How I tell the notes
If you transpose a C major scale up a half step it becomes C# D# E# F# G# A# B# C#. You need to keep track, after a few weeks this is easy to do. Well worth the time.

I am very intrigued by the "NuRAD" EWI..., due to its overall degree of control as well as its ergonomics...THAT said, when I have attempted to inquire regarding available "software"(?), i.e. acoustic instrument wave tables/synthesized emulations, etc., I have been directed to consider one of the "AKAI" EWI's instead, and this is from a distributor of a broad variety of EWI's, INCLUDING the "NuRad's", and software to go with the EWI's... If I am looking at a "NuRAD" to generate really "good" emulations of acoustic instruments, am I looking in the wrong direction...?...or, if that software DOES exist, where should I search...?... I avidly look forward your response(s), and welcome any/all suggestions/advice. Thank you in advance!... Sincerely, T.A.K. P.S. I play the entire family of modern and Baroque/style recorders, and currently play into a microphone that sends that signal through an "guitar-style" pedal board to an amplifier...and would love the option of plugging a EWI into my direct box , enjoy a new "universe" of sounds/timbres, and circumvent the challenges presented by a microphone...

The CME WIDI Master is another excellent solution.
I've never had a chance to try it. The Midibeam is onboard on the NuRAD.
2 questions. Can we do all 12 scales without the transpose key? Is there a fingering more akin to clarinet?
I don't understand the question completely. So, if I don't answer exactly what you asking. Please ask again. 1. There is a transposition feature in the EWI programming where you can set the key for it's transposition. Examples: Concert Key, Eb like Alto Sax, Bb like clarinet. And Yes, you can set it for any key. However, you can't change the setting while playing. 2. some fingerings are the same as Clarinet, and most of the upper octave is exactly the same. Inside the EWI DEN are some documents entitled "Home Fingerings," and one of them is the "Home Fingerings for Clarinet." It will illustrate the fingering common with the clarinet when the EWI set to EWI STANDARD FINGERINGS. I hope this was helpful.
@ewi_den it does answer my question and I thank you for the video and the response.
Great! Thank you!@@KDrizzz
It's funny half of the points you give to NuRAD I would give to the EWI. But then again I've never tried the NuRAD so I guess it's not fair for me to opine.

Loving the new material 😸❤️
Thank you. I hope it is helpful.
WOW 😳, so much information. Thanks for the answer.
You bet!
Why the circle of 4ths 🤔
That is a great question! I'll do a video about it. The answer is important and a bit lengthy. The short answer is that Keys and chord roots moving in fourths are Western music's most common harmonic movement. If we practice our scales in the circle of fourths, we are getting prepared for that movement. Example: D-7 / / / G7 / / / C∆7 / / / | / / / /|| This is a 2 5 1 the most common chord progression in Jazz Standards. Notice the Roots are in 4ths D - G - C. Hope that is helpful!
New to ewis, this is super helpful, thanks!

Happy New Year, John! Thank you so much, appreciate your support so much!!
Can i blow it like a recorder? Or does it need special lip blowing technique like a sax?
Yes, no embouchure required. Just like recorder.
Closed breath system? Now I need to google this. I thought all EWI were all breath. I just assumed.
It means the air doesn’t flow through the instrument. It still operates on air pressure blown into the instrument. Important technique is to leak air on the sides of your embouchure to facilitate the response of tonguing. It’s is a great system, and becomes comfortable quickly.
Inspiring! I think I know what my next project will be...
Thank you. What’s the next project?

I was looking at the different modes for the NuEVI and I had three question 1. What is the cv model 2. What is LiPo 3. What is the ball bearing canister
CV = Control Voltage - used to control synths. CV indicates which note (event) to play: a different voltage for each key pressed; those voltages are typically connected to one or more oscillators, thus producing the required pitches. Such a method implies that the synthesizer is monophonic. LiPO is a Lithium Battery. The Ball Bearing Canister is a smooth octave mechanism for the NuEVI.
how do you get such clean articulation on the nurad? i just got mine and tonguing just doesn't do anything it seems
Thank you. A lot has to do with allowing air to leak from the sides of your embouchure, which is the proper technique for a closed-air system of the NuRAD. I actually tongue behind my front teeth. Like saying a T or D sound. If you need some help, email me at curtsipe@me.com and we can arrange a meeting.
What synth did you use with the NURAD
EVI-NER by Davidson Carpenter. It's a soft synth, $15.00 available at : www.davidsonaudioandmultimedia.com/products/evi-ner
I thought it was going to take 2 years, but I made it into the queue after 2 weeks. Really excited.
That is awesome! Reach out again when it arrives!!
I had an EWI5000 before had an EWI1000, then EWI3000. It does suprised me that closed system on 1000 is much more responsive and expressive than open system once you get used to it! EWI modules actually had the chord rotator before 4000s btw, including 1000, though it can only be used when controlling via midi not internal sound, only if you get a very rare and expensive combo with AKAI AX600 (a keyboard synth with an EWI1000 controller jack), the midi rotator gets easier to program and could be used for internal sound. One thing I realy loved a lot on modules before 4000s is the external input, a genius design that never showed in any other windsynths. It's a shame that AKAI didn't keep those wonderful features and turned into cheesy sampled sound and lagy bluetooth on newer modules😢 NuRad defintely is much better on performance, but 1000 and 3000 still have the most special EWI sound to me.
Thank you! Great information!
I received my NURAD about 3 weeks ago and because I've had my EWI-USB and EWI-4000s using Bite CC2 for vibrato, so I tried to use the NURAD the same way. However with both the samplemodeling and the SWAM I fail to get any CC2 output, hence no vibrato. I've gone over the settings and I'm sure that I have the vibrato set correctly to Bite etc. My EWI's work fine doing Bite CC2 vibrato. Nor can I use the left hand Thumb lever to get CC2 sent out, although I can just hear a bit of vibrato, even though I do not see any of the dials (samplemodeling & SWAM) showing input. When using Kontakt I can see the Mod Wheel icon moving. Today I discovered that I can get some vibrato by setting the NURAD Bite to Aftertouch. Things sound much better but I have no clear control over it. So, my question for you is: Do you have any suggestions for fixing the Bite/ Thumb Lever CC2 issue? Am I missing something ? Does your NURAD produce proper CC2 messages? Unfortunately, Larry Nybo has not replied to any of my e-mail in over 2 weeks, which is very disappointing, and reflects very poorly on his company. I was very happy with your NURAD video tutorial. It's so much more helpful than simply reading the manual.

