I am using the small led light from my cellphone. It can't harm anything on the device. Do not confuse sunlight with led light. There is no comparison between them. I recon that you didn't bother reading the video description, so you don't understand what is being shown in the video. However, thinking that a led cellphone light will damage the lens or anything else on the headset is pure ignorance.

@@eli0s oh i didnt read the comments then its just not cleaning or taking care of the lenses properly atp. Using your shirt, fingers, or just the lenses rubbing against something is not recommended and you should use the cleaning cloth thats made to clean it

There are some dark spots on the lenses. Also, the reflection of the light (the rainbow colors) are dull and incoherent. Please check in the description for a link to a video that show how a good quality lens should look like. Your headset is blurry probably because the lenses have these kind of defections that add up into a blurry, washed image I tried 4 different devices and they where all defective in different areas. There wasn't any standard pattern on these dark spots. Look at your lenses at an angle while shining a light and check if you can spot incoherencies.

The footage is shot in front of a green screen and the removal was done in After Effects using the Keylight plugin. I've done this as an exercise in green screen removal and compositing the footage into a different background.

The lines are normal. This is part of the fresnel lenses feature. The not normal part is the dark spots and the dead refractions. Please check the info for more info and a video that show how the lenses should look like.

Yes, I saw your video. It's the same issue. I am amazed that they haven't resolved it yet and they keep selling the headset with defective lenses. I guess the majority of people doesn't notice the quality drop or doesn't care... I hope your next replacement is ok!!

@@KYJs , I am really sorry to hear that! By now I've lost all hope with quest 2... I am waiting for a competing company to produce something similar but without these problems... Problem is that FB has the monopoly in VR game development, so I don't hold high hopes for a stand alone unit... It just won't have enough titles to be competitive...

It seems that the lenses are by design problematic in their creation stage. It can just be a bad batch, by now the early 2020-2021 bad lenses should have been saturated in the market. Perhaps you should ask Facebook to repair your Quest. This way they will make sure to put good lenses in to your device. But you have to have bought the device directly from them (I didn't have this option since I live in Greece which they don't sell directly to).

I guess you got a headset that doesn't have defective lenses! I am happy for you!

@@eli0s Yeah it’s mainly because I don’t get tired and exhausted easily I’m glad my lenses are okay though.

You can ask Oculus for support. If you live in a country that Oculus sells directly to, they will repair the defective lens. If you live in a country outside of their direct support however (like I do), there is nothing you can do.

I used the same cloth as with my sunglasses. Got it from the optic store. Not sure if it is microfiber cloth but it doesn't leave smudges if used thoroughly.

I would argue that what's amusing is you, while not getting into the trouble reading and seeing the facts stated in the description, having the urge to leave an unproductive comment. There are tons of links in the description if you wish to understand the issue. If you feel happy with your headset, I am happy for you, but please don't assume that other people are stupid though, since you are ignorant of said facts.

It's not the God rays. There was a shipment that went out and the lenses had tiny black spots on them and the sweet spot was blurred. So don't jump to conclusions that people don't know how to accept blame. I've used VR for 6 years. When i purchased the quest 2 it had black spots on lenses immediately out of the box. I had to get a second headset but i waited 2 months to ensure a different shipment. You don't know everything princess.

It was a led flashlight from the mobile phone. Rest assured, no quest was damaged during the filming! I wish I could say the same for Oculus, since 4 out of 4 Quests I've tried were defective from manufacturing...

Damn! This is ridiculous! I haven't heard anything resembling this fiasco ever before! And the silence about it in every mainstream channel is even more frustrating in my opinion! I don't think there is anything we can do at this point. Facebook has a monopoly and doesn't care at all. I have given up, it doesn't worth the effort and I don't want to give them even a penny since their policy is what it is...

While it's a wide spread issue (perhaps is the norm, I don't know but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if it was), nobody in the mainstream CZcams channels about vr talks about it! Until they do and this thing gets the acknowledgment it deserves, nothing will change...

This is so disheartening... I feel for you! What are you planing to do about it? I, for example, feel like I'm left without options after trying 4 units, all of which where defective! Between contacting support, returning the items and waiting from the supplier to respond, I wasted 2 stressful months for nothing! In the back of my mind I was hoping that meanwhile HTC will announce a competitive standalone headset, but this also proved to be in vain. Their Focus 3 (which on paper is awesome), isn't aimed for consumers, and even if someone copes with the excessive price, I don't think it will support any standalone games. Now, seeing you having the same dreaded problem on a unit manufactured in April, makes me thing that Oculus doesn't even care about this issue at this point. They're probably earning too much already from all the bad units they sell to customers that are simply unaware of the problem, and think that the blurriness and smudged picure is normal in VR. I guess I'll wait for the next gen standalone headsets.

