Don't get me wrong, loved the movie enough to buy it. But a great example of really poor judgment and giving up too much for too little. Rose went after the schoolteacher, she went to his schoolhouse to offer romance. Well girlfriend, be careful what you wish for etc.... Now she is bored out of her mind. She does not count her blessings as the priest encouraged her to do: good husband, good living in a nice house, her own saddle horse, nice clothes, good position in the community. I detest violence towards women but I understood the priest going upside her head. Actually loved the scene when the priest grabs 2 of the punks tormenting the village wretch by grabbing their ears and they were not trying to break loose. I don't believe in spoilers in a film that is 30 plus years old. Choosing a British soldier for a lover was the worst possible choice in occupied Ireland. If she had an affair with the leader of a satanic cult she would not have been so reviled.

In Stephen King’s non-fiction book, Danse Macabre, which is about the horror fiction genre, King mentions The Caterpillar 🐛 as being his favorite Night Gallery gallery story. Joanna Pettit also starred in the other Night Gallery stories The House, Keep In Touch We’ll Think Of Something, and The Girl With The Hungry Eyes. Joanna Pettit was married to actor Alex Cord (Airwolf), and she had lunch at Sharon Tate’s house within less than 24 hours before she was murdered by the Manson family.

I always loved this episode. Basically, the only similarity to Henry Slesar's original story is the punchline, but it's a good punchline even if it never made sense how the "Old Man" got in the cave in the first place and what's powering it in the second place. John Anderson in his final TZ episode and James Coburn in his ONLY TZ appearance work well here. And, once again, Leonard Rosenman's stock music fits perfectly. The only question I always had was how the "Cult" of the Old Man started. It's only ten years since the nuclear devastation, and I always said that hardly seems long enough for the all-consuming worship we see to take hold and be accepted with little question by everyone in town. But then, today, we have Trump Worship which completely controlled his worshipers in far less time, so I may no longer need to question this.

Thank you. I saw the movie only once when it was released and bought the sound track album at the time. Fast forward, for some reason, I've been drawn to check out the sound track and glimpse a few of the scenes in videos in these last few days. In this, I discovered how much I didn't understand back in the day, it was just a good movie and high art at the time. I now understand it was much more as you've brought to light. Perhaps the significance of what Russia has become involved in of late and how some of our politicians are actually praising it's current leader - this appalls me. It's like they've learned nothing of the atrocities committed under Stalin and how it cost so much in materials and energy to balance the dreadful warring forces that we lived under during the cold war. Thanks again.

He asks for the name associated with one of the pools he will visit because he can’t remember and the woman at pool number one whispers rather ominously “Shirley Abbott.” There are glances characters give each other over concern about Ned’s perception of reality.

The scene with the older nudist couple is similar - they look askance at him and know he can't afford the donation he brags about. Also there are 3 scenes when he meets with hostility - where he meets an older woman who is alone and truly hates him. The stone, angry expression on her face never changes. Next the huge outdoor party - the hostess has no respect for him, same for the host. Then the argument with the host over the hot dog wagon shows Ned is nothing to those people and the host knocks him on his backside. Lastly, egad a public pool for him!!! There he meets people that worked for him - 2 couples who look at him with obvious contempt. There is so much in this film scene by scene! This would be a great film for film study course.
