Yes there is alot of research and development going on in the industry. Just like all farmed products we are producing for the masses. And to feed our own families, pay the taxes on the lands and keep everything going year after year. We need advances in productivity. I will say this more people are getting out of it than getting into the business. It is an aging business. As you know the new incoming workers are not to keen on doing labor. There is much valor in gathering buckets with a horse. However that is not going to pay the bills. Thank you for watching

Not sure what you mean ? The bolts are flanged meaning they have a built in washer. That is the manufacturer bolt. You can also use a hex drive bolt. But it needs to be short enough to clear the spinning top. The bolt head may look tapered I guess as they get eaten by rot.

@@chadsharrow9269 Ive checked the manufactures bolts.... and the socket is tight when all the way down on the head of the bolt. But towards the top of the head there is a lot of play. Use a gauge and measure it. It rather obvious. Therefore.........with the lock tight they put on the bolts before installing .......the socket is forced up when trying to get the out. Thats why if you firmly tap on the head of the bolt the socket will stay on better. At least thats how my bolts came. New bolts or otherwise rusted. Also.......at times if the turtle drive shaft is slightly twisted........ you can just cut the knives shorter to get by. And also use the hand grinder to cut an area out of the turtles where it hits. Ive use a 1/8 piece of metal about 5 inches wide bent to fit up against the skid under the cutter bar. Have to take the shell off..and do it before its worn through. Weld the piece of metal on. Getting a lot more life out of that one shell !! Then grind the front edge smooth.

I am not sure what you mean ? USA producers don’t sell to Canada. most of the USA buyers buy from Canada. Canada sets the price because they have control of the syrup. The majority of syrup is made in Canada. Also maple syrup is a luxury there is a tipping point on the price

@chadsharrow9269 so you're saying the bulk buyers in the USA aren't sending to Canada? But instead all have buyers in the USA? That would be ideal but I feel like that's not what's happening.

@@TheSmagzilla we have been selling to butternut mountain farm for over 20 years it is my understanding that USA syrup stays in the USA. And you can stop at bascom just about any day of the week and ask Bruce. He buys trailer loads a week from Canada. The USA is the biggest buyer of Canadian syrup. With the exchange it makes way more sense to buy Canada syrup. Unfortunately that is what also drives our prices. I have heard the Canadian warehouses are dangerously low on syrup. They have had a few bad years now if this year is another low production year we might see another big price increase like in the early 2000’s

Yes you need to be 3 taps or less on each lateral line. With good slope and keeping it tight with 24/7 vacuum. You will see results

No you cannot run oil There are no seals to keep it in the gear box it will just run out the bearing and the top cover. It’s a ep 0 grease.

Yes we typically install a new shaft every 2 years. We use a 1 piece shaft that is a bit better material from steel supply house. The segment style does not work out in the long run. Good luck 👍

Yes those parts wear also But the gears wear out after years of use The knife should never hit the turtle If it is the timing is off Meaning the the shaft is worn or twisted Or the gear where the shaft rides is worn.

@@coleman251 start on the far end of the mower. Take the end piece off then the skid plate. Pull out the hex shaft drive. Remove hex bolts that hold gearbox and 1/2” bolts behind gearbox. Once you get gearbox out and the top off make note which side of the gearbox the lower gear is facing it matters! A couple snap rings on the outside holding the bearings in. Press the gear side into the gearbox. Once the bearing is showing put two3/4” or so spacers under the bearing and on the gearbox so you can push/hit the hex pipe out of the bearing then the whole gear tube can come out. Then the bearing on the tooth side sometimes you can get it off in a vice with a bar or chisel or just cut it with a grinder and break inner race. Take not of all the spacers on either side of the bearings when removing. Have fun 😀

Not sure I have seen parts from the grey ones but never worked on one. I guess the newest version is different than mine even.
