Amazing!
Thanks!
Was the App constantly throwing you out or was it you just getting used to it? Great video... the next will need to be the S50 v DL2 v DL3😅
The problem of disconnects was in the old tablet. I switched tablets, and everything worked well.
I love what I’m seeing here. But I’ve got a limited retirement budget. So I’m holding out for the Seestar 130mm or 180? I’ve gotten aperture fever.
I hear you!
I’ve always wanted to get a telescope. I know there’s a steep learning curve and the hobby can be expensive. I say that out of the gate because those two things are what people in comments elsewhere have said to discourage me from picking up the hobby. I knew those things before other people decided I was too stupid to be able to pick up the hobby. People have been really mean about it when I’ve asked questions on other channels. I love space science and physics. I’ve been looking at smart telescopes for a bit because I’m a beginner. This telescope looks easy to use and takes great photos. When my significant other gets his bonus check next month, I will likely buy a Dwarf 3. It’s cool to see it in use.
I will be glad to answer your questions. You can get $10 off if you order DWARF 3 through my link.
Greetings
Good to see you.

@@jayceasar2661 Hi Jay😊
👍
Iceland Calling, This is very exciting, I look forward to weekend streams!!
So far, so good. I have been pleasently surprised by image quality.
Was it great fun to use? 😊
Yes it was! Quite a few subtle differences between Happy and Grumpy.
@@PompeyObservatoryGood haha! I agree with the names😆😄🧐
😊
Maybe ill choose sneezy 👍
👍
THAT was M42 with only 1 stack???? That is better than (my) D2 after 25 stacks 😅 Gain 120, are you in a really dark place or is the D3 just able to do higher gains? 120 would be too bright for the small city I’m in. Interesting first lights dr J. 👍
Gain 120 is the default for Calibration,
So Happy for you receiving your Dwarf III Happy! Very relieved they didn't dismantle it before it got to you.... very important ... I am looking forward to your absolutely fantastic streams of whats going up there, that we would ordinarily not be able to see without your joy and enthusiam providing it for us all the time!! Thank you Dr. J !! 🦌
Thanks for joining our group. More fun ahead.
How can we use EQ Mode?!
Mount the telescope on a wedge so it points to the North Celestial Pole, then select EQ mode for imaging. The telescope will track along RA only, eliminating field rotation in the final stacked image.
Ah OK - so it is not really EQ?!
The telescope is equatorially mounted and it tracks targets along one axis only. That is EQ by definition.
Congrats Dr. J on your new scope. Will be watching your experience with it.
Check out the First Light video
Hello, I wonder why that little turning wheel in the application - indicating Dwarf 2/3 is busy searching for (doing) something - still (after so many updates!) partially covers messages on screen. These messages are certainly standardized and would soon be learned by heart, but why they (still!) allowed the overlap is beyond me. Thanks!
Sorry Emanoil. I am engineer - I concern myself with the "what". I defer the "why" to scientists and philosophers.
@@PompeyObservatory I was referring to situations such as the one at 22:54 in this video. I contacted them myself to inquire about it. Thanks again.
👍
@@PompeyObservatory Indeed, unfortunately for me, I obviously prefer your conversation. Thanks.
Great news
So far so good.
Did the bag that it came with have a strong smell to it? I remember the Dwarf 2 packaging was nasty smelling IMO.
No, nothing smelled weird.
Hey dr J. Congrats on your new arrival !! I hear you say ND100.000 filter instead of ND1.000.000? Normally I use 1/400 for the D2. I guess we need even shorter times then for the D3? Okay, watching the rest now :) The D3 is 210 grams heavier, not a whole kilogram like you said at the end. But good to check if your mount can handle that extra weight. And I already use the new app, a beta version I believe (V2.30 B12). Which version are you using for your D2?
Good morning Peter. Yes, I misspoke - it is only 210 grams heavier. I plan to test solar mode this morning. Sue sent me a beta app for D3 - the previous beta apps did not detect d3.
Okay, will check if I can download that new version too. By the way, the D3 came sealed. I keep my D2 in that seal when not in use to prevent dust from entering in any way. Will do the same with the D3. We don’t want dust on the inside of our Dwarfs 👍
Thanks for the tip.
Iceland Calling, Congrats!! Bark Bark :)
Thanks. Stay tuned for first light.
Good to see that slowly but surely more and more people are getting their Dwarf 3 telescopes. Honestly so excited for mine to ship out eventually, I just hope the app is ready by the time i receive it.
It has been a fun telescope so far.
Hello, I'm trying to understand what this ”Equatorial Mode” for Seestar is. My understanding was, Seestar cannot operate like that, because it requires horizontality ... I also don't recall seeing such an option from its software. Is then this ”Equatorial mode” simply aligning the vertical/azimuth axis of Seestar with the North Pole ? If not, then I can't tell what it is, nor how it could be achieved. Thanks.
I mounted Seestar on a wedge, and pointed it to the North Celestial Pole. Upon horizon calibration, Seestar recognized its inclination. From there, it found the targets that were in its half of the universe, and was able to track them along RA without creating field rotation. In that sense, it worked exactly as any equatorially mounted scope.
That's so cool you caught him coming down the driveway. Beautiful house & scenery😊🌲🌼🐕Yeah on your Dwarf III!!🎈🎉🍾Maybe they just xrayed it??🙄
The dogs heard him stopping at the road and alerted the entire neighborhood.

