In 1873 young couple by the name of Horatio and Anna gates spafford had just suffered the loss of their 2 year old son to scarlet fever Horatio was averfy prominent Chicago area attorney and real estate owner and developer Just a short time after their son died the great Chicago fire had completely destroyed major sections of the city that spaffords lost all but 2 of their buildings Totally ignoring their own needs the spaffords sought out to help those in more need then they where Then in the fall of 1876 evangelist Dwight limon moody a personal friend of the spaffords who founded what where originally named the Chicago Bible institute now known as the moody Bible institute and the Chicago st church now known as the moody memorial church invited the spaffords to join him on an evangelistic trip to London However some last minute legal business held Horatio at his law office in Chicago so he told Anna to take their 4 daughters and go ahead to London and that he would be on the next vessel So Nov 22nd 1876 Anna and her 4 daughters boarded the ville du havre in New York harbor one can only imagine the excitement on their daughters faces as the ship dining was fastive with holiday decorations and festive music Then all the sudden at 2 am Atlantic time the ville du havre was struck by the loch ern a Scottish iron hulled clipper And both vessels sank completely to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean in just 12 minutes In all the confusion Anna and her 4 daughters got separated and then on a plant Anna is seen by witnesses trying desperately to save her children But was unsuccessful she cried out saying I can not live without my dear ones She passed out but when she came to she was in London and sent a telegraph to her husband saying saved alone what shall I do And immediately when Horatio received the telegraph he got on the next ship to go be with his grief stricken wife When his ship passed over the spot where the collision happened the captain came to Horatio's room and told him this is where it happened Horatio then grabbed some stationary and went out on the deck that crystal clear starry lit night and looked up into the heavens and drew on his faith and said I cannot accept that my dear children are in the depths of the sea but Jesus Christ has assured me that they are each forever in his living embrace And he began to write a poem that would latter become a hymn It is well with my soul Latter as the spaffords returned to their home in Rockford Illinois for some reason I cannot understand their church Rockford first Presbyterian Church had felt that the reason the spaffords where where going through such trial is that they must have committed a great sin and so their church asked them to leave Thankfully the spaffords where lovingly embraced by the Chicago st church where composer Philip Paul bliss served as worship leader Spafford gave bliss his hand writting of the very text we sing today and bliss wrote the tune we sing today and called the tune by which we sing it is well ville du havre Not long after this bliss suffered his own tragedy he and his wife where on a train trip in Ohio train derailed and caught fire bliss initially survived but died going back in to attempt an UN successfully rescue of his wife The spaffords latter went to Jerusalem and founded 2 organisations that still bare the family name and thriving to this very day the American colony hotel and rescue mission And the spafford center for children providing medical care education food and shelter to any one in need All this time the spaffords had every reason to give hope they never gave up hope they cling to the same Jesus that you can cling to right now the spaffords knew Jesus was their only true hope he is your only true hope o cling to him now accept him as your saviour grow in him he loves you with an everlasting love that never fails

We really need to fight back against these MAGA propagandist who keep saying Putin is the good guy and that he is the white Christian savior (trying to implied some form of racist ideology of USA being invaded by non whites so only white savior Putin can save USA type of message). This message being spread by a lot of so called Christian republicans which made my blood boiled. I am so against the Democrats but the Republicans are now trying to paint a devil like Putin into a saint. They are making insane claims that a former communist Soviet Union that is Russia and their leader Putin who is by the way the head of the murderous KGB during the Soviet's time is a white Christian savior. Can American Christian be more lost or ignorant than this?
