My grandfather served nearly 20 years in Louisiana for his connection to kirksey nix and others in the 1960s he was called for interviews and book deals but he never spoke at all until he was 80 about what all happened but he did claim that " Dixie mafia" was a made up name created by news papers he went to his grave with a lot of guilt but I loved hearing the stories

Highly underrated

It didn’t just start in 1965. It just became publicly known then. This organized criminal organization goes back to the early 1900s all across the south. They controlled government power. The criminal activity passed through the generations from Grand father to father to son.

Really underrated

This has been a fantastic podcast and I listened to every single bit of it in 2 days. But what Stoney doesn't seem to talk about in the podcast was how his mother married his father at 13. That does something to some people. It can twist some people. Also she dealt with years and years of his affairs with other women. Clearly she had an affair too but after all those years maybe she felt betrayed. I think that it needs to be remembered that all her actions later in life probably stemmed from what happened to her as a child. Just like Billy Birt's did.

Love this podcast I'm 64 years old and I'm from Tennessee. I've heard of the DM all of my life and I'd venture to say it still exists. By the way, people who were Very Close to Buford said he was no choirboy. The movies portraying his life failed to include pertinent details.

How do you get 2 life sentences if you only got convicted of killing one person?

I’ve seen a bunch of these cases, one after another, where the innocent person is framed, by the cops, district attorney, and the judges, and the Supreme Courts. It is just so bothersome to see a great man like Mr. Chapel spent 30 years of his life in prison, as backlash for doing his job and investigating corrupt cops. This has gone to hell in a handbasket. Not to mention, all these so-called defense, attorneys, actually work for the prosecution. People think these defense attorneys drop the ball of accident, no they drop the the ball on purpose.
