Ridge Racer Mania - Gran Prix Mode
THIS IS JUST A FAN PROJECT, nothing releated with Bandai Namco.
Another update regarding this project. Now each individual car has its own stats (based on a standard stats multiplier where "1" means the default value).
In this way, thanks to the menu I developed, it is possible to keep track of the progress made.
In the menu that I developed, each GP includes 4 randomly chosen races to be carried out in the cleanest and quickest way possible, once finished you receive a cash prize with which it will be possible to purchase and upgrade the cars (up to grade 5).
You can also keep track of the races won with each individual car, and every 10 races won unlocks a new livery for that car.
By selecting a specific category you will only access circuits designed specifically for that speed class, so as to have different challenges for each class of vehicle.
Huge thanks to GKRacer for his work importing the models from RR series.
I repeat again, all the rights about the cars are owned by Namco Bandai.

While waiting for a hypothetical Ridge Racer 8.. TM's Canyon cars allow gameplay very similar to Ridge Racer (PSP,6 and 7). Moreover, with Open Planet (a mod of TrackMania 2) it is possible to use this class of vehicles in any environment and build bigger maps. Ridge Racer cars converted and edited for TM2 by GKRacer. (All rights about the RR cars belong to Bandai Namco).

I tried ro get this mod to work but no matter what I do I just can't get it to work. I read the instructions with how to do it with cheat engine but I'm not exactly sure what it is I'm supposed to be changing. Could you please tell me what it is I'm looking for in cheat engine? Thanks!
Hi, Cheat Engine only needs if you want to change some aspects of the game + some cheats in order to customize the game as you wish BUT you don't need it to play with the custom textures, that is and emulator feature. Anyway, I don't understand what your problem is.
@@assoluto76 Oh ok, I have the texture tracking and replace textures setting on and I am running the emulator in PSX HW the only other issue I have is that whenever I try to set my Anti-Aliasing to 16x the emulator crashes but other than that I don't understand why the textures do not show up. Should it still kind of work even if I don't have it at 16x? I should also mention I had also placed the ISO file in with the Rage Racer texture folder but even that doesn't do anything. Do I need to put the folder somewhere specific?

Yeah, I'm used to play at 4k resolution scale, widescreen patch and with some "pgxp geometry correction" options on. I didn't use any shader for this video btw.

This is super cool to see & something I wish I had access to 25 years ago lol. It's been a long time since I played this so feel free to correct my rusty knowledge. Two things that stood out to me were that some of the A.I. liveries seemed like spares that didn't appear in the G.P. mode. The bright red Gnade & the yellow Lizard Bayonet that appered in one of your other vids. Maybe they're region specific but they were new to me. Also, what car does the tachometer that appears when you drive the A.I. cars belong to? Is that a dev thing that you would normally never see or something? It looks like the Gnade tach but with different colours & a weird "M" symbol in the middle. Lastly I guess these mods confirm that the "Devil car" billboards with the 2CV silhouette were just the devs having a laugh & no such car exists in the game. Still, sterling work that made me smile!

So, the bright red Gnade, Yellow Bayonet and the tachometer as well are textures that I costumized, infact this mod just swaps textures only, not the cars (which are almost identical anyway), and if you want to try this mod you can easily modify those textures yourself.

How far does the 1st rival car start, is it like half a track ahead right from the start? I also wondered if slower cars overtake each other, of course i knew that there are 4 faster rival cars in every race, but what about other 7. I also wanted to compare and measure their exact speed. And sometimes i took a class 5 car into class 1 race and bumped into the slowest 11th car so that it overtakes the 10th car :DD

We can have an idea of the starting point using the music player, I'm pretty sure the first car starts near the first tight curve before the uphill that leads to the waterfall and the first tunnel, and no, without "help" the rival cars never overtake each other, only the 4 fastest cars but not between them.

Me too, many rival car liveries and colors are much better than player ones. I always wanted to drive the rival cars in general, especially the 3th grade ones.

