    I am so glad I found this documentary, I have wondered about Vivian and what life was really like for her. I never believed that other movie where she was so trashed and June Carter elevated to status of angel.

    I used to love cash but this is a sad story. I saw the news article that broke everything. She went to bail him out and I guess didn’t put herself enough together thus she was pictured looking black. I believe he knew she was mixed but after his fame she became a liability to his success

    Who cares what color Vivian was!!! True "strong, independent, women" don't need to brag like some do ... Vivian didn't! She didn't draw attention to herself like Johnny did, craving the spotlight. June couldn't sing worth beans! Vivian was a beautiful, selfless person and betrayed in so many ways. My heart went out to HER. She was a classy, lovely lady who was robbed of joy and happiness. Tired of hearing how great Johnny was. I didn't like the voices or music of either him or June.

    Lots of people say she was betrayed negatively in the film but I don't really see her being negatively treated in the film. She just didn't get a whole lot of screen time. The only "negative" scene I can remember is her being jealous over the fangirls he was getting and the fan mail. Any wife would be jealous over crazy women sending her husband fan mail and love letters! All of the other interactions, yes she's angry with him because he's already cheating on her at that point! And she knows it. If anything, I think Jennifer Goodwin made Vivian look stronger. Because according to the girls in this movie, Vivian spent all her time sobbing, smoking cigarettes, and starving yourself after she found out about June. And neglecting her kids! That's not very strong. This may be an unpopular opinion but I think Jennifer Goodwin did a decent job of making Vivian look human, and maybe just a little bit more relatable than the real Vivian. Jennifer Goodwin wasn't sobbing all day over her stupid husband. And when Jennifer Goodwin finally snapped and left him, I felt pity for her character. I didn't really feel like Vivian was a villain in the film, even though I thought the chemistry between Phoenix and Witherspoon was amazing. I just felt that she was a wife who married when she was immature, and she didn't count on Johnny Cash taking the path that he did. She was human in the film.

    Vivian's daughters are so much to blame. They ran to June and forgot there mother. $ kept them from there mother. What 60 years later talk about there mum . Hello.The daughters should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.and ashamed of there drug addict father. They weren't worth the money they got paid, and there songs also suck.

    Yet the poor woman had to go to court to lie about heritage. So Johnny could be famous. While walking the line movie continued to do her a disservice by portraying her as a white woman who was mean. That I saw in the UK. Shameless racism. 😢

    You girls are not anything like our family. I understand you all waited until your mom died because of money you all thought you all were going to get. Sad your dad only gave you all the minimum and left the rest to junes son. I would have done the documentary before my mom died. Just like my mother was protective towards us, we also were protective towards her. My dad had a mistress but we made sure he never left my mom for trash. Even when my mom passed we got power of attorney of our dad to make sure he stayed away from the trash. The trash lived longer than my parents but she died wanting my dad. Children protect parents just like parents protect us when we are little. Believe the trash thought she was going to win my dad but we made sure she didn’t. That is what good children do. No amount of money would have made me kiss anyone ass who hurt my mom. I am Latino just like your Italian mom. So no excuse for you all.

    I can summarize this movie in a few short sentences. They literally married after 2 months of spending actual time together, not counting the 3 years they spent long distance. They start having babies immediately and Johnny Cash starts pursuing the one thing that holds powerful interest for him, music. No surprise, he makes it big fast in part because of his personality, and Vivian is relegated to be at home with the babies while he goes away on tour. Anyone with sense can see the ending of this marriage a mile away, even if June had never come into the picture. People want to blame June, but that's not the real problem! Johnny and Vivian marrying when they were immature was the problem. Physically they were mature, emotionally they were fools.

    I really like this documentary with her daughters talking about their mum and her suffering. The saddest thing is she is portrayed as a woman forever loving a man and never getting over him despite him loving and marrying someone else. They wanted to show their mum was erased but they did the same by erasing Vivian's husband. As if he was just an accessory and not important...which means a life not worse mentioning, exactly what Jhonny did to Vivian.

    It’s as if Johnny allowed people to make him make him feel ashamed of him and Vivian’s relationship. Johnny was a WEAK man and should’ve picked the woman he loved over his career! Money and fame is not everything! June was a wench for messing with a married man! June couldn’t hold a candle next to Vivian! Vivian was breath taking!

      Love is love man. You obviously know nothing of what happened on Johnny's side. He got tired of a suburban wife. And he chased June, he said so. He wasn't afraid to admit he was the bad guy. Go head both versions before you take sides like a child

    I grew up in Ventura CA... I drive through Casitas Springs about 5 times a week on the way to Oak View... If you look up to the mountain you can still see their house up there on Nye Road. I've looked plenty over the years. But now, after see this movie, I look at it totally different. I was never a big Johnny Cash fan, in fact I'm more a fan of Roseanne Cash, but now that house stands for something lonely and sad, and Vivian is my hero now. This movie about her was phenomenal and I'm glad I learned more about her. It looked like her house with the indoor pool was super nice. On the hill above Ventura High School it looked like. Johnny Cash didn't do right by his family. Even in death, he didn't do right by his daughters either... I'm so sorry for what this class act woman went through❤❤❤

    A dignified woman. However, if she or even her daughters had taken a DNA test she would find she has African blood in her, that CANNOT be denied. The documentary commences with a little on her mother - an alcoholic who used to be 'knocked out' during the day. She may have had an affair and the family kept it a secret. Without a doubt Vivian has African blood in her veins... What a beautiful woman.

    It was good. Ms. VIVIAN has black ancestors. You can tell. They described their mother as exotic, looking with long thick hair. Pretty much black. The older she got the more she appeared to be a fair complexion black lady. She passed for sure. Her brother definitely looked light skin black.

  • @Jamie-ht5ec
    @Jamie-ht5ec Před 11 měsíci

    Clearly she was a beautiful multiracial woman that has some African ancestry. It's unfortunate that she felt the need to pass as white to live the life she wanted. It looks like Johnny caved to the rumors about her racial ambiguity and hid her away while distancing himself to save his career. His second wife represented what his fans thought his wife should look like even though she was unattractive.

    I suffer from a love like this. It has been 17 years since we have been together. Just last night I dreamt about him and if course like every other dream he always chooses the other women, always different scenarios but always the same message. My love is deceased. I can't imagine having the opportunity to reunite with him as Vivian got the chance to. Even at 44 now, no man will hold a Torch just like no torch was held to Johnny in Vivian's eyes.

    To anyone bashing June Carter, just remember, Vivian's second husband was also married when they started dating. I actually think it is worse cuz she knew the pain of being left for another woman and yet still did it to another woman whereas June could at least play ignorance. The Daughters very quickly went over that. With that said, this was a beautiful documentary.
