your exhaust you need a remap. Carburetors for us who know can be tuned easily and perfectly. If you need abs and traction control then you lack skills.
@@theoriginalmungaman I have not experienced the benefits of ABS, but if I can get it included in the next motorcycle, then I would not refuse it. My 1970s 175 dual-twin Bridgestone, and 1987 Kawasaki ZL1000 Eliminator were fun, quick but not like my V-Max. The Livewire is about the only equally potent motorcycle out there to come. The V-Max fits my short inseam. The Livewire is tall. The gen-2 V-max is "too tall" for me. Thanks for the feedback.
@@theoriginalmungaman I thought that a Commander chip only enhances a fuel-injected engine and that was not available for carbureted engines. After paying to rebuild the carbs on three four-barreled engines, I'd be more enticed to switch over to the notably less maintenance expected with an all-electric vehicle. I have been "nudged".
@@JonPBixby I like the first gen Vmax. The problem with all this tech on motorcycles is it raises the price and more stuff to fail. If you’re a skilled rider you can use locking up the brakes to your advantage. Motorcycles should be simple!
@@JonPBixby Yes the commander is for fuel injection only. However they come with a generic map that isn’t precise for your mods. A tuner with a lap top and dyno can get it perfect. The reason most things are fuel injected is to reduce emissions rather than performance. If you put a Holley fuel injection throttle body kit on an old v8 it will start easier but it will always make less power. There are minor power improvements with port injection. I have a modified Vrod with a fuel commander on it and regardless of what map they send me it runs choppy below 3000 rpms. I have to have it dyno tuned to fix that. If it had carbs I could play with the needle and slow jets to get it perfect. If you don’t want to mod anything then fuel injection is great.
Real 👧🏿👧🏿👧🏿☻☻☻ car, just like every other Dodge/Chrysler product ever made. Btw, Chrysler is the only US auto manufacturer that went belly up twice and was given government handouts both times. They are almost as good as AMC, Rambler, Nash and the Hudson automobiles thay were all connected to the Mopar line of failures.
What’s up with the hood vents? I’ve never seen those!

No, its in my shop right now. Built a shaker hood for it and is undergoing body restoration. I just sold my mint 71 Chrysler 300 though.
