The m42 is such a sick engine, my red 318is had 285,000 miles/ 460,000 km on it when I pulled the engine they are bulletproof

What grit did you use to wet sand?
Maybe keep the factory engine?
I'm not sure if I ever mentioned an engine swap, the goal was always to fix and flip the car, no engine swaps for this one
did you have any issues with the top bolt hole for the exhaust side motor mount? seems like it's supposed to be a larger bolt (that's what threads into the block) but the opening on the mount isn't big enough
I did this job a while ago, but there are multiple bolt holes on the block are you sure you have them lined up with the correct ones?

I like your videos quite a bit. I've been working on this swap as well. A small bit of feedback, it would be awesome if you indexed or put chapters in your video so that it would be easier to skip around. Otherwise I really like the content! Keep it up!
My experience with their color coat is that it's close but not exact (it was for a silver Mazda 3). Their clear coat is abysmal and their instructions are garbage. I had the clear coat start cracking after a few months, they sent a new can and I followed their directions closely. Same result. Their touch-up in a tube (base coat only) is OK but never will I use their spray products ever again.
Hey, I currently am doing the same swap as you and your videos have been huge help throughout the project so far. Right now I am just trying to source the finnaly parts needed to get this thing driving. I just want some clarification on what drive shaft you are using because there is litteraly NO helpful info on this online. My transmission is a ZF S5D 320Z, it is a five speed and if you could help me figure out the driveshaft that I need that would be great! Thank you, AJ
Hey man! That zf is from an e36? If it is you would use the same e36 driveshaft so either a 328i or m3 driveshaft, but you will swap out the center support bearing with an e30 one, it fits right up! No mods to the chassis or the diff and transmission

Hey Ryan, which shift linkage did you use? I am also using ZF320 for my swap, and the stock linkage from my 318i (Getrag 240) is far too long
Yes the stock linkage is too long, I used the stock linkage for the e36 that came with the zf transmission, and it fit with zero issues, you'll also use the e36 manual driveshaft but you'll use the e30 center support bearing! Let me know if you have any other questions

Yeah that is just what I wanted to set mine to, you can go all the way down or up! It's totally up to you!

Should’ve done a stand alone ecu, you wouldn’t have the map sensor ecu problems.
I have a link ECU, the ECU isn't the issue, it's currently in my setup from what I'm having issues with

@@ProjectRacecar2 no problem! Even some of your most recent videos are topping out at 480p. I tried it from a few different devices and it's the same. I'm watching the "Installing much needed parts for the Turbo K24 E30!" video right now and it's maxing out at 480p.
@@ProjectRacecar2 I just checked your most recent videos as well and only the very most recent one offers 720p. Everything else is stuck at 480p max. Hope that helps.

Hey bro I’m having problems on the final steps I’m not getting spark and I’m not sure if the ecu is responding and I’m getting no fuel . Question as well for the map sensor part number and the other sensor you mentions under the manifold .
What ECU are you running?

Would that be the hondata ECU? It's likely that there is a setting for the fuel pump and spark plugs that you don't have turned on

@@earvinrangel815 yes you need a laptop for that and to download the hondata application, there should be a ton of hondata ECU setup videos

You have done an amazing job Ryan and you are really giving us all inspiration, it has been great watching you overcome your hurdles and sharing tips with us all that are thinking of tackling the same swap. You are right it isn't cheap but no swap or car build ever is, and while watching big build youtube videos are great I always get way more satisfaction from watching your video's and what you are doing , you always remain so positive throughout it all and also make it feel so personal and real and it's a credit to you.. Can't wait for the next episode and looking forward to seeing it on the dyno.
So he’s blaming the drivability on a shifter like the shifter made the car stiff
Did you listen to what he said? To have the chassis mount shifter you have to have solid or poly mounts. That makes it stiff. So yeah… the shifter install, done correctly, made it stiff. Why throw shade when he is giving good feedback?
New to your channel, but did you try racing the car to see what it's short comings were before you started spending money and what class to run it in. An E30 will be eligible for historic events, though obviously not with a power unit from a different marque.
Very fair question, I didn't really intend for it to be a dedicated track car or to compete, I more so was looking to build something that can be a middle ground and I intend to take it to events to drive it but not necessarily get it into a track class
I am very glad you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and we can't wait to see the car on the road again. Congrats un pushing thru and staying positive during the build. It will be very grateful to show the full list of parts and detail cost of every single part and labor hours, plus money spend on tools so we get a better idea of how much money we are talking about. I know it must be quite a large sum after adding up all the parts, labor and tools. That is including the Car, upholstery, and all the cometic parts that come along with the exterior and interior. Maybe at least a large Sum total of what has been spend up to today. and then add potentially the remaining cost to finish it.
I was thinking about doing a full part list and adding it to my website in case anyone is looking to where I found each item, but I can definitely try to get a video out that is a larger breakdown as well as some important tools that I would recommend getting! That's the current goal, there are a couple of small things to finish before then and unfortunately work has been crazy but I'm trying to shoot for this month for a dyno session

If anyone wants to do this, K Power discounts their kit and has free shipping typically on Black Friday. I know Ryan pieced his project between Togue Factory and K Power but the complete kit from K Power is very nice. That’s the route I’ve gone.
K power is a fantastic brand and definitely has a budget friendly kit to get you going! They are what originally inspired the k swap for me!
I recently bought it with k power and the entire kit with ecu, wire harness clutch and everything you need it was like $10k

Totally fair point, since putting the interior back in the seat belt wasn't hooked up, I didn't go on any public roads with the car, I absolutely agree you should wear your seatbelt

You've probably figured this out by now, but with front wheel drive cars you don't have to undo the axle nuts to pull them from transmission. Just undo lower ball joints and the shock mount from lower control arm. It will all just swing away from axle from there.
Did you add the rear strut reinforcement plates on the topside or bottom?
It goes on the top of the strut tower🤟🏻

So, which model's driveshaft are you using?
The driveshaft should match the transmission you are using, I'm using a zf transmission from a e36 m3 so I have the zf driveshaft
@@ProjectRacecar2 They have the same dimensions as the original E30 drive shaft
My model is an m42 so it has the 4 cylinder, the driveshafts might be the same length but they have different bolt patterns in the front of the driveshaft, basically you need to match the driveshaft with the same model transmission

Yeah I got my adapter plate from tf works, it's the k24 to a zf bmw transmission

I haven't had that happen, I'm not sure if that is a common issue or not, what is happening with the anti theft
