Hello and welcome to our channel!
We are David & Ami, a Scottish couple who have been travelling and exploring together for many years enjoying all kinds of travel, from hotels, to camping, caravanning, car camping and now a Campervan.
Our Campervan journey began in 2016 when we purchased a second hand delivery van, a Citroen Relay. We converted the van on the driveway at home, although self-builds are always work in progress...
We love Scotland and the outdoors, and our Campervan takes us to all of the places where we can enjoy hillwalking, skiing, paddle boarding, cycling and spending time. Our Campervan is fully equipped for off grid living all year round, although we do also stay in campsites. We have busy lives, and van life is our escape for the odd night, weekend or longer break whenever possible.
In 2023 we decided to start our CZcams channel so we could share all of our adventures with you.
We hope you enjoy our videos and thank you for taking time to watch.

In this video we carry out some DIY mechanical work to our Citroen Relay 2.2 Campervan. One of the coolant hoses coming from the heater matrix was damaged after rubbing on a metal bracket, so when I was replacing that hose I decided to do a few other jobs at the same time. New coolant/ heater matrix hose replaced. Radiator removed and new one fitted. EGR valve removed, cleaned and re-fitted. Ai...

Excellent video, im in my Relay van FT and im on no way a mechanic but this was easy to understand....👍👍
Thanks 👍
What was the name of the town you got the chips from?, I couldn't make out what you called it....
Arrochar chippy, at the top of Loch Long.
The Rothesay ferry will be a bit busy the latter half of this week and weekend because Butefest is on.
Brilliant thanks, always something going on for such a small island. 👍
Gotta love the Scots!
I have an Autotrail chieftain tag axle, handbrake is an absolute nightmare.
Well iv watched this 3 times and iv still NOT seen a £10 changed hands....SHOW ME THE MONEY..😊😊
Me neither, not saying Ami is cheap…….
Im doing a little 3 month tour of the west coast of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides in my van this winter, the only plan I have is that I will be on Luskentre Beach on Christmas Day....and yes I will be going for a swim.... That memorial is on my list too
Enjoy your trip, the weather can be brutal in the winter, but still an amazing place to spend time.
@@davidamioffgrid if it’s cold I will put a jumper on lol…
Great video.. really enjoyed it some great shots of the city.
Thanks, it’s a great city with such friendly people, we will be back.
I was there on my partner Andys bike behind the Predator bike helmet❤
It was a brilliant day, we couldn't believe how many bikers turned up, amazing!
Good I was on abbey rd
We were also on Abbey Road, we had a great time, such an amazing day!

