this is the clearest, most understandable set of instructions I have found. I had no idea that knitting a gansey would involve so many new techniques (can already cast on 4 ways and didn't know there were more) and at 70 am a slow learner. You have given me a great start to my project, Thank you

there exist one more methode to knit only back and forward without turn the work in each row. I beleave they call this mirrorknitting to avoid purling. to learn how to is very useful and a little bit better for the wrists if you can use different knitting styles from time to time.

I learned how to knit English (person teaching me thought it would feel more natural for me to throw the yarn since I was a crocheter). I’ve lately been feeling like knitting English is incredibly slow and I absolutely despise having to seed stitch English, so I’ve been trying to learn to knit continental instead. I got the hang of the actual knit stitch, but purling made me want to scream until this video introduced me to the Norwegian purl. HOLY COW. THIS IS SO EASY. WHAT?! Yall, if you came from English knitting, you GOTTA try the Norwegian purl

You should have used a swatch with single crochet stitch not half double. Half double uses an extra loop every stitch to make the fabric thicker. Not a fair comparison

This was a very clear demonstration, thank you. No chitchat before hand, just dive right into the stitch. I’ve turned many sock heels in the past using this technique, but I had stopped knitting for about six months, and couldn’t remember how to do it, so this was perfect to refresh my memory. A+!😊

It's great I love the end result ! Writing the steps on a piece of paper made it way easier to figure out 😊 I'll add for those who struggle that it's important to insert the needle in the right way but also pay attention to the fact that sometimes the kneedle stays in front of the work, and sometimes it goes through to the back. And she says it, but keep the thread under your kneedle at all times. Try again, it's worth it 😊

I learned to purl using another continental variant where I use only my thumb to throw the yarn over the needle. These days I switch back and forth between that and the Norwegian purl. Continental variant for purl only rows, Norwegian for mixed rows. I find the former is a bit faster but switching the side of the work your yarn is on in mixed rows is a pain in the ass

Instead of just using my hands to press the water out after rolling I put it on the floor and step on it. I go back and forth across the piece. If water comes through to the top of the towel I repeat rolling and stepping with a second towel.