@@assoluto76 Oh I think I made a mistake. You see in Rage Racer having collision with other cars or smashing the wall gives you a decent speed reduce and you are unable to acclerate for a while. I thought you have removed them in the video but no lol. Perhaps it could be a good idea.

Hi, thank you! I've never tried, for sure the rim texture goes in a separate texture, and I've never seemed to see particular rims among the opposing cars, I think they share the same one.

@@assoluto76 From a quick look, it appears that rival vehicles do not have wheel textures for when the vehicle is stopped. The same textures were used while stopped as while driving.

@@ForDo-gc1zy Thanks! No, you can't use epsxe. As written in the description you need Beetle Psx on Retroarch. Btw, unless you use Windows XP or vista I don't recomand epsxe, it's too old and it doesn't even work properly with new operative systems and hardware. I suggest you to use Duckstation as your main ps1 emulator, then get also RetroArch with Beetle Psx if you want to play this mod.

I was kind of skeptical about this because every time I try to do cheat engine on pcsx 1.7, the addresses never save! I sure love to learn how you did those P addresses in the way you did it.

@@assoluto76 I have the address for my Rom/Emulator to control the camera if you want it to showcase your mod! 2009E578 is a single byte address, 0 = Bumper Camera 1 = Rear View Camera 2 = Cinematic Camera (end of race camera) very useful for showing cars from all different angles. If the address doesn't work for you, let me know and i'll try and find a copy of your rom and find it!

Excuse Me I saved the car texture on the car selection screen in PPSSPP and tried to paint the Kamata Fialo of CLASS4, but even if I edited the saved car pattern png, it would be reflected on the selection screen, but in the race is not reflected, what should I do? I registered a car png in hashes in texture.ini, but it still wasn't reflected in the race.
Hi, cars in the menu have a different texture (higher quality), if you want to replace them in race you need the 256x256 texture, and you can dump it during a race, if you want better quality you can also replace the 256x texture with the 512x, just rename it. In your case, get the texture of the Fiera in game, then rename your custom texture with the same name of the ingame one and that should be it.

@@assoluto76 Yes, it will be reflected in any mode, it doesn't matter whether it's day, evening or night of the course. By the way, I first saved it in TIME ATTACK mode to edit the texture of KAMATA Fiaro in CLASS4.

If I remember correctly once you get the texture, in order to swap It you have to add a string in the txt file, but you also have to change the last digits of it's name into 0 when you define It inside the txt file, like "12345678" changed to "12340000" or something like that, check my txt file and check how many 0 I've added for each string, then do the same for your texture, don't remember now, I'm not at home.

4 models are actually available on ManiaPark, when GKRacer will release the other models there I will release mine that you can see in the video (and more) as well.

So that's how the game gave us rivals with higher top speed than they should have.
Values for player's car speed are completely different than rivals cars, rival cars are objects that only follow a path with variable speed set by namco, car models don't matter at all, they could let the slowest rival car of the game fly in the 6th GP just changing a single value.
Hello, this is absolutely terrific work, I've always wondered if this may be possible at some point. Is retroarch an emulator of some sort? I assume this is only possible via PC play?
Yes, retroarch is more like a platform where you can download and use many emulators. Retroarch works on many platforms, android included.

@@AstralStriderZ You're welcome! I'm working now on the part 2 of the project, cheats to change some elements. Using the cheating menu you will be able to select any grade of the cars, and even use a 2nd grade Gnade with 5th grade performance for example, in addition I added a cheat that on internet was only available for european version of the game, use any car with AT (exept Bulldog and Squaldon for some reason).

@@superpekka4686 You have to change the color on the car select screen, press select to change the car colors untill you find the custom liveries, only available for the first Esperanza Gr2 and first Bisonte Gr2.

Hi! Make sure to use the correct version of the game, only works with the UCES00422 version, basically the Europian version, also check on PPSSPP if you have the option "replace textures" enabled.
