Never done it myself but I had it done a few years ago at a shop. Figured I’d save myself some money and do it at home. This was the best video on youtube for this. No more leaks from there and replaced the oem cover with a dorman one. Looks way better and not sure if that was part of the cause of the leak as some of the metal looked sort of bent. Used 75w-90 valvoline synthetic. But 2 qtz of it but it leaked some of it out.

Tip: spray some penetrating fluid on the lock ring tabs.

This video helped huge. The fluid in my transfer case was green… no idea what it was.

Many other vids show where a lot of water can enter can enter at the bottom between the weatherstrip ends. You need to caulk (silicone) under and around that piece. One vid recommends drilling small drain holes at both ends of that part. I think that's the problem with my 'dutch doors', gotta look at it this weekend. My 03's weatherstrip seems good. Experience with other cars has taught me how to check weatherstrip sealing. Normally a close look will show a clean spot where water enters, usually it will look dirty/ dusty with a clear line where the seal is made. You can dust the seal with baby powder or something like that, then close the door very slowly to not disturb it. If the latching is tight 'bump' the door closed to latch it. Now do the water-hose test and you'll clearly see where the powder has washed away if you have a leak. Sometimes for small leaks you can find a way to shim the weatherstrip tighter as long as it's in good shape. Factory weatherstripping (when available) usually works best, as some aftermarket stuff is a compromise design intended to fit as many vehicles as possible instead of fitting what you've got perfectly. If you have a small tear in the weatherstripping you can sometimes glue things back with silicone. Clean the rubber with denatured alcohol first. Do your repair but apply car wax to the body or door where the weatherstrip hits before you close the door so it doesn't stick there when you close the door. Don't buff the wax off, just apply it, and keep the door closed for several hours till the silicone sets up. When this kind of damage happens it's because the rubber is aged, so the rest of it will be tearing apart before long so this isn't a real fix, but it will last a year or so if you did it right.

Thanks for making an informative video. I'm doing the pump in my 97 GMC Safari today. My pump hasn't failed but the fuel guage needle is way over past full at the 4 o'clock position not moving and van has 98k on and pump occasionally chatters so I figure it's time.

Did the Steele Kit... Labor, was 650$'s. Will try the additional "BODY" side Seal kit. I keep shammy cloth's, along the bottom. 93 Astro Cargo, 667,400 miles. The factory, should have made the weather seal, on the body, not, on the door, like the rest, of the door's are. Contoured roof lines, should never end, before the upper door lip, as the doors, should never rely, on a rubber seal, to prevent gravity, to let water in. Old vehicles, had rain gutters, and, roof over hangs. Fashion, over function mentality or, deliberate design flaw?

I cut a square hole around the fuel pump sending unit in my Astro work van. Made it SOOO much easier. And if the fuel pump ever goes out again far away from home, it will be SOOOO much easier to change again. I made the square piece of metal I cut out into a removable access panel. They should have done that from the factory.

Is replacing the fuel pump related to the motor heating up too much?

Mine died today after lunch! No noise and I knew I was toast! I knew it was going bad because I pressure tested it and the it wouldn't hold pressure at all...I thought it could go a little more...Nope!

Front turn signals: Amber 3157 bulbs (turn signal specific) Side markers/Running lights: 194 bulbs Backup Lights: 1156 bulbs Turn signal/brake lights: 2057 (he said 1157 in the video but the bulb in the picture, and online, both say 2057) Bonus: anyone running a newer astro with not-sealed-beam headlights, they're 9006 low beam and 9005 high beam.

315,000 miles and original fuel pump. Always top off fuel tank. The pump will stay cool and will last if you fill it instead of pumping a few gallons at a time.

im confuse. i have a 99 astro awd cargo. and it was a totally different setup. it had a tension ring around holding it with 2 tabs on the unit itself. does it matter? i notice they other one is a round setup where i dont see how this will effect it.

My brake light and turn signal blink at the same time on my driver side tail light, I have a 2005 chevy Astro. I’ve had the socket changed out, fuse isn’t blown, what could my issue be?
