Frontotemporal Disease the Beginning trailer

You may watch the documentary film, "Planning for Hope: Living with Frontemporal Disease" in its entirety at czcams.com/video/_frvVBgRHYI/video.html&feature=relmfu or purchase it on DVD at ftdplanningforhope.com/order-the-dvd/ You also may download a free eBook that accompanies this film, "Know the Early Signs of FTD" at www.slideshare.net/FTDPlanningForHope/planning-for-hope-know-the-early-signs-of-ftd-frontotemporal-disease-ebook that will aid you in recognizing the early warning signs of FTD and show you how to approach getting a diagnosis.
"For a long time I told my M.D. that something was different in my brain."
Susan was a top financial advisor and at the height of her career, when she began to notice small changes in her thinking. More often she forgot peoples' names and struggled to find words. She found it a little harder to concentrate and stay focused. Sometimes her brain would not process something for several seconds. Susan's doctors told her not to worry, that it was just stress.
But it wasn't. It was the very early signs of a dementia called Frontotemporal Disease (FTD), which hits people in their 40s and 50s -- and sometimes younger.
But because FTD is often misdiagnosed, your symptoms may be dismissed as the normal signs of aging, or due to stress, menopause, or something else to be taken lightly. Doctors send patients on their way, saying they will check it at the next yearly exam. The sad fact is that FTD is not diagnosed until late in the disease process.
Early detection matters.
Know the early signs of FTD.

These families are the idea: they have the people, the intelligence, inspiration, drive, and time to pursue the absolute best for their loved ones. I have only a small town neurologist who sees my husband once or twice a year. He was diagnosed only 2 years ago but I suspect this has been going on for about 18 years! How do I get a PET scan? I am barely able to keep up with the his daily needs and surprises. We are in lock down in an independent living community where we haven't left except for some doctor's apts. since early last March. There is no support or learning going on here. I have just discovered some support groups on zoom and am hopeful that l will be able to get him a more detailed diagnosis, and myself some help with learning how to take care of him. I have a son who is very supportive financially but is not in our lives on any regular basis and lives thousands of miles away, and a daughter is who is an hour away over a mountain and is swallowed up by her own needs facing her own crises. Hubby is 80 with a kind of useless right arm and hand and other issues, and I am 77 with degenerative spine issues a lot of neuropathy in shoulders, arms, hands. We are such a mess. I just hope to be able to do what I need to do. These families with their advanced planning and network of support are soooo impressive. Wonderful to watch and of course heart-wrenching. Thank you for being there.

From what I understand, most with ftd don’t die from the dementia itself, but from health related problems, like pneumonia, or their body systems shutting down. I have a mother in law with what we believe is ftd behavioral variant. Psychosis, delusions, hallucinations being the main features with her. She has diabetes and eats nothing but junk food, candy, carbs. Next to no protein at all. She stays isolated in her bedroom the majority of the time. She has no insight into what’s happened to her. She thinks someone did this to her, that there are cameras watching her. She will get agitated and become aggressive. Throwing herself on the floor and wailing like a child who needs attention. Sometimes it seems like she’s on deaths door. Then the next minute she’s manic and full of energy. It really is baffling.
