Mutant Griffith Gnat
This fly is based on a paraloop griffith gnat. Its on a size 16 hook with peacock body and light griz hackle. On the front is a puff of CDC, which gives it a mutant look. Its gonna piss the trout off and they are gonna try to kill it. I hope.

Tying a Paraloop Mayfly, a great trout fly
zhlédnutí 98Před 23 hodinami
With this fly we use the paraloop method, which makes a great puff hackle on top of the fly. Its on a size 16 hook. It uses CDC for the thorax, which looks great. I added a white CDC wing to help with visibility.
Blue Dun Emerger
zhlédnutí 71Před dnem
This fly looks so cool that I had to tie it. I think the trout will tear it up.
Great Bluegill Popper
zhlédnutí 166Před dnem
This popper is one of my go to flies when the bluegill are hitting the surface. Its made with a deer hair head and a sheet of foam. I used a size 10 hook. The body is orange dubbing. The tail is black hackles. It also uses yellow griz hackle to help it float.
Catching More Missouri Big Bluegill
zhlédnutí 146Před dnem
The bluegill were scattered, but we did find a bunch of really nice ones. Just takes working slow and looking for the slight twitch on the end of the fly line. Just can't beam bluegill on a fly rod.
How to Dye Fly Tying Materials
zhlédnutí 91Před dnem
We show a simple and cheap way to dye your fly tying materials. I'm sure there are better ways, but this approach will work.
Tying a Dragon Fly
zhlédnutí 143Před dnem
This was a challenging fly to tie. It should work great for bass and pan fish. Its on a size 10 hook an really looks cool.
Checking out my friends new pond are there any bluegill
zhlédnutí 121Před 14 dny
My friend just bought some property and it has a good looking pond on it. He had me come out to see if we could determine if it had any fish in it. We used fly rods and some of my best flies to check it out. Take a look to see what we found.
Double Winged Caddis
zhlédnutí 65Před 14 dny
This is a twist on a caddis pattern. It uses double wally wings and some highlight on the body. It should tear the trout up. Hook size is 14. Body is Antron yarn, highlight is straggle string. Wings are hen.
Twist on a Wally Wing Spinner
zhlédnutí 74Před 14 dny
This is one of the coolest patterns that I have ever seen. It uses hen for the wings, CDC for the thorax and peacock for some accent. It should be a killer for the trout.
Balloon Caddis
zhlédnutí 96Před 21 dnem
This is a great caddis pattern. It will float well and has high visibility. The trout will love it.
Tying a Carpenter Bee
zhlédnutí 124Před 21 dnem
This was a fun and tricky fly to tie. After I tied it I wanted to hit it with a fly swatter. Its gonna tear up the blue gill.
Bfiyb Emerger
zhlédnutí 70Před 21 dnem
Saw this emerger on line. They called it the best fly in your box. It looks like a really good pattern and it should slay the trout.
Ultimate Mayfly Attractor
zhlédnutí 137Před 21 dnem
This fly combines various materials to create the ultimate mayfly attractor. The trout will tear it up. Its a size 16 hook, uses cor de leon, CDC, stragle string and cree hackle.

Another Limit of Really Big Bluegill on a Fly Rod
This sounds silly but tie a string to your ceiling with a very small bungee on the end,tie a split ring to your yarn ,pull it down under tension and tie it off,I have the same vise ,it's heavy enough.
Nice, but what does it look like wet? Tight lines🕷️🐜🐛!!!
Looking good.
Pretty nifty little fly thanks
Yea, I can't wait to try it. Thanks
Now that is one fuzzy little fish terminator with a sharp sting. You have fun with it. If were lucky maybe we will see it in action in a video. Be blessed. My friend.
I'm heading to Roaring River in the next few days. I'll be sure to try it then and hope to get some video. Thanks
Now that’s a nifty fly!
