everyone saying this is me: the solution, as crazy as it sounds, is to REALLY think about what they told you and say EXACTLY what you think of that, not what you think they want to hear or what you think is the "right" answer. often people will appreciate the authenticity, and if they don't honestly skip them. i had someone recently tell me a horrible story and i just said "well I'm going to cry about that later" and they were genuinely moved and said "me too." and if you really think what someone said was boring you don't need to pretend to care about the subject, just care about the person. "i took my dog to the groomer" "aw you're a good dog parent" or "i wish someone would take me to the groomer" lol ppl are afraid to sound 'weird' but that's what good socialskills are, being basically unfiltered while remaining kind.
