Here on The Hillsdale Boys CZcams channel we metal detect the oldest field homesites we can find. We use our old township maps to locate homes that have long been gone and are just agricultural fields now. I so love the fields because years of plowing has kept the goodies from getting to deep, heck sometimes there right on the surface!!!! Our county and most of the surrounding counties first township maps date back to the 1850s. We choose these homesites then use later maps to determine there longevity. Believe it or not the likelihood of finding the real old coins and relics goes down drastically the longer the homes had life and were active. So making sure there gone by 1915 or 16 usually works the best . Using this method has put us on some of our oldest original pioneers homesites dating back to the 1830s !! We've gotten pretty good at it but don't take my word for it, swing in and have a look see for yourself ! Take care and HH đđ

On this week's episode, I studied the same old map and found that the long gone road I've been hunting goes quite a bit farther through the township. A few miles north, I found yet another stretch of the same long gone road with multiple houses on it with the same age ranges. Oh man, could I have turned right around and done it again ????? How do you find these old roads on farm fields? That and old homes. I use historical aerials but no luck

Hi John, your probably right. The soil down there has a lot of clay in it. Just gets worse the farther south you go. Poor Mike has it bad....
