Great Thanks for sharing how lovely to see those lovely old Buses with their old company names again. Especially loved the RT and the Brighton and Eastbourne Corporation Buses as well as the Southdown Buses I remember as a young Man in Lewes.

I prob wont be going over to Brighton (too busy at the moment), but will try and film a few classic buses if any are doing the Magnificent Motors around Eastbourne this coming weekend. These Hastings units were built with a narrower body for the London to Hastings line due to the narrower loading gauge in the tunnels on the route. The construction of the tunnels in the 1850s was poor and not done to the correct standard/specification. It was found that not enough layers of bricks were used to line the tunnels so this had to be remedied, but this meant that the tunnels were narrower when finally fixed, meaning there wasn't enough room for standard gauge trains to pass. Narrower bodied trains were used until 1986 when the Hastings units were retired from service and the tunnels reduced from double to single line. This meant normal gauge stock could then be used.
Bo-peep tunnel Hastings tunnel and mount pleasant tunnel are just as narrow. The old stock in these tunnel had speed reduction. The door handles would clip each other if they went to quick. If you go to St Leonards warrior square railway station you can get close enough to look at the tunnel mouth and see the extra 6 layers of bricks to reinforce it. Wadhurst tunnel collapse and that's when they realised the mistake.

Absolutely when trains did have character. I have great memories of TM and Bath Road from the 70s. I was at TM before the First lock down and things just aren't the same anymore.
