The 85mm is an incredible lens and takes breathtaking photos czcams.com/video/EBFgqqLLrTI/video.html but practically speaking, I just rarely get to use the 85 as often as I would like to shooting weddings (a ton of the time being indoors or in limited spaces). Instead, I opted out for the 28-70 and it has been a literal game-chang...

👍👍👍
Well if you don’t like dirty shots and just flat clean images then yes, the 2.0 is better than a 1.2
Great stuff! few questions: Gear? Camera settings for each photo?
just get a rf 70-200 2.8, you're gonna be alright
best photo grapher.
That noticeable chromatic abberation though on the longer-end shots
Hi Tim, what Cannon low light lens would work with a ZWO ASI 178 MM planetary camera? Must have an image stabilizer. Used below 10,000' airspace only.
all RF lenses have fully electronic control, you can only use them on RF compatible cameras, otherwise there would be no IS, no aperture control and above all no possibility to move the focus cause the focus ring has no direct connection and only works by wire. so no, you cant use them on a planetary camera. however you can use most older EF lenses with an adapter and pull focus by hand, but no aperture control and no IS.
@@Digi20 Thank you.
Great review with some amazing real world images. I was thinking about getting this or the 28 70 f2, but since i only shoot candids of my children, i went with the 50mm 1.2 instead
Yes, Tamron makes a 35-150mm f/2-2.8 too for Canon Sony and Nikon.
Tamron makes nice lenses, however 35-150 is not comparable with 24-105mm. Focal lengths are totally different, especially in the wide end the difference is huge.
They don’t make it for canon.
@@jamesjackson4264 you’re right, it’s been on the rumor mill and the Nikon Z version was only recently released (higher price tag than Sony E). Maybe Canon RF mount will follow suit soon.
@@captainlooney4356 to bad canon is playing hard ball.
These are the types of videos I need, thank you so much! I think that I'd only get this lens if I had to cover events, and would be perfect for the "backpack journalist." My go-to lenses right now (that I own) are the 28-70 and the 70-200, but I have to use the ring adapter since that one is for an older camera. I love it so much though!
awesome presentation - thank you.
Step 0: be attractive
Wish we got to see the position of lighting.but great vibes
just finished watching this video and your 135 video. I'm a bit torn about getting the 28-70 f2. for a standard zoom range, i was considering the 28-70, 24-105/2.8 and decided this one is better for me. when i was about to pull the trigger, i am thinking, it's quite a bit of money for this 'standard' range that doesn't really wow me like a 70-200 range or the 15-35 range. I think in the end i'll stick with my 28.2,8 + 50 1.8 combo for this area which i've been using for a while (before it was a 35/24 before the 28 came out. I don't think i'll sell my 85mm lens, but i do like the 135mm range more. ah first world problems! great video and congrats on 1.5k subs! heres to 1 mill!
Great tips!!! I enjoy the content!!!
👍
I am looking for Len that I can carry and a prime len and it is my first Len with Canon R6 II. Should I purchase RF 24-70 OR RF 15-35? Thank you.
thanks bro your this video helped me so much love to see more.thanks for making this kind of good content
What a beautiful couple and magical vows! Thanks for sharing, Tim! Loved the dance grid!
Ah thank you so much! It was such a unique and amazing story they had, and we had so much fun filming it! OH! that dance grid overheated my computer hahahah so happy you enjoyed it!
@@timchuonphotography That Brady Bunch framing with the 360 degree cam dancing shots were epic. Makes you stand out from the rest of the wedding videographers. I think it's a game changer for your business.
Can't use an 85 indoors? Are you shooting weddings in Airsteam trailers or airplane cockpits? That's one of the craziest things I've ever heard on the internet.
Oftentimes with traditional Chinese, Cambodian, and Vietnamese weddings, we have intimate ceremonies at homes that an 85 wouldn’t be able to cover. Backyard receptions are common as well, and there isn’t much space to work with so you have to be cognizant of the variety of wedding coverage and clientele
Now you know why
@@timchuonphotography I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were trying to cover an entire event with one lens. Yes, then an 85's a poor choice. A 24-70 might be a better play for you as you get even more range (24 v 28 is a big deal). I, too, photograph tea ceremonies, intimate weddings and backyard receptions and always make room for an 85 (two actually, the RF ƒ1.2L and RF ƒ2.0 Macro). In these tight spaces, 85's pair well with a 15-35. Glad you like the 28-70 - mine arrives next week.
The 28-70 isn't image stabilized.
I want to see female poses

