Patrol is EASILY the best for early defense, shotgunner lv 1 is super trash for early defense so i would probably reccomend soldier or patrol for early defense
they said "highly effective" not "the best"

My version: 5. Marksman 4: commander 3: phaser 2: golden commando 1: farm
Patrol sucks in late game and can be lagged meanwhile graveyard does amazing in late game and when it’s lagged there in barley no difference
