If rhe wheels be turning prior to contact, there'd be less loss of rubber. These tires are damn expensive.

I remember reading somewhere that they could drastically reduce tire wear if each wheel was spun up to speed just before touchdown. I think the reason against this was the added cost and complexity of motors to do the work exceeded the savings of less frequent tire replacement. Anybody know if there's truth to this?
