My oldest son called me to his bedroom one day when he was about 8 and said "Mom listen to this song". That was the first time I ever heard it. He loved music and we had bought him one of those 45 record players that look like a small suitcase. This was probably in 1969. I went to the first, of many, Elton concert in 1971 and I have been a fan ever since. I am now 83 and still love Elton and Bernie

This has been a close song with me for many years. But listening closely to it tonight made me realize something. I’ve been mentally imprisoned, as a result of factors often beyond my control, for so long that I’ve almost forgotten who I was before all the troubles piled on. Elton & Bernie’s song expresses that contrast between mental imprisonment and freedom to dream and live. There is a lot to this song.