Great i like idey.
Is this better than 70-200mm rf2.8 in terms of sharpness and boke?
And now the one reason not to purchase the 135mm f/1.8 from canon -- 'Plena' .
I prefer the RF 24-70mm 2.8 because it's 2.8 is more than enough for me plus it focuses faster, closer, and it is better for video.
85mm 1.2 is too tight indoor that's why the RF 50mm 1.2 is also available. Hopefully, they come out with the RF 35mm 1.4 lens.
How is the 70mm end, compared to 85mm in terms of facial distortion (in headshot, for example)?
The king portrait lens👍
nice review, but as you mentioned if you have the 70-200mm is not worth it right? did you say 20mm to 70? or you meant 24-70? just curious.!
I’m planning to pick this lens tomorrow. Beautiful photos.
Tim NICE VIDEO !! Number 2 reason you really think that? Reason number 7, 8 & 10 are cool!
Your photo colors are off
Thank you.
I think of black & white as a method to either (1) accentuate one of the other 6 visual elements, or (2) trigger human emotion associated with black & white, which is usually nostalgia.
Thank you for excellent review🙏👍🙏.I sold my ef 24-70 f2.8 ii,35 f1.4 ii,85 f1.2 ii👋 and get the little monster rf 28-70 f2🙌.Paired with my R6 mark ii😊

Good job ❤
If clients aren't going to care about a bokeh difference from ƒ1.2 to ƒ2.0, will they really notice if you take it easy and shoot the day with a 24-105L ƒ4.0? We own all the usual RF wedding suspects (it's a big lens bag) and the RF24-105 never disappoints. Some of our second shooters live all day on it. Super sharp and talk about a range. I only point it out as once you slide down "the clients will never know" you can really pull towards convenience and never look back. Also, want an 85 that goes close? Get the RF 85 ƒ2.0 macro - again CRAZY sharp and your clients won't know. We have two of them, along side the ƒ1.2 monster and I never look at the little macro images and think "we should've been shooting the 1.2"
thats not a fair comparison when 1.2 and 2.0 are only 1 stop away from each other vs being over 3 stops on from 1.2 to 4 and the bokeh is way more noticeable at that point.
I love my RF 50mm 1.2 and use it most of the time for portraits. I'm interested in the RF 135mm mostly because I feel it would pair better with the 50mm 1.2 than getting an 85mm 1.2. Maybe I'm wrong though.
Good combo 50+135
that would be an awesome combo to be honest
Great job! You need smzeus.
aghhh im just waiting for this to get listed on amazon so i can use my amazon credit card to get 5 percent back on this next lens purchase.... cmon!!!!
Circular (or swirley bokeh) in a lens is a defective design. In Canon's attempt to limit cat's eye in the corners they overcorrected. Makes it a garbage lens if it does it often.
Hmmm bokeh looks really ugly half the time
Where are your frames in the background from?
I had the same decision to do... but for me the RF85mm 1.2 was the better option because it's better to communicate with the models... both are great lenses
I totally agree with U 👍
My EF 85mm 1.2 did that cool swirl “warp” but, the RF one doesn’t seem to.
Question: Did you use some type of fill light for the backlit images? Flash? Reflector? Thanks for the pose info. I am shooting some HS grad pics for a friend this spring and getting some ideas for male poses. This was quite helpful. Have a great week.
