"Now you must acquire a taste for...freeform jazz."
bravo . wonderful solos ms MARSALIS and M. Print up.
the fact that there is one person, in the brackground singing (turututurutu) the bass lines is gourgeous
What I'd GIVE, to hear THE MOOCHE live like this.
how the sax section, especially 2nd alto bend and subtlety shape the background phrase at 0:35 is immaculate
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That phat bari tone 😮
My favorite recording of this song, the runs are so clean and it sounds way more like 2 people arguing! Props to the soloists!
Interesting that this has a more Louisiana Bayou character to it than the original.
how blessed are we ? words will not suffice . draws so deep in my soul
❤
so awesome! Love Kenny Ramptons sound wow
did sherman irby play baritone on this concert? notice he has one near by
I do believe this is a Carlos Enriquez (bass) arrangement. Pretty darn badass.
😊
Stanky face stanky Heart even
This was great! It is a little misleading but that's just so you know its references. The fact it's not some transcription but like a love letter towards the original is awesome. That's how I hear it anyway. (Also the fact they made it almost all winds and took out the importance of piano is a pretty cool)

On this specific concerto, are there more songs with latin flavor?
I feel this music coming inside of me
Love this! Dillard kids do a great job at a hotter tempo too (their trombone section had much better timing than the pros in the weird and wonderful chorus after the opening trumpet bit) but you can't put Wynton in the corner!
Wonderful !
The boss guts that trumpet while the others nod at his discourse.
Excellent performance and arrangement. However, does the video director have access to THE SCORE? Using a wide shot to cover a lack of 'iso-cams' doesn't leave much room for, say, the clarinet solo by Victor Goines @ 4: 12 mark . . . . oh, there he is on yet another wide shot. Where's the close-up? It's not good video practice to miss the beginnings of various solos, such as the bari solo @ 4:34 mark . . . Where's your SCORE? But, I DO love the expanded orchestra . . . though, none of the extra players seem to have their instruments with them. Lush audio !! Lighting is great !
This orchestra, under Wynton’s direction, has single-handedly kept this traditional black art form alive in America, it couldn’t be in better hands. Kudos and heartfelt appreciation are also due the fabulous musicians who lend their virtuosity and love of this music to those of us who love jazz music and it’s place in our history and hearts.
I wish I could hear this guy play with Oscar Peterson.
This is from the concert "Spritual Sounds and the Jazz Age" during Jan 10-12. Here are some differences from the recording in the 2016 concert (czcams.com/video/nwGEWCXJ2jg/video.html): -Intro from the drummer is notably shorter -Trombones (Chris Crenshaw & Elliot Mason) now using straight mutes in the first A section, one trumpet (Wynton Marsalis) plays with them now, with a straight mute as well. -Instead of Wynton soloing, all trumpets trading for 80 bars with different mutes (Ryan Kisor doesn't use one though) -Carlos Henriquez(bass) bowing the bassline with Vincent Gardner(tuba) after the trumpet trading section -No brass plungers on the last B section - Ryan Kisor and Dan Nimmer are back (Shareef Clayton and Adam Birnbaum are playing in the 2016 recording) -Dan Block sitting in for Ted Nash and taking the soprano solo that guest John Irabagon took in 2016 -Camille Thurman sitting in for Walter Blanding -Willie Jones III sitting in for Obed Calvaire (Ali Jackson played it in 2016). -Lastly the recording quality is definitely better (I can hear solo cues from the brass sections in the soprano solo that I couldn't before.)👏🏽
to be precise, ryan kisor plays on a cornet for the solos rather than a trumpet
This is wonderful. Unlike the usual orchestral arrangements we usually hear, this version actually swings!
That's cause this is Duke Ellington's composition of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
5:13
Fabulous job!!!
Bud Powell composition with no piano solo - ??
thats fuckin handmade i luv it gents
Мне очень понравилось
As a trumpet player, the Kisor was amazing but jesus was that tenor solo so amazing. Her sound is sooo buttery and velvety and every adjective.
Wynton is the only one getting a chance to brag here!
But he doesn’t play anything original
@@jwmc41what do you mean by that
Dayum ... 🔥
This is soooo sick, I just can't ... WOW
Honestly this just makes the Dillard Center version that much more impressive for a High School band to pull this off.
Amazing arrangement!!!

Awesome Rendition!!!!!🤩👍🏽
I just Love This Peace!!!!!! So Calm, Soothing 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽Paul Is @ The Top Of His Game!!!!!
Carlos’ Bass 👍🏽Adds His Amazing Touches
Damn - great solos from the low end o’ the band! I’ve never heard a bass player cop the saxophone soul shake (5:56) before and he nailed it! Looks like Wynton dug it too.
What a beautiful Piece 😍!!
When Walter Blanding and Sherman Irby approve of Paul Nedzela's Baritone Sax Solo, in "Search for Peace" it has to be Great 😃
