My 4 Most Powerful 2s LIPOs Tested - Which is the Fastest in Speed Runs? CHNL, Gens Ace, Liperior
i recently purchased the HXB 2995 ...it runs 18 mph w/ stock 550 motor and 1600 2s battery..so by switching to 2200 3s battery it would run 40+ mph..? sounds great..thx again for info
Sorry, no.😞 If you could adjust the gearing you might be able to get it to give 40 but that is not an option. As a result, you need a faster spinning motor to get those speeds. The 2997a has a brushless system capable of those speeds on 3S. If you try that on your motor it will quickly become a paper weight.

@@BriansRCStuff So the xteam 3650 brushless motor ..would that work w/ the 2995..and what about that w/ 2s or 3s?
@@whitmanft 36 in 3650 is the width in mm and 50 is the length. A 550 motor (usually used to described a brushed motor) is 36 mm in width and probably about 60mm long (maybe longer, you could measure to confirm). A 540 (usually used to described a brushed motor) is also 36mm in width but about 50 mm long. The 50 in 3650 is the length. So yes, a 3650 will fit in a truck that has a 550 motor. You could even fit a 3660 in there but I wouldn't as it will have a ton of torque (too much, even a 3650 will have a hell of a lot of torque and brushless motors make way more torque/power than brushed motors). Not to muddy the waters but you could consider a F540 motor (this is a brushless motor that is only 28mm internally but the outside diameter is 36mm and is the size motor that comes in the 2997A. The length of a F540 is 60mm. A F540 will have less torque than a 3650 motor and still have plenty of torque for your truck (it will not be as hard on the drivetrain as a motor with more torque). So a F540 may actually be a great way to go. The next thing you should consider is the kv rating of the motor. The higher the kv, the faster the motor spins but the more heat it will generate. The 2997a comes with a 3800kv motor which is a good speed for running on 2s and 3s and even 4s for a few quick speedruns (I got my 2997A up to 60 mph on the stock motor running the 2 stock 2s LIPOs in series). You could get a higher kv motor (I was running a 3650 5400kv in mine for a while and it was spicy) but not a good setup for 4s as it will spin too fast (mine failed violently as it got really freaking hot after a few 65 mph passes back to back). This setup is good for 60 mph on 3s but you need a 120A ESC for this setup as it draws a lot of amps! I have like 20 videos of my 2997a with various motors in it and it has gone as fast as 65 mph. If you ultimate goal is a good cheap setup that can go 40 mph on 3s, a F540 around 3500kv and a 50 or 60 amp ESC would be a great setup. If you want to go crazy, you could go with a more powerful motor and a 120A ESC.
@@whitmanft This could be a great cheap setup that should have a ESC that fits in the stock location (check measurements to make sure) and be able to get up to at least mid and maybe high 40s on 3s (you may need a cooling fan as it is a 4370 which is a pretty quick spinning motor but not crazy). While the 4370 may not overheat... if you want to have a combo that is less likely to overheat, get a motor around 3500 or 3800kv (the 2997a comes with a 3800kv F540 even though it says it is a 3650..... they list the wrong motor in the specs) and I don't think it will ever get crazy hot on 3s.
Its called a wire squid or a wire octopus. A pig tail is curly and only a single "strand" I'm not trying to be a jerk, it's just for reference, my chargers call them a "wire octopus" because of the many "legs" But maybe that's not what other people call it.
Thanks for the info. I am always learning.😎
Great recommendation!
🔥👏🏼🔥
Great video and speed man, push that truck to the moon!💨👍
That's the plan!
Btw, you can't really change the pinion gear as you stated, but I'm in the process of loading a CAD file and print 1 on our CNC machine at work, completely adjustable, hopefully! If mine works out, I'll send you 1 my friend
That would be amazing!!!!! Thanks! HBX said they will not make them in future versions if the 2997.
@@BriansRCStuff I've been dealing with Wong @HBX through email alot, he is who sent me the 2997. They're in the midst of designing a 1/10 scale of it tho 🤫
That is awesome! I usually deal with Sy and she told me they are not going to make different motor mounts that can accept bigger pinions (or smaller spur gears) as it would be too expensive. I really don't think it would take much R&D to make it happen but appreciated the response just the same. I love the idea of what you are working on.... that will be so good! This truck really needs the ability to run some taller gearing to help us speed freaks tinker with it. Also, I feel they are getting further behind the ball when you have trucks like the Terminator that offers adjustable gearing in a similar be it somewhat more expensive package. Wow, that is really exciting news about the 1/10th scale version of the 2997A. That has the potential to be so good! I wonder if Wong has seem any of my videos and all the effort I have put into modding the 2997a. IDK if it he would care, but he sounds like a great contact!
It's crazy how changing just the tires changes this truck, completely. Mine never tried to wheelie with stock tires, as soon as I installed the 120×60 mm tires, all it wanted to do was wheelie. 46.2 was our max! Great video !
Thank you! Yes, mine almost never lifted the front tires when it was stock. With just the wheel/tire change, it lifts they easily now! It really needs a wheelie bar as I damaged my body from it wheeling so violently.
Sweet runs! It looks like you found the right mix of mods to work for that truck
Thanks for checking it out!
I almost got these for the TT02 but ended up going with the Tamiya brand for around the same price. These look like better quality and I'll probably go with these next time I need a set 👍 Thanks Brian!
Thanks for checking them out. They seem like a solid option, I am glad I have them.