ok, now i'm just jealous.

Glad to see DHL was a few places today....so of course clouds here. Hope you have better skies. NY Customs must be more strict than FL customs.

😁
Looks like you were on a long time last night. Glad you had the Lawrence Welk group up😁
some things worked, some did not. It was a fun night.
My dwarf 2 unit recently has star tracking issue - stars drift to the left of the screen every like 20 seconds, but it has never happened before and I could get great results of deep sky objects before. Do you know what might be causing this?
I have not seen this issue before. You may try posting in the DWARF facebook group or emailing DWARFLAB. Good luck.
😊
😊
I vote for Bashful
👍
Do you notice any improvement in sharpness when using EQ mode for S50 and Dwarf II? Because than the device (Dwarf II) is actually only moving around the base (so no movement by the lens then)?
Both Seestar and DWARF tracked poorly the Sun in eq mode. DWARF did well with DSO in eq mode - no field rotation. I plan to test Seestar on DSO in eq mode in the next couple of days.
Great news dr J. How is the weather for the night of september 11 and 12 😂 ⭐️🌟💫

I also vote for Happy and maybe name the old Dwarf II Grumpy! 😂

Good morning. My vote is Happy 😁

So what should i order 🙃 , dwarf 3 or seestar s50? Well there is no seller for dwarf 3 in my country sadly and importing it would cost me lot more but i can order it via relative from usa :) , so should i purchase a dwarf 3 only or seestar s50 ?
I have not tested the DWARF III yet. The choice between Seestar S50 and DWARF depends on your needs - DWARF has a wider field of view and two cameras, but Seestar packs more pixels per arcsec. Both are good telescopes. Seestar has wider aperture, but DWARF has more resolution.
@@PompeyObservatory like i just wanna use it for great astrophotography results (only dso) , i have my reflector for planets so bored with them and i never imaged or saw any dso (except orion and pacman nebula) from any telescope yet , can count me beginner 😅, well i think dwarf 3 have better battery life and great portability too so it attracts me towards itself

collimate the scope, image when target is at high altitude (out of atmospheric dispersion), focus, take high-speed video, stack best 10% of frames, apply minimal post-processing (noise reduction, contrast improvement). See short tutorial at czcams.com/video/yPtAaGIiSf0/video.htmlsi=64F2wwcAqgD6igj-

Very nice comparison! I’m on the fence about Dwarf III versus Seestar. I have really enjoyed Dwarf II. It nicely complements my EvScope for DSOs that need a larger field of view. Still, I have been impressed by the image quality with Seestar.
I expect my DWARF III to arrive in the next few days. Stay tuned for side-by-side-by-side-by-side comparisons among DWARF II, DWARF III, Seestar and Stellina.
Thanks for doing the math on this. Power in the field is a critical part of this hobby. For many years, my solution has been a 17 amp hour lead acid car jumper battery. It would run my AVX/computer for a couple of hour with no worries. Having the ability to help out others was a big plus, too. The SS has solved all my field power needs.
I am preparing for the eventual move into a new off-the-grid home for the observatory.
Nice tour of the batteries & generators thanks😊🌠🔋🔌
