With 25 hp this could have been a contender against the Ducati Diana and Mach 3.
THe best looking street tracker ive seen
Imperiale 125 gli montavo io
I want to include this Flat Track Museum in my video content.
Nice. I got the megaspere 95 and it's impressive.
Just picked up a 1967 YR1 only made in 1967 not 1977 as you mentioned, yours is a 1967, human error. Very nice though. But trying to find out how much gear/transmission oil to put in the gearbox? Can't find any information anywhere? I know the auto lube 2 stroke oil refill but not the gearbox. Any luck on reflll capacity? Much appreciated anyone? Thanks!
Steve is quite an interesting guy. Funny story how I met him I was working in Page Arizona early 2000s & caught a glimpse of a bultaco metralla riding around one day , finally managed to follow him to his house ,told him I liked his bike he told me the story of it. It was quite an unusual Bull showed me a couple others told him I had an Alpina 250 with Steve's bultaco sticker on it. He said that was his old shop
Saw Kenny Roberts on his 650 Yammer back in the 70's! It cooked!
Honda predates Yamaha's combined speedo/tacho by 7 years the CB72 had this arrangement on it's launch in 1960. The YR1 could have been a better performer however Yamaha held back on this one and did not utilise the 5 port transfer port system until the following year, the biggest plus for this engine is the horizontally split crankcases, the previous 250 models had been vertical's, which were a mechanics dream for any crank and gearbox work, and mounting the clutch on the gearbox shaft rather then the crankshaft. What I liked about the whole range of Yamaha 250/350's over the years was their genuine shared DNA with their racing bikes.
Honda k24 Pistons are like this
Legend
Had an YDS 3 back in 1968/69. Had a lot of fun with it.
Got me a XS650B waiting for some love. She has 7500 original miles but has obviously been laid down a couple of times. What is that fuel tank?
Great Greg thanks for explaining how Yamaha created the auto lube oil system and how the racing bikes took over retail trade that even still today. I had a RS125 and then a RD250 , I never lost the Yamaha grin after I rode my bike.
They didn't create auto lube, look at Scott motor cycles....this Yamaha uses at least 3-4 Scott patents. Triangle frame, kick start, chain drive, auto lube.
You cant display lic. Plate that low
"up until this time most were 750cc....."? No, don't be ridiculous. Rubber panels were there to keep debris from your knees from scratching the tank? Good Lord.
I have one his racing helmets that he won in.
The double-leading brake arrangement in the front wheel ensured that the leading ends of each of the two brake shoes engaged with the rotating hub, giving better stopping power than the single-action system where the leading end of one shoe, and the trailing end of the other shoe engaged the rotating hub.
Heavy metal machines brought me here.
Thanks for the video presentation of your bike, and congrats on being a 1% er lawyer to. Would love to see video footage of the yamahas going past the the rest of the flat tracker field. I assume you are referring to the 750cc class?
Little disappointed those beautiful motorcycles not to hear the sound..
You had me at "Good afternoon". Immediately, I knew I was listening to an intelligent person. Thank you.
Is this what they mean by "trailer queen"?
How the hell this has been on here for almost 10 years an im jus the 10 thumbs up i don't no but David certainly is a hero of mine on the track an even more off.what great human being
I bought a very low mile '67 YR1 way back in 1973 for 275.00 then in 1975 Bought a new RD350B. Planned on keeping the YR1 forever as loved the bike but a cousin rolled his car over and needed transportation so let him have it. Wanted another for past 40yrs but could never find the "right" bike. Recently I stumbled across a absolute mint unrestored bike original down to tires with very low miles from a 79 yr old gentleman that rode it away from dealer way back in 1967. Garage kept and well maintained since new. Not registered since mid 70's but always kept it in running condition.
One of my favorite races was the 1993 Daytona 200 when Eddie comes out of retirement for one final roadrace.
what are the tire sizes for the back and front ?
.. race bikes run 19' frt an rear
Just found this, your old Baja chase pilot from LAFD, those were great times, Mike L.
I am sure Eddie still rides a bike
Indeed he does! He rode with a group of us during a charity ride for wounded veterans in 2018. Eddie was on his exotic Gurney Alligator built by another legend, Dan Gurney. Lawson is now a spokesman for Giant bicycles, he enjoys riding their electric mountainbikes in Arizona.
Thanks for staying involved eddie. You are number one on my list of people to meet in this world. Even ahead of Harrison ford! I spent many Sunday’s glued to the tv watching you and cheering for you and I got as close as I could with an fzr 400 and the Shoei red dot helmet! Thank you!
Fast bike for the time,I have on 1937, nr 100mph!
Nice bike but original pipes were not flared on ends.
Could you tell me what size wheels those are I'm trying to build a xs650 street tracker thank you
We were fortunate to have had Eddie during our lifetimes. He’s a gentleman who is truly humble .. #21 AMA is #1.
GREAT bike in GREAT condition...well done..

Someone needs to get him to record super high quality vocals for whiplash so we can remaster it
Anybody know the seat height on these bikes?
where you get parts im flat out getting bits for my yds6c? help me please
David Bailey, what can you say about this man. I watched him race at the first Supercross I attended at Anaheim 1984. I was 12 years old. He was one of my motocross hero's. I remember hearing the news in January 1987 when he was seriously injured in the crash that changed his life. I have followed David over the years and I know he had many lows after his injury. He has been a huge inspiration to me personally over the last 30+ years. Thanks for never giving up Champ. Much RESPECT!!!
most triumphs where 500's and 650's back then
500 Tiger and 650 Bonneville.
Nice tracker
What a work of art.
Top Job ,great looking bike,
Beatiful machine, I´d like to have a replica.
Redline was formed on November 1 1970. redlinebicycles.com/history/ Lynn Kasten and Mike Konle (Redline) were working for Ray Hensley at Trackmaster... maybe even Sonicweld when Greg Owen says this frame was made. Virtually all the flat track frame guys jumped on the band wagon when the BMX craze hit in 75".
