    I sometimes will just top off tanks. Other times I’ll do 10-20% a week or no weekly to increase growth in my plants and fresh water for my fry growing out Keep neocardinia, plecos, rainbow fish and they are all heavily stocked. 8 tanks up and running. I feel I just try to keep water as fresh as I can without altering the parameters too much

    • @Fin2FinAquariums
      @Fin2FinAquariums Před 2 měsíci

      One thing I haven't thought of is the benefits for the plants and fish growth, that's a great point you make there. I top up weekly from evaporation but while I do changes 2 weekly more often than not, plenty of times tho it pushes out to 3 or 4 weeks.

  • @LJaquariums
    @LJaquariums Před 2 měsíci

    With the tanks with two sponge filters in them you can take out one sponge filters and put into your new tank as it puts that beneficial bacteria straight into your tank, your tank is basically cycled, if you're interested in a project try it on one of your new tanks to see how you go. I do it a lot and never had an issue

    In my experience if I do a water change with water from inside the house that goes through a water softener I will lose fish about half the time but if I use water from the same well that doesn't go through the water softener I never lose fish

    • @jacksons5322
      @jacksons5322 Před 2 měsíci

      As for how often I usually only do a water change when the tank needs it. For example if the TDS starts to get too high, I'm trying to breed a certain fish, raising lots of fry in one tank to grow faster. Most of my tanks have lots of plants and all are cycled so nitrite and nitrate are almost never a problem. Hope this helps!

    • @Fin2FinAquariums

      I only have the tap water to use which I add water conditioner drops to, I was thinking of filling a 1000lt pod and letting it sit for 2 weeks then using that water to do water changes, can add what's needed when first filled each time, it's a thought anyway I have seen a clip somewhere of someone who does it and works well.

    • @jacksons5322

    With only a few tanks, I pull a gallon or two off the top every 2-3 days. Once a month a 20-30 percent change. But keeping the glass clean is my headache. I let the algae stay on the back months on end. Hang in back filters are my favorite but I use sponges on some and use a canister and powerhead on my large aquarium.
