@@buzzinbites8962 Being condescending doesn't make you correct. Nukes can be dismantled, governments can agree not to build them. We've agreed on conventions on war before and they've historically been exorcised. Many countries have also already signed to not construct more nukes and many countries, as you've stated, don't have them. Honestly, deterrence isn't even a good argument. A nuclear attack means environmental devastation, especially because many missiles may not even make it to their targets. It's the same as someone threatening, "I'm going to murder us both" only for the other to say, "not if I murder us both first".
@@onikiller815 the whole idea of deterrence is that they aren’t used. If we agree to dismantle then one bad apple builds one there’s no deterrent for them not to use them. The idea of having them is that they will never need to be used so it’s safer. It’s worked so far. The only time one was used was when only one country had it.

There's surveys and studies and the like that demonstrate an invasion of Japan would have cost a great deal more lives then just the 2 bombs which scared them into submission. That said I generally agree with his sentiment
Those surveys are missing the bigger picture. If they think the amount of people and money gone compares to the devastation that the overall damage that will be made from multiple nuclear weapons used, which will be forever irreversible, then they are completely wrong and messed up.

We don't design the AIs, we design the basic system yes, but the magic happens inside the neural network. The network is made up of numbers, but those numbers encode algorithms nobody put in there, they formed in a "hillclimbing" process similar to evolution by natural selection (but more efficient because it uses the gradient instead of just being a random walk).

Not only that, but AI is still a far way away from even average human intelligence. Sure these models have access to unfathomable amounts of data, but its honestly can’t do shit with it beyond parrot it back to you with just enough accuracy to be useful as a nicer interface for a search engine. I don’t trust it with anything more complicated than an excel spreadsheet, not because I fear it taking my job, but because I fear getting fired for its shitty quality of work
"Far away in capability" doesn't necesarily mean "far away in time". A few years ago if you asked AI experts "when will Winograd schemas be solved?" they said "decades, at least; we're nowhere near" and then we got LLMs, and now nobody even remembers that this was a thing. Same happened to Chess and then Go, and then some versions of the protein folding problem. The correct way to reason about this, is to write down a very clear and objective task you think an AI can't do in 5 years, and then wait to be proven wrong next year.