Hi guys its bats head and the standing rock is called butters rock hope your having a great time,we have been several times and there is plenty to do and see we are lucky as jeans brother lives in weymouth so we dont need to worry too much about parking our van and shuggie takes us on day trips to places in his motorhome.Well done getting van sorted.
Thanks John, I didn't know what it was called, even after visiting the area for over 40 years! Always something needing fixed on that van, but it is an enjoyable hobby, unlike some of the other jobs Ami has me doing in the house! I hope you and Jean enjoy your travels! Cheers
Absolutely brilliant video. I live on Mull and you have definitely done our island justice. Thank you!!
Thanks, we always enjoy visiting Mull, you live in an amazing island. We will be back soon!
Brilliant video, thanks a lot
Ive got a slapping coming from my engine, just ordered the timing chain kit this week. Did you support the engine when taking off the engine mount? Any issues at all getting the mount back on?
Hi Frazer, the chain slap will be a slack chain tensioner. I put a hydraulic jack underneath the sump with a lump of wood on top of the jack to support the engine. I have no idea if this is how a professional would do it, but it worked and I had no issues getting the engine mount back on either. It will make life easier if you have long sockets and a long extension bar to reach down to the engine mount. I also moved the coolant tank out of the way for better access. Hope it all goes well 👍
Just subscribed . Great video, just about to change the Rad on our van . Thsnks for posting. Im not as worried about doing it now .
Thanks for subscribing! Hope it all goes well.
very sad to see hope you get back up and running love your vlogs
Thanks Jessie x
"John" is an oyster catcher, reasonably rare in the UK so a nice spot. I shall refrain from jokes about Ami needing to buy some soap. 8:35 there's palm trees in Scotland and you didn't mention it!!! The anti-aircraft battery, there's a few near Glasgow but they're not nearly as well preserved as the one you found. Really cool to see it intact. Grid vid as usual!
Thanks Stewart, so much wildlife in Scotland if you stop and look for it, and also know what you’re looking for (which I don’t!). Also lots of military relics around, although some were in farmers fields being used by cows to shelter, so we avoided those ones!
Amazing places to see 😍👍👍 Great little video Guys just started doing a few Munro's moved up here from London ... Loving Scotland
Thanks, if you want to tick off 3 easy munro's in one day then park at Glenshee Ski Centre and you can do Cairnwell, Meall Odhar & Glas Maol Cheers
Great video - very informative. 👍 my wife and I are heading over to the Outer Hebrides this May (2024) . Hope you are still travelling about.
Thanks, yes still out and about in between work and home decorating commitments. Hope you get some decent weather and enjoy your trip👍
We'll be over there in May too. Can't wait.
Nooooo...copper ease on brakes naughty....febi ceramic brake grease next time 👍
Thanks, I will look that up and see if I can buy that here.
It's much better David, problem with copper ease on brakes is as it heats up from brakes it dries out and the copper can cause problems with ABS sensors, febi ceramic is about £10 👍
Great video, nice to hear a Scottish accent too! My dad’s van is the mk3 but there is a bit of a racket coming from the engine, no low oil pressure and warning as of yet, the rattle evens out after a bit of driving, my thinking is it’s taking a while for the oil to get to the top maybe due to a pump on the road out or a bad tensioner like yours. Did you say you done the timing chain tensioners? What about the chain? Curious on the millage as well, cheers👍
Thanks, ours was just a bit noisy on start up, sounded like the chain slapping around a bit. I changed the timing chain and the tensioner at the same time, probably about 2 or 3 years ago now, so about 175k miles. There are chain guides and a spring loaded tensioner roughly in the middle, ours was worn badly. The chain looked fine, not stretched, so I think it was just the tensioner that needed replaced, but worth doing everything whilst in there. There is a known issue with oil pumps on certain years of these vans, maybe worth looking into. Good luck, Cheers 👍
Visited Glencoe on Sunday. It’s been a long time doing the snow dance but it finally came good. Bluebird day, blue skies no wind, and strangely no queues at the lifts. Very un-Scottish! Used to be a Glenshee stalwart, Glencoe now my first choice, can’t beat it for scenery and vibe.
Glencoe is great, but I also enjoy Glenshee, especially when Glas Maol is open ⛷️
Great video mate, have you had any issues since adjusting it? Btw is that a Glasgow accent I detect? :)
All been working well since, and yes we are just south of Glasgow👍
I'm not far from yi mate, I'm in EK 👍
Thanks for the Video, hope to be there ourselves this year😊
Great tips David. You were talking about Good Samaritans but remember to pay it forward. Turns out my AWD is a bit rubbish and got stuck in the Glenshee car park, soon got bounced out. I’ve also pulled a few folk out with my wire rope. And I miss checking the Teletext for the skiing forecast 😕
Great wee vlog David with some top tips mate things that most won't even think aboot , me personally I don't really go oot in winter because I don't like walking in the freezing cold 😂

