Thank you for this tutorial on digging out dwarf spruce trees. Ii was able to do the entire job by myself. I put the tree in a large pot. It's about four feet tall. The whole job took me two hours. I am so happy!
Ok, I’m Canadian, so I have to ask. Where is the accent from where they say ‘ruts’ instead of ‘roots’?
Why the hell do people say "root" like that??? "rut"..
Thank you thank you. I gotta do mine now while it's my shoulder height or it will be impossible.
What are rutts?
No Tap root on that tree? didnt see one being cut
He pronounces root funny, must be Canadian.
I notice it lol it’s unique never heard it said that way
Nope. Canadians do not say ‘ruts’.
Great video! Nice and concise!
Wonderful idea.. thanks
I would like to transplant a smoke tree, which lives in the desert and has extremely long roots. Any suggestions besides dig a huge hole? 😊
Where's the part about eating a box of candy first, like I did
Do blue spruce have tap roots
Do a video on digging up a wider-than-high conifer.
What the F are rits?
I think he said ‘ruts’.
Thank you. I am gonna dig em up a little tree now ok?
I've gotta a gumtree I believe it is( the leaf has 3 big points with 2 small points near the stem, total of 5 points) that is about 2 ft tall. I want to relocate it but need to know when to dig and how deep. I do not wanna kill this tree. I've worked so hard not to run over it with the lawnmower for the pass year or so. Any info would be awesome.
What about shovel selection? What if your soil is sandy and friable? What if your main roots are all long latterals?
Wow ❤ 10 years later, and this video encompassed EVERYTHING I wanted to know about Hydrangeas! Amazing timeless information 💚
This will not work in the wilderness don't try it lol
How deep would the roots be on a 9' black hills spruce? Is this method do-able?
This video was very helpful. TFS.
What's a tree rut?
He meant root
Wow great vedio
I literally blew a gasket when you're just stumbling around tying yourself into a knot with the rope. I just can't.
Can you do this with any tree about the same size? I have a choke cherry I need moved.
I love the music at the end. Thanks for the nice concise video
I have a couple of trellises in my garden that I bought years ago.
whats a rit?
Nurseries fail to do an important and simple thing to avoid losing trees to shock. They fail to flag the south side of the tree before they dig it up. If you flag the south side of the tree before you dig it up and are careful to keep that orientation when you plant it you will suffer a lot fewer deaths due to shock. ..
Very interesting. I didn't know that. Thank for sharing information
Amazing! Just about to dig mine for moving.
This never would have occurred to me but makes immediate sense. Thank you!
Hi @MrDavePed, I’m sorry for my naive question but what is consider to flag the south side of the tree? I have a little tree that sprouted from a pine cone and I want to transplant.
@@vmeza2331213 Every day the plant grows in its soil with the same orientation toward the sun. Rises in the morning and sets in the evening. Now suddenly change that orientation. Something plants in nature never ever have to deal with their whole lives in nearly all circumstances. It adds to the shock. If it is a very young plant it probably doesn't matter. Keeping the same orientation toward the sun reduces the shock of the transplant on a mature tree.
I like how this video is less than 5 mins coz up’s have work to do. Thanks!
Awesome 👍 thanks for your efforts making this video
did this break the main taproot??
Not all plants are tap-rooted.
@@pamelah6431 excellent answer, if you allow me to complement it, this method works for trees that are not. Trees with long tap rots are very likely to die if this is attempted on them.
Burlap and all else not necessary if transplanting from one spot to a different spot in your yard/property. Where is he going? How far away? Looks very unnecessary to move a tree a small distance. Looks like a lot of work for very little return. And looks like a lot of mansplainin.
That is not the case here. This is no yard but a plantation, those trees are very likely for sale.
Very inspiring! Thank you! I want to remove my favorite moringa trees and Im trying not to spend money by asking some men to do the job. I wanna try doing it alone if possible
Thank you theres this gig for a 7 foot tree to be removed so this is the perfect video
My tree has big ass roots circling,
Great information but it would have been more helpful if you put the names of the plants on the screen as you spoke of them the way so many other you tube gardeners do. This way we could search for the plants that we wanna possibly purchase and be able to spell what it is we’re looking for. Just saying. Video was still very helpful though. Thank you for posting. I hope you’re still in business and doing well.
Good job but you didn’t say how deep to replant it usually is level correct I like to go to a little lower and leave a gap so when you water water sits in there
Exactly the opposite of how to do it. Plant it a smidge high (1-2") to account for settling. Can mound soil up to the root ball and mulch from there. You absolutely don't want to plant too deep, and certainly not lower than the original soil level.
JR, The no BS Gardner Me: BS huh?
Packed with info !
I live in Florida and I would love to get some hostas i love them but can't seem to find any do you sell and ship
Why my hydrangeas never bloom
terrible job
I can't hear you
We've got machines for that, you can make a rootball in 30 sec
The long nose shovel is what I’ve been missing! Trying to transplant some trees in an area I’m clearing and it has not been going well
A spade
😎👍
What will happen if we accidentally cut the root or the soil aroud the root split into 2?
Great post ! Thanks 👍
Thanks for getting into it without a long ass introduction.
