    I wouldn't be too discouraged by the low yield and the cost not being better than commercial ones. There are a ton of inefficiencies in your setup that I think would be easy to sort out. For one think I think you can get it to self siphon through the apparatus by positioning the ports such that it allows for thermal convection currents to form. Also if done in sunlight, the inlet could be fed through a long, coiled black pipe (like those DIY water heaters) to heat incoming air and require less voltage to make the plasma. For electrochemistry current determines the rate of the reactions, a transformer exchanges current for voltage so that may be in fact slowing you down. Personally I wouldn't push the voltage higher than the breakdown voltage and then just invest any extra watts into more current.

    These videos are cool for understanding how things work. I really appreciate the work that you do, and hope that you can be safe. Hopefully no one out there thinks a good idea to replicate the manufacturing of these substances without proper understanding in their dangerous properties, protection and especially understanding the decomposition over time. (Some substances just don't like shelf life)

    Your issue with low yeild of aminonitroguanidine is strange. I saw exactly the same method in another article where they optimized aminonitriguanidine yeilds and they get around 60% consistently. I repeated this procedure 2 times and get yeilds 50 and 59%. Also i treated the filtrate with additional hydrazine to get triaminoguanidine nitrate and get 30% yeild of it. So i got total yeild of useful products around 90%

    HI DBX Labs, Nice video and comparative demo of those sensitive compounds that can form unwished into labs while synthesizing stuffs. The fulminate anion is quite exceptional in nature if you deeply look at it; it was initially observed from mercury (Hg(II)) fulminate and afterwards with Ag(I) fulminate. The anion is C=N=O(-) and can be assimilated with a cyanide-N oxyde C#N->O (cyanate is totally unenergetic and stable but isomeric and with the oxygen onto the C what is already oxydized and thus not energetic ((-)-O-C#N) (isocyanate is (-)-N=C=O and related to urea). The trully interesting chemistry part comes from the fact it only forms into the cascade reaction from ethanol (CH3-CH2-OH) (a 2-C compound) (and probably from ethanal CH3-CH=O) but nothing happens from methanol (CH3-OH) what is still wel a C-1 compound, just like the fulminate or cyanate (or isocyanate). The fact it is related to N-oxyde is confirmed into many synthesis of furoxan or furazans that originates from dimerization reactions. Finally the chemistry behind is also quite estonishing, because there is a relation between nitromethane, its metal salts and fulminates; CH3-NO2 + NaOH --> CH2=N(O)-ONa + H2O It has been proven that mercury nitromethanate (Hg(-ON(=O)=CH2)2) turns spontaneously upon time (into Hg(fulminate)2). Hg(O-N(O)=CH2)2 --> Hg(O-N#C)2 + 2 H2O It is supposed that ethanol can pass to a 1-C compound via many "obscure" reactions involving simple reactions known to organic chemists (like me). From my understanding and readings and complilation of it; It passes via reactions from: a) oxydation of ethanol to ethanal by HNO3 b) reaction of NO2(+) or NO(+) with ethanal (alfa H of the carbonyl) is quite reactive to those as witnessed by the total uncompatibility of propanone with HNO3 (will runnaway fast into boiling flamable fluid with a lot of NxOy); NO usually forms HO-N=CH-CO-CH3 with aceton (propanon) what shows the lability of H atoms next to a carbonyl atom into an aldehyde or keton). This usually allows acces to gem-carbonyls glyoxal related (O=CH-CH=O). With HNO3 you get unstable oils with oxydations products, hydrolysis products, interreaction products, resonance of the double bonds, condensation reaction... HO-N=O <--> N=O(+) + OH(-) CH3-CO-CH3 + N=O(+) --> CH3-CO-CH2-N=O + H(+) H(+) + OH(-) <--> H2O CH3-CO-CH2-N=O <--> CH3-CO-CH=N-OH (methylglyoxal hemi-hydroxylamine) c) NO(+) is also reactive towards nitro-C compounds with an alfa-H by taking a H(+) from it to make nitroso-nitronate (a process that reminds a bit the one from propanon or aldehyds with an alfa-H) CH3-NO2 + HO-N=O --> O=N-CH2-NO2 + H2O O=N-CH2-NO2 <--> HO=N=CH-NO2 CH3-NO2 is often made via chloroacetic acid and nitrite thus making a nitroacetic acid (O2N-CH2-CO2H) or hydroxy-acetic acid (glycolic acid) nitrite (O=N-O-CH2-CO2H); and the EWG (electron withdrawing effect) of the NO2 group is so strong that nitroacetic acid fast decarboxylate into CH3-NO2 O2N-CH2-CO2H --> CH3-NO2 + CO2(g) The cascade of simple reactions is in total quite complex but somehow into the ethanol mix there must be some ethanal nitroso, nitro or nitroso-nitro compound to allow for in fine fulminic acid formation (H-C=N=O or HO-N=C) Keep on the good job.     small tip: you can either lift the mantis egg and put your phone flashlight (dark room) under it keep in mind if the egg is (just laid) you wont see any orange colors. the color will apear in 3-10 days if it turns slight orange it means its all good and the egg is healthy. this is how i raised my mantises sadly mantises arent around my erea! so i dont know that much more :)

