    It looks very clean and high quality but i have some small concern about the paracord or fire striker coming loose.

    That’s an awesome pouch idea! Appreciate the inspiration ❤ Have you ever used waxed canvas for something similar? I’ve been thinking about hiring my leather guy to make me a hybrid day pack out of leather and either waxed canvas or 1000d cordura fabric. Just not sure about longevity.

      P.S, wouldn’t the altoids tins fit better in a pouch on the inside of of the larger one instead of the outside? I’d assume that would increase the structural integrity of the pouch. I read a comment here that suggests putting the ferro rod on the side of the pouch instead of the lid. I second that! Then you can put the knife vertical on the lid to prevent it from sticking out into someone’s gut lol. I’d probably just keep the para cord inside the main bag or find a way to lash it separately to the pouch. Overall. Awesome concept!

      Thanks for your comment, Yes I have used oilskin as well, (which is essentially waxed canvas) it wears well but I'm think leather looks a bit better and wears beautifully. Yeah I have made many different versions of this pouch over the years, with different placement of the tin pouches, firesteels, knife etc.. all have their pros and cons, like ease of access, streamlined design etc.. but ultimately I make what the customer wants in the configuration of their choice. That's the beauty of custom work you can make it however works and is viable 😃

    Very Pretty, Like the Idea, But when you actually need to use the bag the paracord will be loose, the Altoids cans will Probably fall out, the Lid will be in the way to access Bag, and Lifting lid will push the Knife/Ferro rod into your Side. I would Like to see the Knife Hid Behind bag able to pull from End, Ferro Rod Horizontal on Lid or Vertical along the Bags Edge off the back Leather, Snaps inside to fasten the lid to when Bag is Open so easy to put things in it, put it on the Inside of the Flap, as for the Paracord, have the lid Higher so to have a Loop that can hold Cord under it at top Arch & skip the Altoids can in this Pouch. The Problem with ONE large Pouch is weight in one spot on your belt still thxs for sharing, Im sure it can only get better.

      Hi Jeffrey, Thanks heaps for taking the time to give your feedback and ideas! definitely a few things to take on board and consider for future builds!. The one I use regularly is similar to this model and I stash the paracord and tins in the expandable pouch when I use it for gathering tinder or bush tucker etc it hasnt been an issue stashing them in there so far, but Im sure there would be better ways to do it! Also I havent had an issue with the firesteel and knife pushing into my side as the pouch unfolds out without having to lift it fully up and then the flap sits back down, but definitely will look at other options for positions as suggested! I think having the knife from the back side is a great idea. I also like your idea of having additional button snaps on the inside of the pouch would definitely make it tidier when expanded. I have made a model that has a clip underneath the expandable section that holds the paracord when not in use and acts as a dangler option as well. Thanks again for your feedback mate I really appreciate it. Have a good one!

      @dgalloway Před 7 lety

      I really like the knife tucked in the back side. I would also say that having a drawstring pull to cinch shut the bag would be a good thing and maybe consider some type of closure for the pouch for the tins so they don't fall out while the bag is expanded. All that said, this is beautiful craftsmanship and I very much like the look of both the pouch and the knife. Well done, sir!

    • @wildfiregear7182
      @wildfiregear7182 Před 7 lety

      Thanks for your comment David, Definitely a few things to improve on the next models! I include a length of leather cord to tie up the pouch if necessary, but a drawstring would be a good addition. also a closure for the tin pocket is a good idea. Thanks for your feedback David much appreciated! :)

      Cheers Spudd78! I find the one I made for myself very useful for gathering all sorts of stuff! Very versatile and I have multiple kits in tins I swap out depending on what I am doing. (First aid kit, Fishing kit, Fire kit,etc) Thanks for your comment.
