For centuries, the North Pole remained elusive. Early attempts to reach it were primarily motivated by the search for a navigable route through the Arctic to Asia, known as the Northwest Passage. Later, explorers focused specifically on reaching the Pole itself. But for centuries, reaching it seemed impossible. The polar environment was extremely unforgiving. Located in the middle of the Arctic Ocean, the North Pole is covered by a vast expanse of sea ice which constantly changes due to wind, ocean currents and seasonal melts. Explorers tried to reach the pole using ships, dogsleds, and even traveling by foot. The first verified, and officially recognized expedition to reach the North Pole didn’t occur until 1926 (although several explorers claimed to have reached it earlier). It was first reached using the airship Norge, which flew overhead, but did not land on the surface.
In the late 1920’s, accomplished explorer Sir Hubert Wilkins became convinced that a submarine would provide the ultimate means of reaching the North Pole. A submarine could travel for extended periods beneath the ice, avoiding the extreme hazards above which had caused earlier expeditions to fail. Carrying the latest scientific equipment, the submarine’s crew could conduct valuable meteorological, oceanographic, biological, magnetic, and spectrographic experiments.
Wilkin’s submarine would be called the Nautilus. It was a retired WW1-era submarine that had been extensively modified by renowned Naval Architect Simon Lake. The Nautilus featured a heavily reinforced bow, a shock absorber and sledge runners to protect it from collision with sea ice. A diving compartment and airlock was also added to allow divers to explore the depths while the submarine remained submerged. Most importantly, the Nautilus was fitted with three ice drills, allowing the submarine to recharge batteries, refresh air and even allow the crew to exit while the submarine still remained below the ice.
The Nautilus and her crew of 20 men began their expedition to the North Pole in June of 1931.
None of them realized how grueling their journey would be, and almost immediately things began to go wrong.

Nuclear powered ships built here in the United States have been proven to be the cleanest running, safest ships ever built by ANY NATION. The details are so stringent that there’s NEVER been an accident on a single nuclear powered American ship that was remotely related to the reactors onboard such vessels. Nuclear power should be used in ALL of our military ships, not just the carriers and submarines. For a time in the 1960’s that was actually the intent, with the last 4 nuclear powered Navy CGN’s being built by the Carter administration. Those ships are long gone now, having been decommissioned by President Bush (Senior) immediately following the first Gulf War. And sadly, the nuclear powered cruisers were the first to go, even though several hadn’t even been refueled once since their commissioning. Their decommissioning was poorly thought out by a Navy that wanted all their new ships to have the upcoming “stealth technology,” a technology that hasn’t even remotely proven itself to be viable on surface ships. Today’s ships should be powered by highly efficient, extremely robust, and long lasting nuclear power plants that can be removed from one ship when the rest of that ship is no longer viable, only to be placed back into another new vessel that’s currently under construction. The ships may only be viable for 20-25 years, but those nuclear power plants should be built to last 80 or more years so they could serve in more than one platform over the course of their lifespan. This would drastically cut down on the amount of dangerous materials left behind after the decommissioning of nuclear powered ships. This alone would exceed every other initiative currently being employed to clean up the atmosphere combined with.

This confirms that the Soviets were the first to advance technology, while the West was a race to diminish everything that was Soviet... The important thing is that the Concorde ended in a horrific fall in the end, as the comfort and luxury it provided over its Tupolev counterpart did not help it save the lives that burned inside it.

this inflatable plane was and still is in my opinion a brilliant idea because the meaning of the whole is to bring the pilot to safety and not to engage in hostilities with the enemy in the frontlines so it is a mistake that this concept have been abandoned . Also it would be a great tool for non armed roles in a future conflict . Example: covert ops , logistics , rescue , operating behind enemy lines etc.

And if in the future or allready now even exists, will be developed a even better material then airmat the results will be worth the effort.

Nuclear energy is the future, whether it’s fusion or fission. You can’t get solar panels to power a 747 and you can’t get wind turbines to do it either. Our elites don’t want to progress society only regress it, sad. We will need new leaders who care about people and progress for the sake of long term prosperity. Not making themselves more powerful for the sake of control.

since there was 2 likely possibilities for the lost cruiser, First would be buried. well at some point if the cruiser is buried then maybe at some point it will show its sign of Orange? Second, If it did split off and took a trip on a broken ice disc then at some point it would travel to a warmer part and slowly start melting and the Cruiser would be left under water in a warmer climate. Obviously water is colder the further down but the Cruiser experiencing warmer temps before sinking to the bottom of somewhere. Basically i read the comments and thought to myself well the time capsule of this beauty would not be preserved. of course overtime the vehicle will be eaten away and damaged by pressures. Everyone's guess is Valid. but i love the fact everyone is curious and has the same ideas and feeling for this lost cruiser is insane. What a magnificent design could have went a long way in the past century yet was abandoned due to problems in the world. We can only hope it will be found and if not then at least we will get to enjoy a piece of history in our memories

A lot of the problems in vietnam weren't even aircraft related... It was politicians demanding that *all* airplanes attack along a very obvious corridor allowing the enemy to amass all their AA assets, allowing the enemy planes to know where to intercept. It also involved politicians being afraid of americans shooting down americans, which limited engagement rules to visual confirmation first, effectively turning a sniper rifle into a knife fight when it wasn't designed to be in a knife fight. Everything else on the video is good though.