    2:52 > it was widely used commercially Saddest thing: it wasn't. Birkeland-Eyde process was around for relatively short time, patented around 1900 and then Fritz Habor invented his own process and the only one plant with Birkeland-Eyde process that was built was shut down before the start of WW2. Nevertheless, I think it's a really cool process, maybe it was inefficient because the electricity back then wasn't cheap enough.

    Nuclear weapons use a fiber optic that delivers a q switched laser to this stuff. The laser is small and similar to the type used for rangefinders and tatoo removal machines. If you have a SSY-1 yag laser, that is very similar to the laser used. Also if you have super fine wire than nowhere near the high capacity is needed, 2 photoflash csps in series with a 3 terminal surge quench tube is enough to easily EBW a small lightbulb filament like a Christmas tree bulb

    You can get 100pcs packs of tiny light bulbs dirt cheap. Gently remove the tip with a mini grinder and pour in your favorite mix. The filament takes tiny current to heat

    Hello. This is an interesting substance. This interested me. But why is there so much smoke? Perhaps you did something wrong? If the oxygen balance is zero, then it should be practically smoke-free. I did a series of tests with a mixture of HMX 75% + ETH 25% and it gave very good blast with little smoke. I made very good holes in 2mm steel plates with additional shrapnel holes in the plates at some distance which was proof of high speed. But I used a press to compress the charge.

    If you put it on paper and then put that paper in a sealed box on one of the walls, then poke a hole on the other end you have a working camera, you would just need to wash the paper so it stops being reactive

    I have a young mantis and I noticed many very small, wire thin black worms attached to leaves on a living plant in its enclosure. The “worms” are attached to the leaves at one end of their body and hang off the leaf with the rest of their body, occasionally swaying or moving, but never moving from where there are secured to the leaf. Could these be parasites that the Mantis pooped out? The “worms” if they’re worms, are about 1/4 inch long, as thin as a hair, black, with a little round head.

    If you take a portable medical oxygen concentrator open it up and tap into where it vents the nitrogen you can get a better ratio in your arc chamber also making multi sealed chambers for the water gives greater time and surface area to extract the acid IE a tube too the bottom then a tube at the top of the first that then goes to the bottom of the second and so on.

      The internal gas pressure is limited by the vapor pressure of the gas (in this case chlorine). The vapor pressure is the pressure at which a gas will condense to a liquid of exceeded. Rising temperatures will increase this vapor pressure, allowing higher pressures to exist in the ampoule, but once enough liquid has evaporated to create an internal pressure equal to the vapor pressure, the system reaches a pressure equilibrium. The reason why the ampoule doesn’t explode at the room temperature vapor pressure of chlorine (about 7 atmospheres) is because the glass does a decent job handling this pressure without shattering.

      Back then I used whatever was the Amazon recommended epoxy resin which had a lot of problems with bubbles even after pulling partial vacuum.     I'm making a coil soon that will output 1,200joules just from 12v car battery no caps for a coilgun but it'll probably be more like a coil cannon at 10kg of wire 173 wires in parallel to equal 100amps input, theres no way a little coil can utilize 1,200 joules

    To protect the power SCR when using them in a coil gun circuit put a HV diode of the same voltage (or a 100 volts less) and amperage in reverse across the anode and cathode

    The best stuff for sealing which i use in electronics is a silicone glue used in crafts it doesn't use acetic acid to cure so is not corrosion.

    I made one last year. I left the negative lead of the multiplier accessible so I can ground it and have wild sparks come out of anything, even the walls and floor. Also a copper 3/4 end cap worked really well for the wand end. I ended up using 2 18650s in parrallel so I can use it for a while without charging it. Instead of the lighter circuit I used one of those cheap chinese hv transformers and made a little circuit out of 2 mosfets and 2 resistors to drive it.

    We had 2 oothecas hatch overnight. Id say there is 100+ in the big chameleon screen cage we have them in. How long before i should let most of them go? We just want to keep a few but want to raise them up to where they have a better shot at survival to help in our vegetable garden.

    You should put the beaker of water where the gas dissolved into an icebath or may be fridge because gases dissolve well at lower temperature and high pressure.

      I’ve seen an artist who makes them in mini form as pendants. Rope runs through the obvious arms. Would be cool to react something inside of it, or fill it with bromine

    I suggest based upon the burn marks, you get a longer torch or lighter
