Removing push-pin rivets (trim clips?) without special tools.
Probably better ways to do this without a special tool but it's what I had on hand. Small flat-head screwdriver and a thin wrench.

GoPro Snake Black Racer - strikes camera!

This beautiful Black Racer (no, it's not an Indigo), probably freshly-shed, as he is so glossy. The snakes strikes the camera even. Pretty cool.

(Silo falls at around 0:50. Two silos in our backyard being taken down in 2010. First one took a long time, trying to figure out how to do it. I went in the house for 10 seconds and missed it. The second one went much quicker. Here is the action. Chatpers 0:00 - Getting Started 0:40 - Ten seconds until it falls 0:50 - It finally falls!!! 0:60 - Dust settles

From Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder's show at the Ryman this summer. Ricky invited his wife and sister-in-law to sing a gospel song that will be out on their gospel album later (next year?) Sorry I didn't get it all....

And how to put it back?
Auto body shop owner, buy a tack puller from the hardware store. It has a screwdriver handle and a sharp V shape with an angle at the business end. Indispensable I've used this tool since those retainers first came on the market.
Umm, that is a “special tool.”
Ahhh, ignition wrenches. A lost item.
a bit of wd40 help a lot
genius. now why'd i think about that first?
Try a tack puller from local hardware store.
Exactly the info I was looking for. Thanx!
That got it done for me. Our 2013 Fusion is a little different, but your video roughed out the plan that I could figure the rest of the way through. Thanks! 🙂
good
How much for your wrench... I'll take it off your hands
Thanks, but there is a separate tool for removing it.
Pick up a narrow not too flexible a putty knife at a flea market garage sale or the bargain bin at the local hardware store and cut a V into the end of the blade
The same can be done more efficiently with a 10$ trim removal tool
An old pair of fingernail clippers with the handle and rivet removed works great, SUBBED 😎👍
That wrench was used back when we had points and condenser in distributor. Came in a kit
Or spend $3 at Harbor Freight for an actual trim removal kit.
I use a painter tool. The one with a bottle opener (go figure) on one end and the paint can opener on the other end. I keep one in the quad all the time. Its good for the clips and the plastic "door" to check the oil.
Geez, now you show me. I ruined one on my Lexus trying to pry it off. So I just took a small hand held torch and melted all of them off and then just replaced them with new ones.
Garbage that make it cheaper to build & impossible to repair
Cool Thank You. Will try next time. Have an Old Ignition Wrench set in the box that never see's daylight. Miss you Grandpa.....
When was the last time he cleaned all the dirt from the engine bay
Simple things like this show car manufacturers dont care .You can have best technology, electronics, engine, transmission, paintwork; if i see those plastic pieces of xxxx it cancel it all out
Your wrench is from an "ignition wrench set". I have a set that is very similar that came with my Dad's boat he bought in '62. If you put a partial bevel on the open end of the wrench (it will still work as a wrench), and a slight bend you won't need the screw driver. Or you can buy the right tool for $5 at Harbor freight if you are going to be doing this a lot.
I have the opposite issue. I try to install mudflaps on my car and it was a smooth sailing until the last one of the stupid things. I killed 30 minutes and it just does not go in and it made me so angry that I had to stop, otherwise I would break the clip or the bumper LOL.
That would be an ignition wrench. Good idea.
That little wrench is an ignition wrench for working on older vehicles.
Slick!
Swiss knife also works.
Ignition wrench.
That's a good tip 👍
Without tools proceeds to use tools haha
Just use the tool that's made to remove them😩
I bought a set of these trim tools the other day, there are about four or five of all different sizes: $23. Just in case you haven’t got an extraordinarily thin spanner. 😂
I have a 2019 Ridgeline, with 55,000 km. Went to the underside of the engine/transmission area, and had to remove plastic covers to get into the work area. I was familiar with the plastic “pins” on other vehicles so I went out and bought a set of plastic tools. Wrong… I ended up destroying 50% of the pins, because the “plunger” portion of the anchoring pin had become filled with road dirt and sand. I would have been better off, cutting them off with a side cutter and popped new pieces in (which I had to get anyway)! Come on Honda… I know you can do better.
Just use a fiber rubber trim removal toll, they come in a kit!
You made it look easy..thanks for your help. Saved me tons of frustration.
Or you could just use a fork.. might have to cut off a prong to fit properly, but easy peasy! Keep one in your toolbox dedicated for body clips.
A fork, why didn't I think of That? Ideal shape too I would think, thanks
Salute to your bravery
Hmmm....I got the "proper" tools, but now I know to best use them on those &&*^&*%( things........I might sharpen a wrench
I'm struggling with this BS right now under the car
Grind the wrench down on it's front edge so it is more wedge shaped. That will make it easier to get under the tab.
Those suck Nissan is the worst even with the tool the still break and fly everywhere
excelente truco saludos
actually you need to buy like 100 of them (not expensive, various kind in a set) and then you can force them out, cause either way, once used, they never hold so tight like in first pop
Agreed. $9 from Amazon got me a huge variety pack that included the pry tool
You've done a great service with this free "how to" video sir, thanks a ton. Takes time, $ and energy to produce a video like this 🤝
I'm wondering whether I can drill right into the middle of the clip and remove it. For some reason, the enter head was gone (I bought the car used) and I don't have a way to pull it out. Thank you
Great tip!
Thank you so much
Thank you
