My initial thought when I saw the challenge was with mixed feelings. But after I started, it immediately evolved to be fun. Pushing some more I could get into mid to high 51‘s I think. Maybe I will go for it again 👍

Hope you made it to Gold! It took me a good 2 hours session this time. I think it has to do with the new physics and more difficult trail braking. The car tends a lot to understeer when trying to brake late into corners. I had to go for very sensitive braking in the end compared to when I started in the first lap. What got me some time was to change ABS from normal to weak in the settings. 👍

@aubitube Yeah the new physics and im hoping for my sake, my 15 year old burnt out wheel 😆....I've never considered changing ABS. I'll see if it has any affect on me. 👍

@@aubitube I think only just attempting it when there was 3 hours left might not have helped. I just couldn’t get used to it in time. I hate that i got a silver so I have to redeem myself and get a 2% wr margin with the V6 Clio lol

Since I am on vacation I could not improve my time and just noticed that I got silver now since probably yesterday. So I feel with you. Really wanted to stay Gold.

RH / Racing hard tyres is a given spec you need to use. Mediums are not allowed in this challenge. Intermediates and Wets are allowed, but no sense in dry conditions.

I went for some laps again already and improved my time to Gold again at a 1:38,681. It remains the same brake points as is in the video guide. But thanks for the hint :-)

Since you need to brake from the wet part over the dry line into the wet again when going to the corner to use the better grip, there is no benefit shortly using the dry line, e.g. after T1 heading to the hairpin. Easier to just stay in the wet.

@@aubitube Just had an hour of drive. Couldn't manage MT shifting, and my best AT drive gives a sub-1:40. I should have a sub 1:39.5, but due to other commitments in life, I may have to let this sit where it now is. Currently, less than 1900 people out of the 56700 managed a gold. It's really really hard.

Yeah, agree. Currently the challenges are not as enjoyable… I am also afraid that my time will not be good enough to keep Gold. But I went out of time yesterday and could therefore not try to improve. And as the guide shows, there is room for improvement still :-)

If you have a 1:05 already and it sounds like you did not get the 1:59 corner right. Then that is the key in your case. We got 2 weeks for this challenge. Dont give up on day 3 :-)

@@aubitube i will go back to try for sure as I learned something from P2's drive too. But then on the other hand i also noticed that the ranking boards of the missions are reset, and went to try out the eco challenge, which i came out P2 worldwide for 2 challenges - at least for now. Just that i dont think anyone is interested in making a video of it on CZcams 😂 EDIT: I tried again, but still haven't grasped the car's control and that particular corner. I don't understand - both the car and the corner behaves to counterintuitive to me......

@@aubitube I made a small improvement at the Subaru to keep myself in a safe silver. Overall speaking, this is a strange car to drive - willing to turn at mid-speed, but very reluctant on low or high speed. The way it turns changes drastically as i adjust the speed and the 1:59 corner is still hard to predict. On the other hand, I squeezed back into gold for the other one with a okay safety margin. I do feel unpleasant if the developers keep giving us cars that require counterintuitive and unnatural driving in the future.

Reducing to 2nd or 1st gear when entering the corner will increase load change to the front so you get that little bit more grip to make the car turn instead of understeering. Due to the car having very high torque in low rpm already and for the fact of going downhill, you want to use a higher gear going out of the corners. If you maintain a sudden speed in the corner the car can easily handle the higher gear without too much performance loss. And it should be easier to handle due to lower risk of oversteering and in addition you do not loose time for gear shifting when accelerating to the next section.

Thanks for the comment. As I mentioned in the guide, I dont really like the track. But on the other hand, once I figured out how to take the corners to be more or less fast my mindset changed and I was eager to push more. Maybe if I review other peoples guides I could improve some more. But for sure it might be easier for me on a wheel. Why dont you use L2 / R2 for brakes and power?

@@aubitube Mainly skills level and time. Many people are saying that it's a matter of practice, but time isn't what I have in abundance - not just work but also these weekly time trials which I am determined to squeeze my best from. Tapping the X and square is still easier than using the triggers for me, let alone I would occasionally try to do the TT on manual shifting if circumstances demand or permits, such as the Eiger Nordward. Btw that one is a real pain compare to this one - I haven't watched any video guide on that one yet, but I was surprised that the car was so unwilling to turn / roll without braking at a low speed......

I understand your point. I also mainly got the time once in a week to do the time trials and guide videos for the channel. Eiger Nordwand is very different from Tokyo. Absolutely true, also was quite tough to me until I got a time that was OK from my POV. Was stuck at a time that was just slightly below the Gold border. Did not make me happy so I checked the recorded video of V. Gallo and changed some drive style of mine accordingly. Still tough to do cause those guys also use some handbrake actions in the first tight corners… On my wheel I may not reach that button in time to do so. Maybe that is an option easier to do for you on the pad…

One section, that is correct. But at least also possible in reverse. I was more confused that they converted the tunnel to the pit lane. Really liked the track back in the days of GT5 Prologue.

@aubitube absolutely, when i think GT5 Prologue this track immediately comes to mind!

But in general you are using manual shifting, do you? If so, it is just a matter of getting used to it. For example I also trained myself to not use TCS anymore. When starting to change habits, it is really strange and exhausting at first, but once you are getting used to it, it is nice to see improvements in laptimes 👍

@@aubitube yes i always use manual shifting. But my habit is to use the gears more for example in the first corner on this track i shift to second gear and then i give gas end then i shift to third. I still use TCS too but i have set it on 4.

Wow, TCS 4 is pretty restrictive. Maybe try lower and go to the accelerator pedal more sensitive. Should give you a time benfit with some practice on the long run.

I can absolutely comprehend your explanation. Also first got stuck in low 22‘s before getting to constant high 21‘s and Gold sector already. But due to not feeling safe I tried some more until I got to 21,6‘s and finally to the 21,450 to feel safe until the challenge ends 👍

Sounds familiar to me after that amount of playtime. Keep pushing and try some different lines in every lap.