@@eli0s And my country isn't even officially supported by Oculus, I'm currently dealing with the replacement via Amazon US support, but I honestly have little hopes for a functioning unit, and given it's international shipping, returning something is way more complicated due to taxes and what not, the whole thing is just stressful, time consuming and I might even loose money in the process. I love VR and unfortunately I'm caring too much for a product with a company that does not care for it. Oculus is the only one option at the moment on this budget, the Quest 1 or the Rift S aren't even for sale anymore so consumers are literally stuck with just this option from Oculus that requires an absurd amount of luck. It's a great option assuming it's reliable, which clearly it's not.

@@gabrielstation I understand exactly what you are going through! I also live in a country that is unsupported by Oculus (Greece). My first 3 units where from Amazon Spain. I had to ask them for replacements 2 times and, finally, for a full refund. Fortunately, their policy is great and they even compensated the shipping costs for returning the items! I didn't have to deal with import taxes though, so perhaps in your case this could potentially set you back unfortunately. I bought the forth unit from a retailer in Greece, also defective and I insisted for the seller to send it to their supplier, in hope that they, in turn, could send it to Oculus as a business. One month later, I was informed that the supplier did nothing and I was refunded bu the retailer. All and all I had 1000 euros bounded for 2 months, just for nothing! At least I got my money back. However, the stress and the time I lost going to the Postal Office and at the store in the middle of the pandemic can not be compensated with any money! I hope you have better luck or, at least, get your money back!

@@eli0s I'm from Portugal and the icing on the cake is that I wanted to order from Amazon Spain aswell, but precisely when I ordered it, one week after them not sending I found it weird, then I realised every Oculus 2 had been delisted from any Amazon in europe due to a irritation issue caused by the faceplate, since I didn't new when it would be listed again, I ordered from Amazon US, even with taxes the price ends up ruffly the same, the issue is... well when theres a problem that requires the return... what a mess.

@@gabrielstation Indeed, this is a mess! Perhaps when Amazon Spain reenlist the Quest 2, it will be with new units (made after April) and they won't be defective! In any case, I hope the American Amazon will refund you in full (even for the import fees)!

Try to ask Amazon for a replacement anyway. Give them the reason, take some photos of the lenses and send them links from articles that describe the problem. There's a ton of them on Reddit. @@eli0s omg I forgot to comment back. Thank you for reminding me! Yeah, they refunded me after arguing with them a little. I instantly bought a new unit after that, and I've been testing it for almost a week. The lenses have the same markings but with different pattern, fortunately they are better, I don't have the foggy vision I used to have with the previous headset, and the lenses aren't as blurry around the edges. I'm happy with my new Quest and I think I'll keep it. Another thing that I liked is that the new headset's quality feels better overall, my old controllers used to squeak and creak a bit since day 1, but the new ones don't, the charger and the cable feel made from different materials too, and the screen colors are brighter. Maybe the product quality depends on the manufacturing company or something, because my new Quest is better than the older one.

If you have the chance, check the lenses for the rainbow-like refraction. This should be an other indicator for a good lens. I have a link in the description that shows how a good quality lens looks like.

Those black spots are sun damage

I have only seen one device from 1/2021 and it was also bad. In the comments, Viesta2015 says that he bought a April model that is ok. Your bad Quests were the 64 or 256 GB models? I have a feeling that the 256 GB are more likely to be affected.

@@eli0s i just got my first quest 2 last week, and the mfg. date says march 2021, but yet here i am thinking i've got a defective one because it's really blurry af, it just seems like the "sweet spot" is so small. But as some other people have said, i don't have like, a good frame of reference to know what a good one should look like. I tried my friend's rift a couple times and dont recall it giving me any trouble at all like this! I guess I'm off to return this one and try another for now lol (i also should mention that this is the 256gb model, i think i'm going to try the 64gb version this time)

@@TheFourthSurvivor Try shining light on the lenses as I do in my video. There shouldn't be any dark spots as seen from 20" to 23" on the lower part of the right lens. Also, there should be a homogeneous clear rainbow-like reflection all around the lenses. You can clearly see this around 3':17" on the video I've linked at the description 3':17". It's worth checking out @Virtually Real 's videos, he is very clearly describing the problem. Best of luck if you do get a new one!

I also bought them in March and April 2021, however the newest I could get my hands on was made on January. Was the one you bought also manufactured in April?
