First Leica I really want. It looks like an incredible instrument. It may not be as capable tool as some of Sony's higher-end cameras, but it's still a huge improvement over previous Leica models.

Absolutely the best review I’ve seen, honest and balanced. Agree with all your comments. I have owned a x100f and xt3 for the past few years having moved from a canon 5d. I have enjoyed both. I recently upgraded the f to the vi, I would summarise. I like the vi it’s a great camera BUT It’s too expensive imho it’s a £1300 camera, that should include the weather sealing not £1700, moving production to china is a cost cutting measure, as is not including a battery charger. Even if you want one you can’t get it, Fuji is camera company who can’t supply your camera, they are more interested in creating demand, the v was all but unavailable for 4 years, this is exactly the same. Completely agree the battery and menus are atrocious Real world use, Increased megapixel does not = improved image quality. very disappointed in the ibis and autofocus, my hit rate is less than with the f. I am sick of Fuji they used to put customers first now I feel they are laughing at their customers and ultimately their inability to supply cameras will lead to their demise. I urge canon or Nikon to make their own x100 form factor addressing the short falls, when they do it will be the last Fuji I buy unless they start respecting customers. I disagree the weather sealing is not an attempt to increase profit, it’s a joke £100 extra for weather sealing 😂😂😂😂 as for production moving to china has not met demand all it’s done is reduce production costs, possibly reduce build quality, we will wait and see BUT definitely increasing profits. Fuji, your genuine customers are not stupid!!!

Leica feels a luxury product first, and incidentally a “professional” tool second. They would need to offer way more niche features, way more lenses, customisation, and something like that “Leica professional services” service like you mentioned. It’s really not good enough for wildlife and sports photography - which arguably are the most demanding when it comes to all the technical stuff and having specialised lenses. Sony Nikon and Canon have this area covered so well that I suppose this camera is more for all the slower stuff that don’t require super long lenses and insane speed.

Too many compromises with this body. Leica have a dilemma to deal with in their mirrorless lineup as I doubt sales are where they would want them to be. Drop the price a bit or keep it high to manage their branding and have it as a placeholder so they are visible as a player in the FF mirrorless market.

What’s your opinion on the 100-400? I’ve been considering buying one.

I sold my SL2s earlier this yr and was going to get SL3 but $7k changed my mind. Will probably get a used one two yrs from now or until Leica offers discount in a few yrs. I missed my SL2s but I really want an articulate screen and higher mega pixel so I can crop for sport and wildlife.

Skipping SL3 and M11. SL3-S and M12-S please : I can't help but feel the 60Mpixel sensor is just too much data, limiting the AF and burdening the processor frame rates as well as being worse for video. I can see the fit in your studio application and landscape photography, but for dynamic reportage Leica needs a complimentary model. Without the cost burden of the 60Mpixel sensor, running two bodies becomes manageable.

Gajan. I thoroughly enjoyed your SL3 video. I was lucky to get my SL3 and 100-400 on day one in March. I have nothing but praise for this camera. Same sensor as a7RV?

Just wanted to pop in to complement the Arctic (Antarctic?) photographs. Every one of them was simply stunning, with amazing colors and so much depth.

I am now debating whether I should continue investing in the SL mount or move to Nikon z8. I have the SL2s, and I love the colors, but as many know, the autofocus is from the 90s. Sadly, I found the SL3 lacking, and in some departments, it has even gotten worse. Yes, the image quality might be better, but that's about it. - The camera is slower than the SL2s in operation and shooting speed. - The autofocus for photos still lags; yes, it is a bit better than the SL2s, but only slightly improved and still lags far behind other brands. (I'm not sure about video; I don't shoot video.) Autofocus software implementation remains very basic... the Panasonic s5v2 gives you way more flexibility. - The new body size (a personal thing) is worse; they made it smaller but beefier, and now my pinky hangs out of the camera. It feels like the S1, like a little box. Not so convinced it's worth upgrading and it makes the z8 way more appealing. And if you factored in the price it makes even more difficult.... the sl2s was priced more reasanable.

