Motivation ceases to exist after forcing employees to participate in experimental medical procedures.
Dont know the definition of employee engagement but sure know the definition of EMPLOYEE DISENGAGEMENT. Employee disengagement comes around when an organisation forces an experimental medical procedure onto its employeees. Also all your surveys, meetings and training is going to do nothing after this to reverse employee disengagement after this violation.
Forcing experimental medical procedures onto your employees is definately the wrong strategy. You reap what you sow. After this step all the surveys in the world will fix nothing.
Engagement ceases to exist forever after an organisation forces employees to participate in an experimental medical procedure to keep their job. They can do all the surveys, meetings, and training they want but there will never be engagement ever again because what was done is unforgiveable. And by the way there is alot more than one person that is disengaged it is more like 60% of the workforce now.
HR's solution is allways to get rid of the person instead of fixing the underlying problems.
Why doesnt the company apologize for what they did to that employee in the first place to make them feel that way.

Thanks, Keven for your clear and concise explanation about the basics of employee engagement. I would stress the "emotional" aspect which is the secret behind an engaged employee. It was possible for us to leverage on the "empathy" factor and create an emotional chord with our employees. It is not always about material offerings or salary remunerations. On the other hand once employees feel they are important and add value to their company the level of engagement is bound to grow with the passage of time. A question for you is about using Net Promoter Score to assess employee engagement. Have you used this approach?
They take your benefits away while the managers at plant manager lever and above get more in bonus than I make in a year. They disrupt the process to an extent that nothing runs smooth anymone with new age crap like iso9000x. They don't care about training They don't care about skill level on the job. Just fill out some useless survey and everything is great. They push the process and employees to marginal limits. They phase jobs out and incorporate the responsibility for the process onto fewer people with no change in compensation. Did I mention benefits? Like the loss of pensions. Now do you think I am going to love engaged at the end of the day? All I want to do is save for an early retirement and get the hell out . The generations that follow will be working in slave labor conditions for little to no pay and will have no way out but they will be brainwashed and engaged .

A logical progression - missing the KEY element! (Without direction/purpose, employees are not empowered with a common foundation.) To avoid, secret agenda, internal politics, power-gathering selfish motives, etc. EVERY company NEEDS a profound, formal, well-communicated MEVPIV (Mission, Ethos, Values, Purpose, Identity, Values array) first!

It amazes me people still want to treat employees like kids, it is there responsibility to be engaged in their JOB, hence someone is paying them to do a JOB so they are not motivated then they need to find something else or find goals they have for their lives to be there motivation.
