Jaguar F Type.mov
I was commissioned to direct this 30 second 'glimpse' of the new F-Type Jaguar for the car's unveiling at the Paris Motorshow.
Agency - Brooklyn Brothers.
Although entirely CG, the light reflections were first shot as long exposures which consisted on me driving my motorbike through London all night with a 5D rigged over the handlebars shooting intervelometer exosures through an 8mm Sigma lens.
This gave us some incredibly beautiful images of streaked lights from which to start lighting the CG car.
If you want something to look real, you're well advised to use some real photography as a base!

A pick of the best over the last few years. I was VFX Supervisor on the majority of these jobs. I directed the Jaguar, Sony and Sonicare spots. On all my jobs I stay involved in creating shots in Maya, specialising in lighting and effects work alongside hard surface modeling.

Part of DHL's campaign last year. We shot a fairly naked model and added clothes made of light in post. As she's revealed from the darkness light grows around her into an amazing garment. We used 3D roto, lots of particle based nurbs extrusions with soft bodies and textured the whole thing with a ramp shader - a fairly complex ramp shader.

Cary Fukunaga's second piece in the series. Again I CG Supervised this one. Huge credit to the 2D team led by Ludo Fealey who did huge amounts of work in an unbelievable time across both ad's.

Directed by Cary Fukunaga. I CG supe'd this for Cary. The main elements being the submarines and the stadiums. Managed to get by without using Massive, just displaced character textures instead. Much faster and great for long distance crowd work.

This went alongside the rattlesnake. We ended up doing CG meercats diving off girraffes. It won an award for the excellent compositing by Franck Lambertz and his team. Each and every animal was shot separately, imagine the carnage without the wonders of post production!
Schick -Hydration - Kendo

Same as th pillow gag in the other clip. We painted out the original kendo stick and tracked in a flu CG version. The added the real flow sim from there. We also shot an element of water. It always helps to bed in the CG don;t you agree. Maya, Realflow, MentalRay. Oh and Boujou of course.

Schick - Hydration

I was CG supervisor on this series. We did 7 commercials in all, each of which had complex fluid effects that had to marry into the in camera fluids. It tested the limits of Realflow 4 a couple of years back and turned out well. We had something like 21 shots in 6 weeks. Same old! Maya, Realflow, MentalRay.
Schick - Hydration - Boxing

More of the schtick series. On this one we had to build the boxing glove in 3D so we could transition it to water on impact. The Fighter held a condom of water in his hand in the original plate and it burst nicely on impact. We added a lot of more 'directed water' in 3D. Came out nice! Maya, Realflow, Mental Ray.
Travellers Insurance - Rattlesnake

This was a fun project. We had shot a load of backplates in Africa and taken the usual light references. Then we went to work adding our rabbits and the snake. We used our in house MPC Furtility software to deal with the fur and the snake was a very detailed displacement. Its always hard to get animals to be believable when they are doing human behaviours. Wrigleys - Zing

One of our early projects after setting up MPCLA. Most of this was just the guy on wires on blue screen. A huge amount of the look of the whole space lay with me and the team, as did the movement of the balls, the Richard Serra-esque hall of twisted metal and the cold, post soviet test lab vibe! Maya, mayaFluids driving particles( for the balls) mental ray. Lots of parti-volume too.

Another of my favourite Fredrik Bond jobs. I went to Buenos Aires to VFX Sup this one, lovely place. We had some great practical rigs dragging people in fridges up the street, but only a coupe of quad bikes to pull them. So we populated the scenes with extra CG fridges and obviously the flying onslaught toward the end was entirely CG fridges. Wierdly I ended up using Realflow rigid body dynamic...
Sky360 - VFX Breakdown

This is a nice example of how we put it all together. A rather complex job as we shot everything in stereo, on a repeatable dolly running a flair moco controller. It all had to line up later to make the exact length of cut. The majority ended up being rebuilt in 3D and the amount of work was fairly immense. Its my most complex VFX supervision on a technical scale since Sony Paint.
