its hilarious to me that the camera man that was supposed to be covering the pins was pointing at lane 4, a lane they did not use in the previous show, for the first box. what a dummy
NOT A HIGH PAYING JOB LOL
@seanbenoit7781 pretty sure the cable 5 and eastlink bowling shows from Brunswick lanes used the nscc college students as volunteer hours towards their apprenticeships. Some stayed on year after year as volunteers because they loved helping make the show
"Let's take a look at that new Pontiac Fiero from McPhee Pontiac" 4:38
. . . and somehow they parked it on the lanes!
I remember watching this on vhs from Tony white when i was in highschool haha.I believe he had the old recording with his duo at one point but it might now be lost
trying to save all of this stuff
Those seemingly new pins are beautiful and evil all at once. Slaunwhite bowled far better than 109 would indicate!
I know Mari Jo; she’s bar-none very nice. Not to mention an excellent bowler too.
When was this
about 20 years back i think
I'm a Boston guy but my mom was born and raised in Wolfville. I'm so glad the Maritimes have candlepins like we do.
When was this game played?
close to 1986 i thinks
The number shapes in the lane numbers were tudor numbers.
'promosm' 💞
Wow, those are some very broken-in pins! Great program - thanks for uploadin'.
😂 2, 2, -. Nice frame! 15:16
Lots of fun
Where's the third string?
all i could save old vhs tapes
Most Candlepin Bowling tournaments in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were two string affairs.
Re the comment at 12:28 about most people who love to be able to worlds. lol yes same please take me XD
Foul line violation on the the red shirt guy
Dude hugs that line like his war vet son
44:39 Triple Strike for Gary Carrington!!! :D
Too bad Gary Carrington didn't get $1,000 in Bonus Money for that Triple Strike like he would on the "Candlepin Bowling with Don Gillis" show.
This is awesome
Looks like Atlantic Canada vs New England matchup as some of USA's top Candlepin Bowlers like Joe Ashline and Peter Flynn are in it. Too bad Paul Berger, Dick O'Connell, Tom Morgan, Mike Morgan, and Tom Olszta were not in it.
To be fair the USA team are all top tier throwers
@@justinwood6407 Don't forget that between 1961 and 1996, WHDH had their weekly "Candlepin Bowling with Don Gillis" where New England's top Bowlers competed for large prize money. Should point out that Don Gillis himself is a Nova Scotian as he's originally from Antigonish before moving to Massachusetts when he was a kid. It might explain why his accent sounded much different than typical American or New England counterparts. If you wondered how "Candlepin Bowling with Don Gillis" was able to pay out large prize money with minimal need for sponsors, including $50 bonus money if you got three marks in a row with an extra $50 for each consecutive mark thereafter, and $1,000 for Triple Strikes, they received that revenue through qualifier entry fees. Top qualifier earned a right to bowl against the champion on that show a week later. These major professional Candlepin Bowling shows was a reason why they had high quality Bowlers.
Thank You for posting these matches.
No problem!
I was surprised that Rick Martin struggled in the Semifinals as he's usually one of the most consistent top ranked Candlepin Bowlers back in the 1990s.
yup had a rough one
44:10 was epic !!!
Greetings from Rhode Island. Nice to see these Canadian broadcasts. I have to say Barry Soward is to Canada as Tom Olszta is to the States. Olszta averaged over 130 in the 1990s, and threw many a 400 triple on TV here. BMP
NICE STILL HAVE A FEW MORE TO UPLOAD
Are we going to see episode 40???
BAM DONE LOL
I believe that is actually Sharon MacNamara
Some of the greats in their primes -- outstanding!
Thanks a lot Sean for posting this 👍👍❤
still got more tapes to come
Oh btw, I hope you have the next week with Rossi Tofflemire and Doug Blackler! :)
DONT KNOW WHAT I HAVE HUNTING THREW 30 YEAR OLD VCR TAPES LOL TIME WILL TELL
I love the camaraderie of the announcers. I wish i had met these men in my bowling career. The sense of humour is timeless. Somethings about bowling never change! Also, the classic conversion of the spread eagle. amazing.
