    I have relatives in Conway! I noticed a piece of WBAP and WHAS in the last scan. I believe you got a piece of WLS at the end. Of course KRMG and KVOO (if those are still the call letters) from Tulsa. Pretty much what I noticed from Houston - slight enhancement but nothing to get excited about.

    simplicity is always the best. no moving parts meaning it will work all the time. the stove is made out of brass so it does not rust. I have used this for a long time. Perfect for backpacking, bike touring picnic or whatever. U can't go wrong with this stove :) i highly recommend it. btw i saw in some comment people are worried about the wind? u can use a msr windscreen and its a perfect set up.

    Liberty Mountain Westwind Stove Set without Burner, available from Amazon for about $15 or with burner for under $25. However, I think the stand is a bit heavy and awkward to assemble and pack.

    It only works optimally for a few days.... for a single person... Beyond this short period you must re-supply. This is my favorite among six or seven stoves I've used in 40 years.....

    I bought the Trangia Westwind kit. No problem finding alcohol while backpacking. A Trangia will last a lifetime.

    You still have room for a bandana, Swedish Firesteel, and a MSR folding spork in stored inside that kit! Maybe even a small salt shaker. The bandana is great for clean-up, and has a million other uses. It also reduces the slight rattling of the Brass burner and aluminum stand insde the kit. Good video!

    Trangia stoves will last a lifetime. The Swiss do not manufacture junk. I have 42 year old Svea alcohol stoves that are in good condition.

    @Billecbqrp The handiest way to put it out is to use the lid of the burner, just remember to remove the rubber gasket before doing so, cause otherwise it'll melt. The advice I got (from the swedish army) was to always let the burner burn out, because if you re-assemble the stove (with fuel in the burner) your run the risk of the burner leaking, and thus tainting the stove.

  • @PHARRAOH
    @PHARRAOH Před 14 lety

    when i use mine, i put more water then i actually need & while the water is heating, use the fry pan on tp to cook or heat things up, the pour some water into a cup for my tea and the remainder for a pack meal or noodles. this way you get the most out of your fuel & frying over the boiling water is a very even heat source. also, best to add just a little water to the fuel, maybe 10%, this prevents smoke and discolorization of your pots. and of coarse adds to the burn time by increasing volume.

    Would it be safe to use inside your tent or vestibule area, or does it put off fumes? Everyone complains how the wind is a big problem with this stove. It would also be a good tool to use in heating the tent on those cold days! This stove with some titanium cookware seems like a winning combination! Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  • @loki1066

    @heli121212 It does initially, then the fuel between the walls heats up and pressurises, forcing fuel in gas form out of the jets, and heating more efficiently.

    I consider Trangia and other alcohol can type stoves great for day hiking or weekend trips. For extended trips or cooking for more than two, I prefer an MSR Dragonfly and if I'm car/motorcycle camping, nothing beats a Kelly Kettle...if you have the space.

    Thanks for your stove reviews! I've always used soda pop stoves and am thinking of getting the mini. Are you using a MSR fuel bottle? I heard it has corrosion problems since aluminum and ethanol with water catalyst can degrade. Have you noticed any problems with corrosion with your fuel bottle? Thanks

    I bought mine off ebay from Southwest*outdoors. It is brand new and has the simmer lid for $13 + 3.69 shipping. Just do an ebay search for Trangia Spirit Burner. I use Heet you buy in the automotive department or you can buy Klean-Strip S-L-X Denatured Alcohol in the paint dept of Wal-Mart and use either of those.

    When I used these in the scouts in the UK in the '80s the pans did get a sticky black coating on them that was really nasty. We were using that purple "meths" fuel they have there. But since using the mini here in the US with denatured alcohol it burns clean. It must be the fuel that makes the difference.