Wonderful, much better than simply reading the manual ! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! You are welcome.
You might want to do a series for the EWI Akai Solo. I seem's to be getting popular.
Thank you! I've been trying to make my videos for as many EWIs as possible. When there is a specific issue, sometimes I'll address a specific EWI. All the Akai EWIs have very similar operations, and if someone chooses the Ewi Standard Fingerings, then they respond precisely the same regarding pitch. This fingering system can be used on any Electronic wind instrument that has the EWI standard fingering as an option. All the Akai and also the NuRAD. I hope this helps.
This is incredible. Thank you Curt!!
Thank you, Eddie! I hope you are doing well! I've been thinking of you lately. We should have a Zoom meeting sometime and have a conversation. I took a little time off after doing the manual....lol. my email is: curtsipe@me.com
So, is this a more feature rich eviner or what? I find the davidson site to be very obtuse.
It's a VST version of the 1970's Lyricon 2. It responds very much like the EVI-NER. It just has a different pallet of sounds and controls.
Incredibly useful. Berglund should send a link for this for anyone thinking of purchasing a NURAD. THANKS A MILLION !
You are welcome!
Very Nice and easy practice.
Thank you for the Work you do and great passion for EWIs! I am new here and purchased EWI 4000s a week ago. It should arrive in a week. I am very excited and have a lot of questions of cause. I guess my main concern is breathing/blowing. I read some forums where Newbees like Myself complained they would turn blue while blowing. I see the breathing is very different from, say, playing saxophone. Also I watched a video where someone demonstrates his mouthpiece modification. He uses mouthpiece similar to the saxophone MP and turns it into valve regulated. That way, by turning ligature knob he regulates the amount of air pressure. Anyway,. Just wandering where to start from in this respect. Thank you!)
Shoot me an email: curtsipe@me.com We can set up a Zoom meeting and have a conversation, and get you off to a great start.
Someday. Maybe. So sweet!
Rocking !!!!!!!
Juan, Thank you!
Can I switch the EWI to concert pitch? Ie C flute pitch?
The default setting of an EWI is normally convert pitch. You also have the ability to set it for any transposition. What EWI are you playing?
I grew up on 80/81. Thank YOU.
Thank you! Yep, me too. Made me a life long Dejohnette and Haden fan.
Ah, lemme just grab a NuRad real quick then. Ohh.................. too bad I really would have enjoyed that cheap alternative to the EWI...wait how much does the NuRad cost? Ohhhhhhhhh...... Yeah I'm sticking with my Akai for some longer.
Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and leaving a comment. I understand that NuRad's price point and waitlist might be a barrier for some players, and it's always important to find an instrument that fits your budget and needs. My intention was not to promote one instrument over the other but rather provide an honest comparison based on my personal experience. I appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy playing your Akai. Best regards.
@@ewi_den Yeah, I know you didn't but, there are people out there who, upon switching to a NuRad become a bit stuffy, to say the least. But yeah it's mostly the waitlist that bothers me, then the price...for that price I can buy more hardware. The akai is objectively inferior to the NuRad, but I don't know if the inferiority measures up to the waitlist and pricepoint of the NuRad for me. I think I'd rather just buy other instruments (like a guitar or something) instead. But who knows how long I really can resist its lure. I am interested in the NuRad, after all.
@@lofwyr5063 I recently had a conversation with Johan, he mentioned the hold-up is supply chain issues with some components they need, the Berglund team is just as frustrated as anyone else, having an in-demand product and no way to fulfill orders. He hoped they would be up and running full speed by the end of the summer as that was predicted by his suppliers; Berglund had made arrangements to enhance production right before Covid hit. UGH! In the video, I tried to stay clear of my reliability issues with Akai, as I didn’t know what to expect from the NuRAD. I started playing EWI full-time about 12 years ago when a jaw tremor ended my saxophone career. (I’m fine, the tremor may even be gone) In those 12 years, I went through (2) 4000’s and 4 (5000s) and only one (a 5000) is still working. In the summer of 2021, I reached out to Matt Traum, telling him I needed another EWI and a different plan, stating I would rather not purchase another Akai. Six months later, Matt found me a NuRAD FEB 2022. It’s been about a year and a half so far, and there are no issues at all. It is nice to have peace of mind. I play and teach every day, sometime all day, so I do use them heavily, but still, my keyboards and other devices have held up through the years. It’s my hope the the NuRAD remains reliable… time will tell. Take care!
What a joy, what an interpretation.❤️🎶🎼🎉👏
