4wd awd and 4x4 are not the same. 4wd and awd usually mean the car always sends power to all wheels. 4x4 usually means that the car regularly uses rear wheel drive but you can engage also the front wheels, usually through a transfer case with high and low range.

Best solution is changed gears slowly from 5 th to 4 to 3 to 2 to 1st gear step wise... The car will slow down by itself

Idiotic. If you apply the handbrake the acting force applies to the rear axle adverse to your driving direction. Your car will not roll over. This "advice" lengthens your break way significantly putting you in potentially more danger.

Starting to downshift if you have a manual gearbox or use the sequential mode too could help. Never fully upgrade the handbrake as it is said.
