First recorded in German by Lale Anderson in 1939, it was then popularized by Marlene Dietrich. Another popular version, in English, was recorded by Vera Lynn.

    Thanks for this, Jack. I played Irish trad for years before Old Time/Clawhammer. Modes are very prominent in Irish, but most players are too scared to delve into the theory behind them. I've got a strong taste for Dorian myself! Cheers!

      I first heard the Drops play this song, but in researching its history, I found out it was recorded by the Carolina Sunshine Trio around 1950, and maybe earlier by other artists. I don’t really know the origin of the song-perhaps just “traditional”?