I hate replacing bearings the most!😩 I've used them and they seem to be a good quality! Good info, Thanks!
You and me both! For me to tear about the trans… they usually has to be something wrong with it! 🤣

I haven’t opened up my bandit’s gearbox in like a year…. I am excited to get in there and replace them. Nice runs! I have the identical car, colors and all, but mine is all factory original. I have referred alot of people to your videos on the HBX 2997a. I don't know if you checked your center and front/rear diff fluids but mine were completely dry!! That's just bad QC for HBX!! It didn't matter which tires I was using, the left front would just balloon insanely so I had to Ponder into my 51 yr old brain and I remember having this issue on several other cars and my hunch was correct, all of the diffs were almost dry, actually the center diff was completely dry. I'm going to be uploading a video soon of my fix of this problem and the huge difference it made, Huge! I learned the trick from @kevintalbot, I add some thick diff oil, usually run 500,000 in all my diffs and then pack the entire center with silicone ear plugs, this essentially locks the diffs together and sends power equally to all 4 wheels, as stated, makes a huge improvement! Enjoy your channel, stay safe and take care of that classic RC you have there!
That is crazy, you bought the same exact body for your 4Tec?!? How do you like it? I think it looks great but it is a bit thing (I used Shoe Goo and drywall tape to strengthen it. I should have checked the diffs in my HBX but was too lazy. I didn't have a big problem with the tires ballooning when I was running it. I guess I will tear it apart one of these days and see...
Nice runs! CNHL wins again!
Let’s go!!!!!
I never got that far with my Dumbo but my antenna was down too and I bet my batteries were lower than what full voltage is

Hey Brian what size tire are you using on the front of your bandit? I would like some exactly like those.
I am running these.... but it isn't quite that easy. They rubbed so I am running the darker gray 12mm traxxas adaptors and I had to cut the wheels down a bit to make them not rub when turning. I used a screw and some nuts to hold the tire and then spun it in my drill and held a utility knife and used that to cut the tire/wheel down. It was a little tedious... www.amainhobbies.com/xceed-rc-ita-wide-front-tirerim-carbon-black-2-35-shore-xcd101552/p591144?v=578764
Yeah man I'm having the same problem with my bandit the wheels keep rubbing. I will try that method of making them fit. Hope it works. Thanks!
@@acecapone8086 That sucks! What wheels are you trying to run? If I recall correctly, I ran the drill in reverse. Just make sure you don't cut too much off and try to get them as close to the same width as possible (obviously.... but just don't mess up lol). I would love to hear how they turn out.
So I've been running my hpi sprint 2 fronts which seemed to work pretty well. But I wrecked last week and totaled the tires as well as shock and shock tower. Got my bandit to 98 mph! I extended my chassis by 80mm so that helps with keeping the nose down. Xteam 1900kv 3674 motor. I was gonna grab one but opted for the mamba8s.
Wow, nice job!!! Sorry about your wreck. I was stuck at 98 mph for a long time. I thought about extending the chassis as for sure that has to help! I was trying to hit 100 on the stock chassis but now that the car is capable of 110-115 the stock chassis just isn't ideal! I may look to get an extension too. Thanks for the kind words! No doubt yours could go much faster than mine (assuming you can keep it on the road lol.... it is a challenge as you know!). Both of my ZTW ESC's are doing great so far! I am very impressed with them. Heck, I hit 108 mph on the $40 120A one..... and that was on the 3rd pass (the 1st 2 I had to abort) and on a mid level LIPO.

Nope they won’t if they have to slide over the hex. Dang
You’re saying those Traxxas parts won’t fit?

You just never know what to expect when buying cheap Amazon RC parts. Glad they are working for you...at $10 you can't go wrong! :)
For sure! Sometimes the good reviews are right... sometimes they are paid reviews.... sometimes hard to know!
Pretty cool mod. It seems like overkill for a 1/12 scale, but I bet they hold up better after hard bashing or an over powered setup. Looking forward to seeing it in action! 👀👍
absolutely. I am only running them because I can't run taller gearing in the truck.
Awesome deal on these adapters. Great for hi speed stability and all speed control! Hope you are doing well Brian! Take care buddy!

Loosening the slipper goes a long way to preventing popped driveshafts. Loosen 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 turns. If the slipper is too tight, you will constantly pop driveshafts. Upgrading to Mojave arms, hubs, axles, driveshafts will completely solve the problem. Expensive upgrade, but the 4s line may have the toughest driveshafts out of any RC.
I thought I got the slipper just right doing the dragging on pavement method but maybe it is a little tight. I will have to try to loosen it a bit. Crazy how weak the driveshafts are.🙂↕️ I have considered upgrading it but I cannot justify the price. Too bad Arrma skimped so badly on the 3s line. Thanks so much for listing out the parts and the words of wisdom.😎
@@BriansRCStuff the drag method gets the slipper to fully tight. Very responsive, but stresses the driveshafts

I am impressed how well it runs. Wish I could go faster but I am limited with the really short gearing,🙂↕️
Mine flashes 100W once I hit start. Can't figure it out
Can you return it? I am not sure why that is happening.
That’s not normal, my guess is cracked diff case, over compressing shock (try shock o-ring limiter on outside of shaft) or overextending shock (use droop screws).
I appreciate the information and advice. I’ll have to look into it.
Nice! Those KingVal motors are solid!🦾 I'm pretty sure they are just re-branded Surpass Hobby units, but I've had good luck with both so far. Pretty sweet little rig!🛻💨

@@dirtrider88 ah, I see
Nice test session and no damage! 👍 At least with that gearing, you have a consistent test bed and it runs cool enough to keep switching packs. Now I need to go get a bunch of 5mm bullets and a decent soldering iron to start swapping stuff over. I thought the IC5/EC5 plug was fine, but the bullets are the way to go 💯
Thank you! I would go with 8mm bullets over 5mm. If I recall, the EC5 have 5mm bullets. I replace the bullets between the motor and ESC with 6.5 mm bullets.
