I might agree partly, but several of their heavy parts are obvious allusions to what most understand for "djent" applied to modern metalcore. They are not entirely or even mostly Djent, sure, but it is undeniably they're influenced directly or indirectly through djent getting into modern Metal (modern metalcore, modern deathcore, etc). Contemporary modern metal is that: djent elements with Metalcore, Nu-Metal, even pop, synths, Deathcore, etc. The djent style is there. That does not make them djent, but they have the influence of it in some form

I grew up in Arlington TX in the 80s with Pantera and Rigor Mortis. Most people in the DFW metal scene back then were racist. You can try to defend Phil all you want, but those of us that were there back then know what's up. And don't forget about Phil wearing his Tri-7 shirt in a promotional pic.

I use a translator, so I apologize if there are any mistakes. I think that what these musicians do is really inspiring. It makes you think about your technique and pump it up. To experiment more. But here's what I noticed when listening to Alex and Will's songs. I listen to them only to learn something about their skills in extreme vocals, to assess their ability and maybe to learn something. But while I'm driving to work or walking I never turn them on. And their songs are practically not in my playlist. I listen this only at my computer on youtube. And by a strange coincidence, the bands I like, such as Sworn in, Knocked loose, WBTBWB and others are quite bad at extreme vocal technique. And in general they have poor vocal technique and can't perform well in live shows. It feels like Alex and Will's creativity is about technique. And the bands that I enjoy are more about creativity, innovation, unique mood and atmosphere. That's my humble opinion

Anybody who picks Jay's drumming over Eloy's is not too knowledgable on drumming. But I have a feeling you just submitted a vid to strike controversy and get more views, so you might have a different opinion in reality.

As much as i love Jay and i'm still sad about he leaving the band, Eloy is a complete beast on the drum kit, and saying that he doesn't add anything is lying to yourself, things will just go better if we start comparing the 2 of them (or the 2 of them along Joey) and judge them on their own and what they can offer as drummers

Eloy is playing more like the original album, I prefer Eloy.

Jay inspired me to take drum lessons when the first album featuring him came out. His passing saddened me. Eloy is also very good, but Jay will remain the best for me.

Jay was cringe, he always seemed like he was doing too much, when i watch Jay, i always think, "i can play with slipknot.." but when i see Eloy, i feel like i still has much to learn. Eloy is insane is all aspects- in addition comparing SJC and Tama are the difference between looks and sound.

i have to disagree on eloy not adding flavor. he adds a lot of tasty double bass licks and tom fills. and comparing them based off what drum brand they use is weird to me. tama has been a reliable company that has made great drums and hardware for decades.

What is add flavor? He is playing another person songs, and adding a lot of fills to it. Just pay attention at some videos. He has a waaaaaaay better double bass than Jay, adds brutality and is not sloppy. For me, since Jay joined Slipknot, Their live performance were just sad. Rushed songs, bad double bass, bad tempo. Eloy is ages ahead of Jay.

Do you think the drummers should all use the same mask design? Or what would you change to make Eloy's mask more satisfactory? They are both great drummers. But the band seems to treat them like work horses. Get injured and you're going out behind the wood shed permanently. That's sus.
