Falling in Love With Love from Boys From Syracuse here being sung by Rebecca Luker on My Favorite Broadway The Leading Ladies in September 1998. Introduction by Julie Andrews.
Gretha Boston has a powerful voice, but she's not the lead here.. listen to her sing Do What the Spirit Says Do and hear her voice fly...
Saw this production on my first visit to NYC, it was a dream come true.
Dear Rebecca, no one will ever sing it better! So thankful layer days were spe nt with loving husband, Danny. Miss you so much.
Fkn amazing and this was the 1st musical I wver saw as a freshman in high school. I knew right then and there it lit a fire in me- i want to be a musical theater performer. It's been ages since then and while i've yet to make that dream happen it'svstill alive in me. I still have faith it's gonna happen. I wish people still took the theater seriously like the audience did here, actually dressed up to come to a performance. I'm not being a snob it's just an old convention that i wished stayed in fashion. It's been forever and a day si ce i was last in NYC. I remember when I saw this it was at the Shubert theatervon a rainy Wednesday afternoon. I loved the education part we got before the show. For being a school trip we sure had really good seats.
The version I grew up with 🥹.
She is the quintessential Marian
Wow, that was some kiss!
If this is the cast that came to gammage theatre at ASU in Tempe, I saw it and it changed my life! I mean... I'm a lesbian, so I guess it didn't change it in that aspect, but you know. 😆
FINALLY!!! I've been looking for this version for YEARS! HALLE-FREAKIN'-LUJAH! 🙌🏼
Greta Boston is so talented💕
The sad part of this story is that wonderful Celine is now very incapacitated with stiff man’s syndrome. Her dedication to everything was so Royal and Loyal. I believe our bodies immune system can only be pushed so far. Prayers for her and her boys.
RIP Miss Luker. Alabama is so proud of you.
Pity that the original score was not used .anything else is not good enough. Listen to the original score and you will understand. To coin the old adage" if ain'broke don't fix it.
What a gorgeous warm voice.
2:37 if she held it and took it up to a Db6 we’d be thrilled. RIP.
I always thought loni McKee would make a perfect Julie just Lena horn. I never heard of her playing Julie. I disagree with Julie's hairstyle it makes her look black not white which is what she is passing herself off as. Julie would straighten her hair to look more white. Marilyn mccoo played Julie but I don't know what they did to make who look so white.
Just perfect
I miss her so much! :(
The greatest stage kiss of all time!!!
The best to do it
Saw it when it came to London. Beautiful show
Lovely. May she be peacefully at rest.
My GOD her voice was so beautiful. I feel so blessed to live in a time when we have the technology that allows us to record such a performance.
Incredible
Magnificent...RIP Wow, what talent
12:30
She left us way too soon. Such an angelic voice. What a loss.
Julie is, of course, a biracial character, but I've heard that Lonette McKee was the first biracial actress to be cast in the role, although by then the show was almost 70 years old.
Cleo Laine performed the role in London England in 1971.
Damn.
Do you have a video of the full show or know how to obtain?
nice
My favorite performance of this superb classic…I still recall watching this when the special aired. To this day, I think this performance of it by Lonette and Gretha is the best I’ve seen or heard.
Rebecca’s voice still thrills and haunts me. What tragic void she left behind.
It blows my mind that producers didn't even want to see Luker audition for the role of Marian. She had to ask her agent more than once to convince them just to see her. So baffling to me!!! I can't fathom who else they could have cast who would have played & sung the role as well as she did. Also her and Bierko's chemistry is 🔥🔥🔥!!
Fascinating! She was stunning in that show. Really the best thing about it, and i loved it.
Unforgettable singer and performer Rebecca Luker here with Craig Bierko This is the way to performe Marian Paroo with a soprano not with a belter and dancer as its in the recent revival with Sutton Foster
My favorite musical! I would love to see this entire production. Show Boat is considered the first real book musical, and the show that made Broadway what it is today!
Interesting that there were protests over this play being brought back.
I could watch this multiple times, wait, I have done this..
She does Barbara Cook proud. Film capture was pretty bad, probably with a cellphone.
Morgan N hattie were better
Wonderful and very realistic. That’s exactly how the episode may have been in real life in Queenie’s kitchen.
Leonette Mc Kee Greta Gershon Michael Bell and Rebecca Luker are in this scene.
;-;
AMAZING!!!
This number is one of the best production numbers that has ever shown up in a musical: so memorable, and such a clever way to get into four of the major characters, and the black chorus.
My friend fell asleep at this musical on Broadway! He was 6 1/2 years old😂😂😂😂 It's SOOOO long!!!! Beautiful musical, though. I was old enough to appreciate it when I saw it as a newly graduated high school senior.
Terrific as always!
Wonderful performance by all!
sorry. they just do not cut it. paging Preston and Jones.
one of the best, most intelligent, most lustrous versions of this wonderful song, ever. heavenly.