LOL at 27:06....that guy's got an 'Austin 3:16' golf tee on. XD
What an amazing "Spread Eagle Spare" from Frank Robichaud Sr. at 7:43. If he was on "Candlepin Bowling - Stars and Strikes" or "Candlepin Bowling with Don Gillis", he would have gave Tom Olszta, Joe Ashline, or Paul Berger a run for their money.
7:43 For candlepin bowling in the Maritimes, a RARE shot to see made on TV! O.O
That was an amazing "Spread Eagle Spare". If he was on a pro circuit in Massachusetts, he would have gave Tom Olszta, Paul Berger, Tim Lipke, or Rosario Lechiara a run for their money.
Ray, Miller, Ashline, Carrington, Flynn - classic lineup! BMP
Too bad Tom Olszta and Paul Berger were not included as they were superstars on the "Candlepin Bowling" show. The "Candlepin Bowling" show's host, the late Don Gillis, was originally from Antigonish, Nova Scotia until he moved to Massachusetts when he was a kid.
Did they say Joe Ashline, Gary Carrington, and Peter Flynn? Have Tom Olszta, Dave Richards, Paul Berger, and Tim Lipke been in the mix, they would have been a dangerous team. This tournament must have been a Candlepin World Championships.
yes i think it was
It was a different event... I think they called the Coca Cola Classic...I believe it was some sort of an invite event
The Massachusetts team is Marjam Supply just for information purposes
thanks
Tried that once many years ago while in NB for a job interview. Crazy difficult for a couple of 180+ average bowlers from Ontario but never had so much fun. I'll have to go back and try it again. 😂❤
All the birds woke up when I played this. Can you cut the gain?
if had fancy software lol just basics
Doug Blackler and Rick Martin were two of Atlantic Canada's best Candlepin Bowling Spare Shooters.
These are great, thank you for sharing!
They would do better if they rolled the ball instead of dropping it.
At 18:20, what an amazing "High Low Jack" Spare/10 Conversion there. If the Candlepin Bowling show was still on in the Boston Area, he would win the "High Low Jack" Jackpot. Don Gillis, a Nova Scotian whom made a name for himself in Boston as a host and sportscaster, would be amazed.
Why don't these first two bowlers bend a little and roll the ball instead of dropping the ball on the lane?
Not sure but they hit the headpin more than I do 🤷 so who am I to judge?
Where is the end of the match?
number 6 part 2 in my videos
Rick Martin was one of Candlepin Bowling's best "spare shooters". Rick Martin and Kansas Snow are Nova Scotia's version of Tom Olszta and Paul Berger, two Candlepin Bowling legends from the New England States. That string must be close to Rick's high single.
I seen Chris Hollett working at the Halifax Fairlanes one day in 1998. It was also a day that my ex-girlfriend, Danielle, and I had a nasty breakup, but it was the best thing it ever happened to me.
Sean, with the help of the Telegraph Journal Digital Archive, I've been able to determine what date this bowling broadcast aired. It was on Saturday, December 12, 1987. If it's possible, could you please add the date to the video title above?
Sean, this is a really awesome find that you brought here to CZcams. I love the fact that ATV's 'Number 7' era of candlepin bowling is now here, and I thank you for uploading this! =) But with that thanks, comes a question. In this clip, there was a commercial talking about the 1987 Christmas Daddies telethon having ended by this point, and it led me to think about trying to track down a specific date this was broadcast. It's prompted me to ask the following 2 questions....A] was this the only thing that was on the tape you found, and B] if not, do you know of anything else that would have been on it? In any event, thanks for reading my post/queries.
no problem i have about a dozen or more to upload
@@seanbenoit7781 If I may give you a tip here, Sean, when you upload your bowling videos, see if you can upload each broadcast in a single file. You don't really have to split videos into multiple parts on CZcams anymore. Plus, it would make the videos easier to watch....less clutter, you know? ;)
@@seanbenoit7781 The broadcaster is actually my grandpa
I love these old clips
This is awesome seeing Douthwright on here
Thanks for uploading these Sean. Keep em coming!