Thanks
Personally speaking that's a high level tie job... Scale of 1-10.... 8.5-9
I've watched both fellas do this tie and they both make it look easy
Thanks
Now that one should perk the fish's interest. You should have some good trips with it. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, I think it will work well. Thanks
Nice popper Robert I had some yellow deer hair and foam it looks good in yellow now I have some little poppers in my box thanks for sharing
Yellow should work well. Thanks
This is a beautiful little gill popper! My go to topwater popper has been the foam Triangle bug in about 6 different colors and different leg colors. It's been a great gill getter for me in the last to years. I think it's the bug eyes that make it irresistible to large bluegills. I never had great patience in trying anything with deer hair. You have greater patience than me. That fly looks like a great slab catcher. What color combos are your favorite in this pattern? Thanks for sharing 👍 Bob
Natural and orange work well. I also like natural and green. had good luck with both. Thanks
Your passion is my passion. Wet fly fishing for large pan fish. Bluegill, crappie, redear, and occasionally bass. I started fly fishing almost 50 years ago, and now 73, it is still my favorite pastime. Started tying my own flies in my late twenties and have never tied anything as nice as the flies that you tie. I have tried the Bully Spider in several color combos, and they do work great. I live in South Central, Indiana, and don't have the greatest lakes for fly fishing as in the northern part of the state that has numerous excellent fly fishing lakes. Very few anglers ever understand the passion and experience of the fly rod and its potential to just catch more and larger fish. A dozen quality 8 to 9 inch gills is a great day. I've had many 60 plus 9 inch to 10 inch gill days in Northern Indiana. I always like your videos because it's exactly what I enjoy the most when it comes to fly fishing. Thanks for sharing 👍 Bob
Yea, I'm hooked on fly fishing for bluegill. I think it works much better than the spinning rod. So many options on the flies, I have trouble trying all the different patterns. When one works, I usually stick with it. Thanks for watching.
@Callaweginflyfishing Thanks for the reply. I was fortunate to have my dad introduced to wet fly fishing for gills with a friend who had along with 3 other fly fishing buddies, exclusively fishing for giant bluegills. I have literally over 100 years of experience dumped in my lap immediately for consumption. In about 5 years, I was catching slab size gills consistently in all the choice lakes in Northern Indiana. Literally, no one fishes with wet flies in Indiana for pan fish. I've had other anglers get extremely angry for catching so many quality fish, and they can't even get a bite on their bobber poles. I've even given them some of my flies to try on their spinning rods aet up with a float. Always enjoy paying it forward for those willing to expand their fishing experience. Love the videos on tying and fishing. I'm definitely a big bluegill addict! Bob
Great Looking Bug !!!! Get out the shop vac..... a little deer hair goes a long way 👍
Yea, trimming the deer hair makes a mess. But it's usually worth it. Thanks for watching.
What size hook and bead do you generally use?
I usually use a size 10 or 12. The 12 seems to work best. Thanks.
Nice work! Here in mountain NE WA that pattern will work equally on bass and cutthroat trout! Been wondering how to tie that blue bug lol! Thanks.
Yea, I went through several trials before I came up with this approach. Thanks
How does one come about getting some of these beauties?
You can't make enough money selling custom flies. I'd recommend start the tying hobby, it's a lot of fun. Thanks
What a great fly to have fun with. Great color so you can see it and nothing more fun than surface bites. Have a blast. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, it was fun to tie. It really works well. Thanks
There is not much better than a great day bluegill fishing. Be blessed. My friend.
You got that right. Thanks
Great Way to start the day. Thanks for the video👍
You bet!
Nice fish. Good video.
Thanks 👍
Interesting idea, I been using Sharpie's to change the color of my mop flies I tie, from white to green, pink, red etc.
Yea, I used sharpies too. I'm gonna play around some more with the dye, I'm sure, with some experimenting I can get some cool colors. Thanks
Idea, prep your wings, use some wax paper and rub a little film of Vaseline use a small drop of super glue to set your wings. Once glued you will have wings glued to tie and then use a little uv to bond all together after you wrap.