The image quality can’t be better than the X100V because they both use the same lens. I expect the X100VI will get a better lens so it can resolve the sensor. Every generation of the X100 has to be improved. The obvious upgrade is the lens. Maybe the X100Vii body will be a little bigger for a bigger battery. I want IBIS so I will carry an extra battery or two. Who is going to purchase the X100VI to do video? It may do 6K but so what? Little shots? Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

So true what you said about "influencers" bashing on Leica without even owning one....then all haters jump on the bandwagon. Funny thing is the only people who complain about Leica price tags are those who can't/wont't buy one

The SL3 is not for me. In the past I could see a 601, SL2 or SL2s be an option. But in a world where I can buy a Nikon Z8 for 4500,- (4000,- with a rebate) the SL3 for almost 7000,- doesn't make sense to me. Yes, the APO crons are probably some of the best lenses in the world but the Nikon S primes are not that far behind either. And sure, the experience is nice but it's still a 5 year old Sony sensor and a first gen Lumix phase detection AF (and it shows). It's just so many downsides and not many redeeming qualities, sadly. And for me who also runs a Hasselblad system as the "refined" one, having a no compromise workhorse like the Z8 on the other side makes a lot of sense. Even the flash protocol is the matches.

Would love to see Leica implement focus confirmation for manual focus lenses similar to the way Nikon does. This is particularly relevant to Leica as there is a large fan base using their M mount lenses on the L mount cameras.

The Sigma I series or the Leica F2 series primes are very appealing just like the 1.8 primes of Nikon.. maybe it’s why I really like Fujifilm.. their WR 1.4 primes are essentially L quality F2 primes if you’re picking up what I’m putting down. I really look forward to seeing what LUMIX releases in the SL3 space. I think if I could be happy with a 24-105 type lens for my work I’d be happy to remain with Canon. Thank you for being realistic with your iso usage because we’ve definitely been sucked into believing our cameras will work wonderfully at 12,800 and it’s complete BS. I don’t know why you’re not at 100k yet; but until then I kind of like the exclusivity of being one of your long term subscribers.

Yo! "...a camera shaped pegged through an insecurity sized hole..."! I've never heard it said better! I do wish this had focus confirmation while manual focusing like the Z6III/Zf. With that said I haven't used one yet so focus peaking may be spot on. I'm thinking of adding to/switching from my M11. I rented the Q3 recently and loved it but want to try this out soon as well before I make a decision. Love the video!

I was looking forward to this video for quite some time. Glad you enjoyed your time with the SL3 and put it through it paces. One of the few CZcamsrs that actually uses the equipment for months before giving others his recommendation. I actually just got the SL3 this week and looking forward to putting it to good use. Starting off with the Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 before getting an actual SL lens from Leica. Along with pairing it with my Voightlander M mount lenses.

Nice vid and good advice. Nifty is usually in the context of budget and killer performance from what I’ve seen. Leica lenses are not budget really. I loved the 28mm but I’m all about that 35,50 and 85 now.. first vid I’ve seen on your channel, cool stuff!

The battery vs ibis - I totally disagree. I never saw it as a problem to travel with 4-5 batteries, charging all of them in a hotel room can be annoying, but really it’s fine. The ibis, however, is one of the features I was most excited by, because I love taking photos in low light situations

With a 60MP Bayer color sensor, nobody needs a dedicated monochrome camera. It's nonsense. The biggest advantage of a color filter array is not losing the color channels, so for BW photography, you can at any later time decide how to edit the color channels where as with a monochrome camera, you need to use physical color filters and once you do, it's baked into the file forever.

Ach I can’t believe the stock issues with this camera- I managed to get one on launch day in Scotland after foolishly selling my Q2 for it, after getting sucked in with the VI hype. I loved the V, and got sucked in and sold the Q2. Immediately I realised my error and after trying SO hard to love, actually even like it- I sold it two weeks later and ordered a Q3. So many issues with it, which you’ve highlighted. The fact that you can’t get it-STILL is ridiculous. And it’s not worth it when you do. If you do want an X100, get the V, or the F.

Nice review. If you consider the cost of inflation, this X100vi is actually cheaper than the X100v at launch. So in that context they added IBIS and a 40mp sensor and the inflation adjusted price to the consumer actually went down (if you can ever buy one that is😅). I appreciate that you used the camera for multiple months before giving your review on it.

I'm poor! Fixed income! Retired. I use older sensors CCD! Easy BW! Even if I had the money, I wouldn't buy a New Leica! My M3 is now 57 years in my use! Have M6,, Interesting video.
