Your number of steps per revolution is incorrect. 7.5 degrees per step = 48 steps per revolution. That's of the motor not the gear box.

Sadly ford recalled the f series for that very problem(fuel tank straps breaking causing a fire). The guy lost his truck for something that would of been repaired for free at any ford dealership.

Yeah, those are clones of the adafruit one. Should be the same but you know, take care when you are using those because if they're bad knockoffs they can do damage.

will this work with a non adafruit motor shield? I bought one on Ebay and its not Adafruit but it looks to be the same.

I can eject my DVD drive without any buttons. I have placed a switch at the back of the DVD tray. When you press/touch the front of the DVD tray, the DVD drive will open. I have a video about this on my channel.
