Minutemen with Charlie Haden "Little Man With a Gun in His Hand" (live)
zhlédnutí 29KPřed 12 lety
From the Corndogs video, available at Corndogs.org. This clip is originally part of a four song set from the Corndogs video, recorded at McCabe's Guitar Shop, Santa Monica, CA (1984). Recorded by Dave Travis. Apologies for the poor pic and sound quality, and the sound skipped out of sync in the editing, but I thought it was a worth while document to upload in spite of those factors.

Live video of that song.
I was at this show! I got a fantastic spot, right in front of D. Boone and some of his sweat got on me. You don't forget things like that.
yess, brilliant stuff!
Magnificent poet
At that time Josh Haden was playing in Treacherous Jaywalkers, one maxi ep on... SST
D.Boon rips
Nice
Rittenhouse ...
Should be every competent man in America under the age of 25.
So awesome. Thanks. Jam econo.
Omg I was at that show! Charlie's "Now I can say I played with the minutemen" comment plays back in my head all the time. THANK YOU!
Scientist rock in full effect!
war on the horizon; a ship with bloody sails Andy Young slips on his Chamberlain appeasement getup he got from years listening to the CP hype Martin Luther King. is there somebody hear to record this? the US being thrown out the front door? the Russian bear coming out the back door my man suddenly clearly an apologist for new-style colonialism telling us we can't fight the US, those centuries of our dead are buried here oceans of our blood have fertilized the black nation in the South / is there someone here to get this down? can I get a -- like they say -- witness? an eye that can see through this year, in Jimmy Carter's snake-oil show, there is a room nobody talks about steel door, fumes seep underneath inside, blood and hair on the floor bones stacked in the corner photos of Goering and Goebbels and Joe McCarthy and Nixon in the nude trying to put helmets on their peckerwoods; will somebody put this stuff out? // you walk through a museum all the colors of the spectrum but not one image... except of checks passing Pollock dollar signs de Kooning fortunes Larry Rivers pots at the ends of the rainbows. No people no love no heart and soul insides flowing out no fighting on the street no fires rip the sky no children screaming death no police no state, except it is the state, bullshitting on the wall, no peoples' struggle, just colors thrown by baby snooks a down and leaving unintellectual NO RECORD OF THIS PLACE. as wild a motherfuckin joint America is somebody should get this shit down, otherwise no one will believe it. get it down get it on the record get the hate the horror the lies the rockefeller monsters eating corpses / heey bro, say hey, what it is, dude, yeah too, to do it is, yeah? wowlaowdootieroo baybaybay-BE, carrying a radio on his shoulder eating corpses coal mines, garment center, assembly lines hot steaming steel poured through space / not any of life is there. hey poet. you, artist, he turns in the shadows suckin a marble. dribblin andy warhols lost nut / he is an ARTIST, he is a po' 8. a po' 9. his work is about everything, his work is about the universe, her work is about the universe, her work is about the stars, belching her work is about grey hair lost in the desert peeped in a teeny voice NO BABIES NO SCREAMS NO RED LIFE NO FUTURE, death peeped in a teeny voice, stupidity dripped in a sultry voice bourgeois poets yodel nonsense about boring absence, they think of funny ways for letters to sit on the page, concrete fullshit, arty dumbshit, they are as safe as old toilet paper. revolution swoops the world, bourgeois artists stare at crumbs of dust in the light. people change reality. but these dull imitation poets talk to us of fragmented nothingness like 2-celled creatures trying to bebop; the world is heavier than they know. they do not know. they fight knowledge with abstraction and think they cool because they talk to theyself! they are full of shit. like vultures peckin on an open grave / they uphold dying capitalism and give themselves airs they think they shit is profound. complex but the people think it's as profound and complex as monkey farts. now, meditate.... on that!
Fred Hopkins.
Music would've peaked that night if Ornette had been at the gig
this is amazing
Amazing! And, an historically important documenration of...magic
Is Watt even playing? Or sitting out?
It's him playing the regular bass line, the furthers forward in the mix at the start of the tune. It's easier to hear Haden once they start to jam/solo. Around the 10 minute mark the camera pans right, and you can just about make out Mike, bass in hand, standing next to George.
👍✔️ Gin Soaked Boy Good day friends. I subscribed to your channel. My friend has a dream of growing a channel. I support him. Would you like to subscribe to his channel? czcams.com/video/v29x0JWPauo/video.html 👍✔️
Who's on trumpet?
Petra🎙 sent me here 🤓
Free Jazz Punk Rock!
This shit sounds " SO " fresh , it seems like it's in the Future !
What is going on, how did this happen
Don't recall exactly what was said, but Mike talks a bit about it in his interview with Charlie's son Josh (of Spain, the group) in an episode of the Watt From Pedro podcast.
@@GinSoakedBoy Thanks man, I'll look for the pod and episode to listen to at work today, that sounds great.
wow, what a night that would have been.
I listened to Double Nickles every day for about five years.
Same here
Know all the words, to all the songs?
Time well spent
Why'd you stop?
Lots of nickles
Yes !
Wow! I never knew this happened. Thanks for cluing me in.
Pity Ornette and Rollins never got together for a little walz.
In fact, Sonny Rollins showed up at Ornette's tribute show a few years ago. www.robertchristgau.com/xg/music/coleman-14.php
Think he meant Henry not Sonny
fantastic
I'm sure I was there at McCabe's that night. Great venue. As was The Lighthouse. I wish video cams had been more available then.
That’s awesome
Absolutely a worth while document. Incredible!
thanks for sharing this!!!
Relevant and beautiful.
I only dreamed that this existed that I could see it. Thank you
Anyone know where I could find a transcription of this poem?
Copy the words...I bet the Maestro will not really care. I have. May he RinP!

you rock, thanks!
The library.
I can't believe this is real!
RIP AMIRI, WAIL ON!!
Awesome. Just one question, how can this be 30 years ago? Fuck.
Closer to 40 than 30 now. Might as well listen again.
Isn’t it so odd that I just interacted with you from 7 years ago. didn’t think some random stoned person would be bringing you back here 7 years later id bet
Boon Watt Hurley Haden! Jazz Punk Odyssey. RIP Charlie - miss you and D.
RIP the two biggest guns in the land
Meditate on that!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Farts = Hot Air, As well.
thank you... i'm 43 and grew up in the 80s/90s, and i hate hearing old farts talk about how great things were "back in the day". if anything, there's as much great music out now, if not more, AND exposure to great music (past and present) is even easier because of the internet. nostalgia is cheap, nostalgia=death.
@veryoffensivename its a pun...
@DontEatEggs666 I hate seeing this shit every where I go. I get it, young people scare you. But seriously, that is not the state of the current underground scene. There are just as many great underground bands out there now then there was at any time. There will never be another Minutemen, Fugazi, etc but just because you aren't involved in music any more doesn't mean music sucks now.
HOLY WOW is THIS FOR REAL?! seems to b! Oh HEAVEN right NOW!
wow, they sounded really good live
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
fIREHOSE still has the same vibe as The Minutemen did. You know, that jam music that Mike is such a fan of.
What a great philosophy ! The roar of the masses are nothing but farts!!
