    my clutch is behaving the same way on my 99 VL1500 intruder. (engaging almost at full extension) did you ever happen to nail down the cause of this. I recently changed the fluid and it didn't have an effect on it either still the same. I just ordered the clutch bolts and springs since I had replaced one a while back without doing the other four due to just not having the money at the time. so figured if you had any input I'll have that side of the case open and could use any further advice you may have.

      @Timberns Před 9 dny

      @@austin508 It turns out… That’s just the nature of the beast. That’s the way they intended and the way it’s supposed to be. All my friction disks and steel plates were in good shape. It takes a little getting used to when you’re accustomed to clutches that engage sooner. I got to just using 2 fingers so I could still hang onto the bike with the other two. It’s kind of a narrow range but you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid to go practice riding slow speeds in the friction zone to get used to it since it’s different than what most others are… You definitely don’t want to drop that heavy son of a bitch on yourself😂 I love the bike but I actually had to practice with it and get used to that clutch even though I’ve been riding all my life. I don’t think spending any time or money on that clutch issue will change anything. Just get in the wind👍

Then after an hour I come to the comment to find out that’s just how it’s gonna be 😂 I rode sports bikes and haven’t ridden in 10 years. I picked this thing up and was like this is nooooot right lol. So how do I know when it’s time to replace friction plates? When it starts popping out of gear?

      @@jamesreynolds1605 You’ll know it’s time to replace the friction disks if the clutch starts slipping but that clutch is pretty stout and I’ve had no problems with it.

    Apparently- Tim does not know how to edit video - this could have been 8 minutes tops: instead we watched six minutes of this video prying the case apart and in part two he's got loud music on the background that interferes with his video. 10 years ago this was commonplace in CZcams "I just get a camera and I make me some video" not so much anymore sir, stop wasting people's time!

    I just came across this and I’m not sure if this is the funniest thing I’ve seen today or it’s the most genius! Maybe it’s both! I live in the country where a few families have commercial farms that plant with huge commercial machines. But the vast majority have some little and some pretty decent sized ones that could feed a small army. I have no idea why no one else has ever thought of this. You might wanna delete this video and patent that. Then improve whatever needs improving like a cushy grip on the bar😂 and anything else you can think of but you gotta make it shiny so it’ll catch folks eyes. This is the poor man’s plow! All you need is a riding mower. I mean who wants to stand behind and run a tiller. It’ll wear you out! Now you don’t have to! And you don’t need an expensive tractor either. Just do it the easy way with your plow mower! I love seeing anyone using their brain so they can work smarter not harder. And so many things truly amaze me why I didn’t think of that. 😂 I am impressed.

    Nice idea, but when I tried exactly this approach, the steel rod failed to have enough traction on the tire to pull itself around the rim. Maybe a wooden dowel would be better? I ended up using heavy-duty zip ties to hold the tire on (not string) as I pried it onto the wheel with a steel tire-iron. Not easy, but it works. I just needed three zip ties to do the deed. The upper wheel I simply removed and clamped in in my bench vise to run the tire iron & zip ties around it. Takes some muscle, but it works.

    I'm sure this works but not on a 18" Jet re-saw band saw with 1 1/2" wide tires 53" 1 1/2". The example shown is a 14" Craftsman band saw, the Jet tire runs in a recessed grove on the wheel. The tension on the wide tire just requires so much pressure that the washer was going to chew up the tire. Still got it on with 3 hands, some 4" wood clamps, pry bar, a wedge to keep the wheel from turning. Start by clamping at the top and work the tire as far as you can with 2/3 on the wheel in both directions and clamp. Use a pry bar to stretch and slowly work the tire on the wheel on both sides moving a second set of clamps as you go. Using a thin blade screw driver to get the final section onto the wheel. The tire came with a little tool that you can run around the wheel to seat and center the tire. Did soak the tire in hot water, made it a little more pliable but not by much. When I have to replace my Craftsman 14" tires I'm sure this technique will work.

    O66 had changes done to the crank, flywheel & case. Just an upgrade & a different cylinder size. Notorious for the size change. Some saws had as many as 3 different sizes. As for the 36" bar they were rated for a 32". Not to say it wouldn't pull it but for longevity. Both models had air filter leakage. Run 'em in the woods, grab a 55 gallon barrel of fuel, you'll need it!

    My pulley on my blade wheel (not the motor pulley) works itself loose and comes off. I have re-positioned it and tightened the set screw several times, but in a few minutes of using it, it works loose again. Someone suggested I coat the set screw and keyway with JB Weld. What would you do about this problem? Thank you.

    • @Timberns
      @Timberns Před 10 měsíci

      I’d try some blue thread locker and snug it good before I did anything drastic

    • @Timberns
      @Timberns Před 10 měsíci

      And make sure your square keyway key is in good shape when you tighten the set screw down on it. Some pulleys have two set screws… You might try that before you make that a permanent fixture with JB Weld. You could also drill and tap another set screw on your pulley if you’re crafty.

    • @Timberns
      @Timberns Před 10 měsíci

      And check the alignment on the electric motor… Make sure it’s driving the belt towards the saw and not away. You almost don’t need the set screw if it’s driving the pulley on instead of off.

    Thank you sir! I used spring clamps instead of string but it worked just as you showed. Took a few times of moving the spring clamps up the line as I went but it was a painless procedure. My old rubber tires were glued down with contact cement and took a half an hour each with acetone and a scraper to get them clean. I had to remove them from the saw with a puller to be able to work on them properly. If I have to replace my new urethane tires the procedure will take about five minutes thanks to you.