thx great video helps a lot when changing the oil pump chain, and timing chain.
Great vlog guys!!! You always look to be having the best time. Looking forward to my adventures when I can persuade my partner that a camper id the future 👍🏼
Thank you so much. I hope you guys go for it as we do have the best time and you will too
Get yourselves up the Antrim coast road
Thanks, check out Dec video
You put the adjuster back in upside down
Thanks for sharing, we were there recently on the ferry from Oban. Looks a lovely campsite you stayed at. New subscriber here 👍
Thanks for subscribing, Fidden Farm Campsite is worth visiting for sure, amazing location.
I go to a bike rally in Kilchoan qe all head over to Tobermory on Saturday for a piss up.Also in the camper we stay in a lay-by just beside the cairn were bonnie Prince Charlie left Scotland About a mile away from the second viaduct brilliant wee spot and there's a horse and cart buried inside the big column
I have read about the horse and cart story, some think it is in Glenfinnan, but it is supposed to be in Loch Nan Uamh Viaduct. I think they x-rayed the bridge to confirm the story, or something like that. Hope the weather is kind to you, enjoy 👍
Im trying to do mine now.. in what order do u attach the strings? Im struggling 😅 Also..it looks like the smaller string is attached from the front and not from the back where u first showed....? Mine have the adjustment wheel different on each side..one is up and one is down..does this matter? 🤔 Im guessing i just put it as is? Bu then again, i have no idea who did it before me...or even when..
I think there are a few different variations of these, motorhomes and tipper/ box vans may be different arrangement. I have seen the adjustment wheels in different locations on other videos, so that might just be the way yours is. I attached the cables from the wheels to the centre bracket first and then did the section to the front, but I don't think it really matters what order you do it. I would just keep it the way it is on your van as it may just be a slightly different layout/ year/ model.
Did your oil pressure low message come on mine has stopped soon as possible about 4/5 min max hopefully not done any engine damage
No, our van is older and doesn't have the LCD message display like the newer vans. I didn't even know the chain was slack, I was only in there trying to sort an oil leak when I discovered the chain was slack due to the tensioner. Hope your engine hasn't suffered any major damage.
@@davidamioffgrid me to 3k for a new engine
How much slack should be in the chain?
Great video, always fancied doing the islands.
Hi Rosemary, go for it - you wont regret it the islands are amazing x
What was the story in Balamory
Wouldn’t you like to know 😂

Yes, fantastic place, well worth a visit.
Great record of this years Thunder in the Glens and thanks you got my bike at 19.04 the black Harley on the right 🤟🏻. I video the ride from the bike’s perspective but haven’t got around to editing it as yet as I travel to lots of bike events and I’ve just finished the last one for 2023 yesterday 😉 Cheers and take care. E
Thanks, we always enjoy Thunder in the Glens, it is such a great event and weekend. Even though we are not bikers, we always have a brilliant time, everyone is so friendly and the bikes are all amazing to see. Hope to see you next year! Cheers
Ah Plymouth, my home town, the original Mayflower steps were a little further back than that apparently where the pub behind you is now standing. Hope you enjoyed your stay, your tour looks great i reckon my wife and kids will enjoy this. Cheers :)
Sanding brake pad material isnt a bad move, but try and keep greasy fingers off the porus surface/use lots brake cleaner Thanks for the video... Weak handbrake and mot coming up
.great tutorial. I've just finished my work van's handbrake. You can readjust a weaker handbrake by jacking one side, removing a single wheel nut. If the brake shoes are still functional so you won't have to take the whole wheel off.
The boys had a wonderful time camping with you, thank you very much. Depending on wind direction we do most of our kayaking at Rowardennan or Prestwick but I'll definitely take them up to Kenmore. I crashed my DJI Mini into a stream while climbing Conic Hill, it dried off and flew again but now I know where to come if I need serious repairs!
Seriously it's the worst design ever isn't it! Replaced my rear cables and all shoes and drums and this year it still failed MOT again. I figured out the issue though - although I'm not sure whether my XLWB boxer has this differently to shorter wheel bases. Basically the steel draw bar part of the mechanism was my issue. On my van it passes through a small bracket guide with a rubber grommet. This was not actually supporting the bar so the bar was sagging down under its own weight. This meant that the force of the first 2-3 clicks of the handbrake pull was using all its energy to straighten the bar and cable length rather than using that energy to push the shoes onto the drums. I used a short length of pipe to fit over the draw bar and fixed that to the bracket so that it supports the weight of the drawbar and keeps the bar and cables straight without any sag. Took it back for MOT retest and brake force was up 60% and way over min limit 🙂
Thanks Chris, I never really paid much attention to the brackets holding the steel bar in place before, but I will have a look next time I am working on the van and see if that is also contributing to the problem. I need to have a look at the exhaust soon, so it won't be long until I am under the van again!. It always seems to work well, for a while anyway, but just never have the confidence in it on really steep hills.
Great vlog i used to çamp down at the harbour in cruden bay in my campervan
Thanks Nigel, great part of Scotland
Helped me sort mine out after an MOT failure 👍. Passed with flying colours after doing the same adjustments as you did.
Nice one James
Love the litter picking idea. Amazing ideas for storage inside the van.
Thank you
Good video, good technical detail. I will have to have a look at mine, now I know what to expect.
Thanks and good luck with yours
Great job guys, I’d love a van like yours ❤