Thanks for the advice.
I love the design, and I'll get one down in the next few days
Good luck. Let me know how it goes. Thanks
I see you were having a good day on this recording. I like to double wally wing idea. Keep up the good work
Thanks.
Intricate fly thanks
Yea, a little tricky. Thanks
😎
Thanks
😎
Thanks, it was a fun fly to tie.
😎
Thanks
Nice video, thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching
I see you like the new type of wing patern you found. It does look really good. I'm sure you will do well with it. Have fun. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, its like a new toy. The more I try it the more I like it. Thanks
This fly has been excellent for nymph fishing with indicator for trout in Japan. Thanks Mr. Robert for this great video!
Yea, sometimes the bluegill flies work great for trout and vice versa. Thanks
It is fun fishing new places because you don't know what's in there and where the good spots are. It is fun to find out those things. Have fun investigating the new place. Be blessed. My friend.
On a new spot, I always go in this high expectations. Sometimes it does not work out, but who cares. The fun is exploring the unknown. Thanks.
Robert , thanks again for your time sharing the hobbie we all love and enjoy , I’m a Midwest fisherman who fishes for whatever swims using lures I have tied or modified myself , I have many of your dry fly patterns in my box I’m going to use this October at one of your Missouri streams I’ll let you know how they do
Great, any input would be appreciated. Thanks
Really intricate fly thanks
Yea, a little tricky, but fun to tie. Thanks
I’ve always had a hard time with those Wally wings. Nicely done
Thanks 👍
I believe you are going to have a lot of success and fun with that fly. But u would tie several of them because of what you said. How tough are those wings. Let us know. Have fun. Be blessed. My friend.
A couple people familiar with the fly said the wings were tough. I hope so, cause I can't wait to try it. Thanks
let us know how it does.
Will do, thanks
I tie chubby Chernobyl this eay
Yea, that would work. Thanks
Try using small o-rings they stretch
Tried various things. Could not find any O rings the right size. But if I could, I think your right, they would work.
Great looking fly. Should be a winner !!!
I think so too! Thanks
What neat little fly. The bluegill probably sees it and just can't resist wanting to play with it. It probably makes fun fishing trips. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, its an interesting pattern. Thanks
Very nice looking Bee, thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching
This is the first time I've seen this pattern. I like it. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I believe you are right. Interesting to tie. The bluegill will love it. They will think it's dead but you know it has a sting left because you put it there. Have fun eith it. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, I think they will. I just hope it holds together. Thanks.
I love it when you tie the small 16 or smaller. Because I get to see how you handle the difficulty of the material, not wanting to cooperate with the program. You always make it look easy. Be blessed. My friend.
Its not always easy. After three tries and some editing, it may look easy. Thanks for watching.
This is a great pattern and I'm sure you will enjoy fishing it. Show a video of when you take it our for a try. Thanks and Take Care
Will do!
😎
Thanks!
I like it Robert it has all the materials I like , now let us know if it catches fish how about 😊
Yea, I can't wait to try it. I think it will work great. I'll let you know. Thanks
I like this one a lot. I just got into tying parachutes. I've been using z yarn for the posts and having them sink. I'm going to try the CDC now, thanks.
CDC works well. Make sure you use the right floatant. Thanks.
I tie a similar pattern. But I tie on a purple tail of marabou about 11/2 shank length size 10 streamer hook with a brass bead. Now I tie in a hot pink chenille (medium size )but before wrapping forward i put a small bead of super glue on thread base.wrap thread back to front of fly then wrap chenille to bead and tie off.trim excess chenille whip finnish7 and that's it.
I would think the purple tail would work great. Thanks for the info.
Looks like a great idea!!! Salmon is the only fish that I have cooked on cedar and never considered bluegill. Thanks for the idea..
You bet!
